ANOTHER BORING RUSH CONCERT
PNC Bank ARTS Center 6/19/97
HOMDEL, NJ -No other band is quite as boring as Rush.
What a boring concert: nearly three hours of just Rush with no opening = band to screw things up. There were no cusicians croaking from an = overdose before the show, no riots in the parking lot, no lead singers = screaming profanities at the audience to show how much they love 'em.
To make it in today's scene, that's a must. About the best lead = vocalist/bassist/keyboardist Geddy Lee could do was announce to the = crowd, "We've got a lot of DAMN songs to do for you tonight...about 400 = of them if you can stand it." Damn is NOT a four-letter word.
Where's the love in that?
Lead guitarist Alex Lifeson is no better. He's boring, too. Why does he = smile so much? He makes playing guitar look way too easy.
Guitarists have to have that brooding, tortured look in order to be good = guitarists. Maybe Alex smiles so much because he sounds so good. = SHHHHHH! You're supposed to keep that a secret. If you don't mope around = the stage and have a crappy guitar sound, you simply won't be = interesting to the audience.
Then we have drummer and lyricist Neil Peart. This guy is the epitome of = boring. I mean, if GOD had stopped by and sat in on drums, it would have = been a toss-up as to who was better. But that doesn't make for an = interesting show by modern standards. See, Peart hasn't learned what all = the guys half his age already know: just sit back there and go BOOM, = BASH. That's all! Everyone knows that the drummer is going to have the = sexiest girlfriend and that all the "really" interesting stuff is going = to happen in the tabloids. You don't want to much that up by performing = too well on stage. Peart is all stage presence and zero scandal.
And of course, Rush songs in general are unbelievably boring. So boring, = in fact, that the audience seemed to know the lyrics to all 400 songs = performed and proceeded to sing along with every one of them. Did Rush = really perform about 400 songs? I wouldn't know-I was too bored to = notice after the first three because that's usually the point when = someone gets killed in the mosh pit. No one goes to a concert to = actually listen to the music anymore. Wha's the matter with these guys?
They must really be the "dinosaur" band that the little to Godzilla on = stage was trying to warn us about all night long.=20
And there isn't a more boring venue at which to see a bank than the PNC = Bank Arts Arena. All those seats and not a bad one in the house. What's = so fun about that?
-Jim "Citronella"
-I thought this was pretty funny.=20

Hey Jammerz -
Eric LaRue touched upon this subject in the previous Ytse digest. I would like to expand on it... Queensryche kicked major booty last night in Great Woods, Mass. And, for anyone accusing Geoff of losing the edge on his voice, yes, they played "Take Hold", and yes, HE HIT THE NOTE!!! Unbelievable! The place went nuts... I think we all knew we'd just witnessed something special. Incidentally, here is the complete set list, in order. If you don't wanna know, skip over it...
Intro The Voice Inside Empire Jet City Woman You Spreading the Disease The Mission I Am I Damaged Reach Bridge Another Rainy Night Take Hold Of the Flame (INCLUDING "THE NOTE" :-D ) The Lady Wore Black Silent Lucidity Della Brown I Remember Now Anarchy-X Revolution Calling Breaking the Silence Eyes Of a Stranger / Anarchy-X-Tra
Encores: Sign Of the Times Some People Fly
The entire band was dead-on perfect last night. Earlier this week, I was able to catch QR in Darien Lake, NY. For that show, they replaced "Bridge" with "The Killing Words", and they didn't play "Take Hold", but they added "I Don't Believe In Love" after "Breaking the Silence". All in all, it's been a great week. Believe it, folks, Queensryche STILL rules...
Laterz! Matt T.

Hey All ....
Got the good word today, the new CD is done. :) Here are the vitals straight from the source (since he said to pass em to the world and beyond :):
Dream Theater - "Falling Into Infinity" Produced by Kevin Shirley Release date - Tuesday, September 23rd 1997
CD track listing: 1. New Millennium (8:20) 2. You Not Me (4:58) 3. Peruvian Skies (6:43) 4. Hollow Years (5:53) 5. Burning My Soul (5:29) 6. Hell's Kitchen (4:16) (Instrumental - made up of old middle of "Burning....") 7. Lines In The Sand (12:05) (featuring guest vocals by Doug Pinnick of King's X) 8. Take Away My Pain (6:03) 9. Just Let Me Breathe (5:28) 10. Anna Lee (5:51) 11. Trial Of Tears (13:07) -----final CD running time: (78:18)
Unfortunately - due to manufacturing restrictions, it is possible (but not confirmed) that the cassette version may be shorter. (as was the case with "Awake")
The Japanese release will most likely have a bonus CD containing 1 or 2 extra songs. (the demos will be used for extra tracks...nothing else was recorded during the album's sessions....)
The 1st single to go to American Rock radio will likely be "Burning My Soul". It will probably be serviced approximately 2 weeks prior to the album's release (figure the 2nd week in September)...so start calling your local station!
Cover artwork was done by the legendary Storm Thorgerson who has done all of the classic Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin covers.
We are scheduled to play 3 or 4 Headlining shows in South America in the middle of September, and then if all goes as planned...we'll begin the world tour starting in America sometime in October...

Just wondering if anyone has ever heard of this Canadian trio. They are definitely progressive and have a lot of Rush in their sound. The name of the CD is Face Card. Here's a question: I'm going to check out some Savatage. Could someone please give me a suggestion or two on what CD to buy first. I just bought the new Megadeth CD, and I was pleasantly surprised. It sounds kinda progressive to me. I've been away for a while so I had to write. ????Where's Kevin Moore, and what ever happened to Chromakey????

Well...I saw Queensryche at Great Woods last night. WOW!! They f*ckin' rock! I mean, I 've seen them before, but they just kick my ass every time I see them. Their opening band was pretty decent too. I liked 'em. I heard a bunch of people booing and shit, but I liked 'em. Their music was pretty heavy, and the singer (anybody there, feel free to disagree) reminded me of the singer for Collective Soul. I don't know. I liked them. Ryche though! WOW! And the gorgeous female in front of me! WOAH!! I sat directly behind the light guy. (The female was in that area). The show was awesome. Loved the song selection except for Silent Lucidity only because I'm tired of the tune. Geoff...he's my hero. He hit everything. There were a few that he didn't do, but I could tell that he could've if he wanted to because everything around it (high and low range) were beautiful. I just can't say enough. I looked for some jammer shirts, but saw none. Oh well..alright...
Take Care
Rick

i have mixed feelings about this.. doesnt anyone else??..i mean cool.another song..but withougt that middle part BMS will sound just like a heavy song (of course thats me imagining the Fix shows version without that part dunno if theres been changes) also ive noticed some songs shortened a bit...but i guess thats production and stuff...anyay.. wow!! :)

hi all, long time, no post...i havent read any posts from the past month or so, so if the following news isnt news at all, then...oh well!!! :) this is a copy of the exact letter mike sent out (minus a few personal details!!!) so you can trust its as reliable as they come. As an aside, we were in new york last weekend with mike and he played us some of the finished songs. WOW. I am no music critic, but i thought that this was some of their best stuff yet. from what i can tell of your tastes (from reading posts for the past few years) the fans should be psyched! Its not too hard (metal-ly) but it IS hard and technical (typical DT style). Not being much of a hard rock fan, but a HUGE DT fan (for obvious reasons) even i loved all of the songs.
hope this satisfies your need for new info and ties you over until late-september! oh, by the way, the following "letter" ends abruptly b/c i cut off the end of it as it was irrelevant to this post.
later, sam :)
