I used to listen to Prince when I was younger. I don't anymore, but let
me tell you something. He is incredibly talented musically and vocally,
but he's one weird motherfucker. I love his work, especially on albums
where he played everything, I wonder which albums those are. I don't own
any of his records or anything anymore, but hell, he's cool.

Nope, his birthday was April 20. Mark your calendars, btw... James'
birthday is coming up too, May 5th :-) The others can be found on
the "Ytsejam Birthday Calendar" on my homepage, except for Derek's.
Does anyone know when his birthday is ? There are 113 Ytsejam-bdays
on my calendar right now, with an average age of 24 ! If you're not
yet on it, go to my page and submit your birthday. There is a form
at the bottom of the calendar :

Great idea ! I think I get a private email at least once a week,
from people asking me how to unsub from the Ytsejam. Here's what
I got earlier today :

Another prog-chicken :
There were these five chickens. They were the most popular prog
chickens in the 80's. Then, one day, the singing chicken wanted
complete control. Instead, the others looked for a new chicken.
They made some pretty great albums, their best one being about
a chick on a bridge. Currently, their fans are collecting money
so they can fly to the US for a tour. Last week, they released
another brilliant album, called "This Strange Chicken". Too bad
it's not yet available in the US :-/
I've listened to it *19* times in the last four days. Ok, maybe
I *am* "Obsessive-Compulsive". :->

Yeah, there are places like Circuit City which sell the cds for less
than $18 but on a general basis they don't get stuff like Fates on the
first day, if ever.
If I had more patience I might could snag the CDs for cheaper. Out of
the five stores that I usually shop, the average price for a new,
non-sale CD is like $15.99, sometimes taking it up to 16.99. This year,
however, I've noticed a trend of 17.99 CDs(Fates, Dokken, Nuno). That
seems awfully high to me too but that is about the only price for stuff
like Fates if I want to get it within a month of release.
These are the prices down here(are they really that bad?):
Blockbuster price for new, nonsale- 15.99-17.99
The Compact Disc Store - hmm I think it's generally not over
15.99..sometimes 12 or 13.99.
Paradise Records- same as above - these are the two stores I go to when
they have the stuff.
Circuit City - rules when they get the stuff.
Musicland - usually 15.99 - 16.99
These prices again for stuff like FW with no push from record companies
or anything. And of the above only Musicland and Blockbuster 3 had FW.
I could either wait or get it today. The oppurtunity cost
was..uhh..nevermind..no economics..

Hello fellow jammers,
I was thinking recently about how bizarrely interconnected events in our lives
tend to be. Bear with me for a minute, here.. We are a bunch of
pseudo-random people, spread across the US and across the world. However,
those of us who read and participate in the jam on a daily basis are involved
in an ongoing discourse which can affect us, separately, in similar ways.
For example, recently someone mentioned the awesome version of TTT on the Bahr
disc "Antiquities". As I was reading that digest, I was sitting here at work
with headphones on and Antiquities in my disc player, listening to the track
right after TTT. I hadn't listened to the disc in at least 3 months before
that. Coincidence? maybe...
But I'm thinking that maybe there are a lot of things which affect us, overtly
or subconsciously (another Bahr plug!), in parallel. What made someone else
and myself go dig out Antiquities at nearly the same time? Was it increased
jam presence by Mike Bahr, the recent fix shows causing those of us deprived
jammers to seek live material?
How many of you have been purchasing or digging out your Fates Warning discs
lately? I've seen quite a few FW posts not related to the new disc! This has
an obvious source, the new release, but I think you get my point: people in
this community receive a number of common stimuli from the discourse on this
list, and, even as strangers, we end up acting similarly. I think it's kind
of cool.
Anyone notice that Knights of the Round is currently sold out of Symphony X
discs? With the number of Symphony X recommendations lately on the jam, again
I wonder if the increased sales are partially caused by increased mention in
this forum, and the common (but separate) actions of like-minded jammers.
In conclusion, I'd like to remind you all that you are hopelessly influenced
by the events in your life, including the material in the jam, whether you
realize it or not. Now go buy the new Fatez disc! =)
cheers,
-Neil.

I was one of those who attended the good doctor's and Dream Evil's world-wide Internet premiere (a #ytsejam exclusive!!!) of APSoG. Awesome. Hearing these two guys talk was a treat too:).
Anway, I picked up APSoG and Perfect Symmetry today. Typically, I had to wait 10 minutes while the store clerk ("Fates who?") went running around the store trying to track down the 3 copies that the computer said they had:). Anyway, I haven't had a chance to check out PS yet. About APSoG, well, this song reminded me why I think long songs (10 min. or above) are so special. They're all journeys of some kind, some longer than others, each with their own special twists and turns (some of them unexpected!!!). They give you enough time to settle in with the song, to really get into the lyrical or musical content, keep an eye (or an ear, rather) out for repeated themes, relish the instrumental interludes, enjoy the moments of pure sick mania that pop up every now and then, etc. *sigh* LONG SONGS RULE!!!!!!!!! Anyway, APSoG has got ALL that shit and more. It's a LONG journey (53 min. 48 seconds according to my CD player) so be DAMN sure to bring along some gas money and a spare tire. But, like all of these trips, it leaves me with a feeling of great satisfaction and completeness, you know, cuz it seems like FW left no stone unturned on this journey.
Anyway, I enjoyed it. There's just one thing I don't get, though. What's with the fucking alarm clock?:)

Yup. Hasting's only ordered one copy (!?!?) and same with Musicland. Hasting's copy was gone when I got there (Thanks alot, w00t!) so I had to cough up the $17.00 for it at musicland. I shoulda just ordered it on import. :P Anyway, it's defferent, but in a good way. I still haven't had a chance to have a good solid listen yet, so I'll leave out the dramatics...
