I wish this was a joke, but I know it's not. I can't decide which is
funnier: the fact that all Bas's posturing about his "opera training" has
convinced some people that he is good, or the fact that he believes he is
    good himself.

I hope no one is actually considering this.

Are there any people besides myself who are SICK and TIRED of the bullshit
music business, and the state of music right now?? I'm a musician myself
who can't help but get loud that today's impressionable youth are stuck
hearing crap like Marilyn Manson and Oasis and bullshit dance music. And
the scary thing is...they like this Mtv spoon-fed garbage.
The boys of DT, Queensryche, Fates, Vai, Satch, etc, etc..we know who they
are, are holding together a thinly bonded veil of what's left of the
greatest music this Earth has known. What are we gonna do???
Being in a band myself, we choose not to "sell out" to the local band crowd
and play what everyone else and their band is playing. If I wanted to hear
The Nixons, I'll turn on the damn radio!! Don't give in people. Up the
    Irons.
We need to do something about this. Dream Theater rules, and now that I'm
totally pissed off, I guess I'll go throw in some Tool and wonder...where
the hell did all the guitar players go??

Dear mister Kevin Madden.....What gives you the right to complain about the
    music Warrior Soul play??
If someone like them, don=B4t you want them to be able to do it in harmony
    themselves...???
Yes, I am a Warrior Soulfan myself, and I listen to all kinds of music, but
when I hear someone say that they don=B4t like what other people might like,
I get a little angry. Noone forces you to listen to th bands you=
     criticize....

Has anyone heard the new Fates Warning CD???
I was lucky to get a hold of two RA files from the new CD....Seems to be a
    great album.
As of Savatage....Their new CD enters the shops this summer....
Seems to be a great one too.....

The people saying that Queensryche is NOT a progband, I disagree with. Many
of the Queensryche songs can and will always be classified as prog to
me.....Now, I don=B4t want to criticize anyone who think what they think, bu=
    t
    to me Queensryche ARE prog.....

The new DT album seems to be a good one too....I heard two songs from that
    one....Good work from DT......

Thanx...and jam on dudes and dudettes......

Okay, to the person complaining about Warrior Soul- its a part of my
signature for my homepage. I'm not forcing anyone to listen to it- if you
hate it, fine, if you love it, great! I don't just listen to prog. The music
I listen to includes stuff all over the place- Dream Theater, Carcass, Fiona
Apple, Flotsam And Jetsam, Garbage, Imperial Drag, Lillian Axe, Nixons,
Overkill, Rage Against The Machine, Savatage, Trouble, Therapy, 311,
Paradise Lost, Poe, Ramones, Mindfunk, Enertia, Arcade, Anthrax, etc. I try
to listen to as much shit as I can and keep an open-mind. I don't think
Warrior Soul sounds anything like LA Guns, personally. LA Guns lyrics were
mindless, Warrior Soul has something to say. Basically, I don't feel like
arguing, if I wanted to do that, I'd go in a chatroom and call someone an
    asshole.

Does anyone have any info on the Queensryche bootleg Silent Lucidity- Mtv
Unplugged/Live '90. Just wondering a track listing and any other info- sound
    quality, etc.

Especially, "4 billion years between our ears, still hatred brings as many

unrelated topic we will not discuss. Also, anytime in the future someone

Actually, Surrounded (the verses) is in 9/8, not 5/4. The only
difference is that one eighth note would have to be removed from 5/4
    time.

What's wrong with liking it? It makes you sound as closed-minded as you make them out to be.

    Here's my theory:

We all live in a world where everyone wants to be accepted. When a person starts looking into music they do what most other people do anymore: Turn on MTV. I did this back in 1990 and started getting into bands like Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and Metallica. I went on for awhile and when I thought that MTV had given me all they could give, I looked to my friends to see what other stuff they liked. Basically, they liked everything MTV showed, so we were all quite happy with what we listened to. (At least I was untill I started to grow bored of it). As I began looking for newer music, I'd make the stupid mistake of letting my friends help pass judgement over it. When you work with one person rather than a group, different answers come out of the same people.

In order to uphold a certain reputation, many groups tend to disparrage talented musicians. I don't know why, it's always seemed to be like that. Anyway, the fear of acceptance tugged at me and I abandoned the group.

Eventually, my friends and I parted and I began looking at music alone without being under any sort of peer pressure. I eventually greatly expanded my horizons to listen to I'd say 5000% of what I'd limited myself to with my friends. When I next see them all, I show them all the new stuff I've picked up, and even those that used to cringe and gawk over the different styles even now accept them and even welcome them.

It's not that I was a sheep (well, maybe I was), but I think most of us are. Acceptance is important to everyone at that stage in their lives and most people will do what is necessary to obtain it. Seing as how MTV was the pinnacle of musical knowledge (and still seems to be for all I know), people based their musical foundation on MTV and feared to tread outside of it. I still see the same thing happenening with all of my friends who graduated from high school a couple years after me.

It's not necessarily that kids only like what MTV plays, but really that they aren't exposed to all of the different types of music that's out there. MTV is a very poor musical media, IMO, but it's not fair (I don't think) to blame the kids for liking what is being shown. It's not like everyone can afford to go out and buy 50 CDs one day when what they like is being played on the radio.

Long post, but that summarizes the situation, I think. (Critique?)

well, i picked up Iced Earth's first self titled debut tonite.. finally found this sucker, 8 bucks used.. its nice to have in the collection but was very different.. they're far from what they were even on night of the storm rider. i'd say the main letdown is the emotionless vocals.. just putrid.. the songwriting is pretty good, a few instrumental tracks, one all acoustic, very nice. guitarrists were definately still working on their chops, but i think i'll get into it more as i hear it more. also noticed they thanked "savatage" in the liner notes.. they thanked DT in Burnt Offerings's.. wonder why we never see these guys opening up for either of them :(

yeah, copyright laws were changed a bit and a huge bust in germany and italian bootlegging was made.. virtually all the boot companies there have gone down. but in all honesty, you probably never would have gotten your stuff from tunnel records anyways, they're terrible. if you're lucky you might get a refund :)

    >Wow. I've never had that problem w/ an owner. My theory is that if they don't sign a contract, they are not someone that I want to deal with. I look at it as a business transaction. Think what they can do w/o a contract: they can cancel you at the last minute, shorten your set, etc. I like to have contracts even when it's a freebie. It's insurance that no one will pull any funny business. Plus, it's in the owner's best interest to have you sign a contract because it committs you to the performance. You can't just not show up because the pyschic hotline says that your Vergo is in limbo or anything like that.

Fuck!!! The one time it would come in handy to live in New Jersey.

I've had them before, but on the whole I don't, mostly because the dives that I've played didn't have one for me. But now I have little tiny Rolands that I'll use.

I know this is my thousandth post since the last jam but I thought I should just inform that Alta Myra has 2 items of interest for sale. Firstly, they have the Winter Rose CD for 32 dollars with James LaBrie and secondly, the new Queensryche Sign Of The Times single with Silent Lucidity and The Lady Wore Black (From MTV unplugged) and Chasing Blue Skies (from the Jap. edition of HITNF)
