Just HAVE to put in my 2 cents on the new Fates Warning album, it's
AWESOME!!!!!!!! I have been listening to it nonstop over 3 times now.
Well, I still don't think all the parts flow together, sounds more like
there's 12 songs instead of 1 long one. But I love it, especially part
    8.

I also have my gripes about finding it: I went to Zia music store and
it took me 5 minutes to finally locate APSoG. They only had 1 copy, now
they have zero. What's frustrating was that they used to have other FW
cd's but today the only thing by FW was the cd I purchased.

    that's all folks

and DONT FORGET to RELIEVE YOURSELF PRIOR TO LISTENING! you may find

i think its kind of to prevent you from letting yourself slip into the cd
too much after its over, it wakes you up and you can contemplate it on a
freshly awoken mind in a different world.

or maybe they were worried too many people would fall asleep by part nine :)

I was just curious, I purchased the Silent Man single and I was wondering 1. Why the song was never put on a CD. 2. Why it was written 3. Who wrote it.

I tried to buy the Fates album tonight but I wasn't able because the stores (Circuit City and Strawberries) didn't have it. Does anyone know of a major chain of music stores that might have it? Later, J

I just got it, I sat upstairs looking out the window and it is pretty cloudy right now. I just sat silently in that chair for 53 minutes or so. Anyways, Id heard some Fates before (I only have Parallels), but this has to be without a doubt their best stuff ever. In fact I would go so far as to say that this album ranks up there with I&W and my favorite Rush albums. This is quite possibly the most moving, most poetic, most well conceved song in a long, long, long, long time. Noone releases anything like this anymore, and noone ever has very often really. Id have to say this is a Masterpiece. I was upset when it ended because Ill never be able to hear it "the first time" again, and that is always a special feeling when you hear something like this for the first time. And if it werent for all of you ytsejammers, I probably wouldnt have ever even bought this or gotten into Fatez at all. Thank you.

    omigoshthisfookerrocks!

looks like the wait absolutely paid off....... my trials were nothing compared to some of the rest of youse finished the last undergrad class i'll ever be in, and strolled off to tower ~2:30.........and there it was, a bit high in price, but not ridiculously so......but then events conspired, so i couldn't start lisnin to it til about 8:30...........this album is simply ridiculously awesome, and, although it might be the "lack of sleep due to the exam i had this afternoon" speaking, a very draining (emotional) album.....

The thing i like about it best are the various intros and outros they do on almost every section.......they basically turned kevmo loose, and the result is some of the coolest sounds he's created since WDADU.......

wondering a bit why they chose not to name any of the sections.....i guess they don't plan on sending anything to radio stations.....although the way the lyrics break down, it's a story that doesn't break well into radio song sections.....this really is one long song, in terms of lyrics.....

section IV, V and VIII stand out after two listens......very heavy on the keyboards, they are, prolly shouldn't come as any surprise, eh?

10:40 pm, and all's well............except for those damn blues with their 2-0 lead..........at least the Avs are getting their collective arses whupped again...........

    go wings!

ok, so part 4 takes a while to kick in as far as those keybaords go.... but it's still cool......even the song divisions they've made aren't part 1 = slow part 2= fast part 3= midtempo........ it's all mixed in and it all works amazingly for me....... and i keep talking about this good stuff fates has made, because those st. louie bastards just scored again :(

Ok. Here's why they have the alarm clock at the end. According to Jim Matheos, this song is in realtime. The lyrics are the thoughts that go through some guys head in 53 minutes. He'd wondering what to do today. It's the beginning of the day.

Apparently he woke up an hour before his alarm went off, and just lay there listening to the rain and thinking and stuff.

Now, my only problem with this CD. What'd they do to Ray's voice on the first verse of track 12? Sounds like they slowed it down. I don't like it.

Other than that it's perfect. Why the hell hasn't everyone here bought it yet? Come on, support the boys. You have to buy it. Kevin plays on it and it lists Portnoy as an honorary Fates member. Major DT connections. Plus it's one bloody awesome CD. Not just awesome, BLOODY awesome. If you buy it and you don't like it, find a friend to sell it to. If you buy it and you do like it, find a friend and make him buy his own copy.

Come on, let's give these guys the sales they deserve. Fates! Fates! Fates!

gotta go. must hear fates. must be warned.

Yes it is true as the subject line states I can make you a copy of these discs on CD. If you missed out on >Subconscious, this is your chance to at least get a CD copy of it. It >won't be the original, numbered, valuable collectible, but it will be the >same music on CD and that sure beats cassettes! :) For the record, as the >original creator of Subconscious, I give my blessing for this project to >go forward, and he might do Acoustic Dreams later; who knows! > >MTFBWY! So I picked up one of the three copies of A Pleasant Shade of Gray on a particularly gray afternoon. If this Matheos fucker thinks gray is pleasant, he oughta move his gray lovin' ass to Seattle and see how it feels ALL THE GODDAMN TIME.

I've never heard any Fates before, apart from what they played while opening for DT on the Awake tour. I admired the musicianship, but the music never "struck" me, know what I mean? I bought this chiefly because Kevin was on it and it promised to be at least intersting.

WOW! This song has all the stuff I like about music in it. Good musicianship, nice mellow parts that aren't boring, strong vocals, some very nimble drumming, and tasteful bass work. Do the lyrics remind any of you of T.S. Eliot's "Love song of J. Alfred Prufrock"? AND, to top it all off, Portnoy's an honorary member of Fates. Cool shit. I went back to Tower a bit later and saw that the other two copies that they had were sold. Nice to see...

I don't care how fucking long the album is. I just want the new material. It could only be Metropolis Pt.II and that would be enough for me. That song is reportedly 30 mins. plus. Oh yeah baby,I want as much music as we can possibly get out of DT but anything at this point would be FUCKING GREAT!!!!!!!!! All you guys in Europe are extremely lucky to see the fab five. By the way, anyone know of DT ever playing in Dallas? I am just wondering if I could count on them coming on the next tour?

is a guy named Jay Lane. He's on the Sausage CD, one of Claypool's side projects. Les has said in and interview that I read that Jay is his favorite drummer, ever. However, he wasn't nearly as impressive on the Sausage CD as Herb is on any given Primus release. Maybe he'll play differently in the context of Primus. I mean....David Gilmour's solo albums are aural misery, but his work with Floyd is phenomenal. Hopefully the same thing will happen.

Hmm....2 posts....I think I'll go break something now.

Rip and I agree about something! It's a gosh darned miracle. :)

Lot's of this has already been said, but Terry Brown makes Zonder sound soooo awesome. Kevin Moore and Joey Vera give this album a more spacious and intricate feeling than any FW album to date. I predict that only a phenomenal DT release will knock this from my #1 spot for '97. Recommendation: buy it now!

Sammy played last night to a completely packed club and the show was incredible! He played several cuts off of his new record, as well as a ton of his favorite old solo songs and probably at least 5 or 6 VH tunes. The set will be different tonight I am told, but Wednesday he played (let me see if I can remember) Cabo Wabo, Dreams, Finish What Ya Started....I know there's more, I just can't remember what they were.

Although the crowd hadn't heard his new record before Wednesday (except for the ones he played for the people in Cabo last Oct.) they went absolutely nuts when they heard the new songs!
