    Hey Ytsejam!

I just read today that John Petruchi will be having a guitar clinic at
Thourougbred music in Tampa, Florida on August 18. Even though I am not a
guitarist but a bassist, I will be attending along with my other musician
friends. If anyone on the list is going to be there, wear your Ytsejam
T-shirt and I'll see you there. This is the closest so far to anything of
Dream Theater hitting Floridian soil that I have known of, at least until
the new album! :) Let me know if anyone will be attending.

No fair! Skadz owns the list. He cheated! And that other guy must be in ack mode! ;-)

I have yet another question. When I read my post it said that it was in MIME format. Now usually I can't read MIME posts. But I could read my post in the jam. Did anyone have problems reading mine(not MIME :)? Email min--I mean me.

Now I just have to buy a DAT recorder for the tour(besides getting the US & JAP CD)! :) John McCabe caber1@concentric.net

    Hmmmmmm.

Haven't post in a long time. There are two things that I've been wondering about:

    1) Does Doug Pinnick sing lead vocals on LITS or just the backing vocals that JP does live ("Swept away with the tide. Through the holes in my head. Crown of thorns in my side. Drawing lines...")?

    -and-

    2) Are there any cool samples in any of the songs?

Mike Portnoy if your reading this and feel like e-mailing me the answers, it'll be our little secret. I promise :).

    Later everybody, Jon Dery

Eckie, im glad you got the chance to play through some mesa boogie!!!! they truly are the manufacturers of tone itself!!!! after hearing DT the first few thousand times, i had to find out what JP was playing through.. his live rig is quite extensive but the heart of it is the triaxis/simul class 2:90/ 4 x 12 recti cab. fortunately, i was blessed with the opportunity to purchase these models along with a lexicon processor (mpx-1). i dont think you could the variety or variation of tones from this one preamp if you had a studio full of equipment!!!! but i guess thats why JP uses it.

now that the final word is out on the new cd, im finding it hard to sit down! its too cool to know its done and complete!

All in all, it's been a > great week. Believe it, folks, Queensryche STILL rules...

Yeah, but apparently they just can't rule everywhere they go. The more reviews of the QR shows I read the more pissed-off I get. I saw them about 2 weeks ago at the Nissan Pavilion in Bristow, VA. I couldn't find anything wrong with the show <besides Geoff's obvious struggling> but I couldn't find anything RIGHT with it either. The Voice Inside is a poor choice for an opener, and Empire sounded belabored. It was cool to hear Another Rainy Night, but we had a shorter setlist than many spots on the tour, and I still contend that the prime culprit of this is not Geoff's age <which he can't help> but his smoking <which he can>. I would've loved to hear The Killing Words rather than Bridge <which I hate>. Plus, we didn't hear Breaking the Silence OR I Don't Believe in Love. I liked Some People Fly, though.

And what's with Wilton and DeGarmo switching sides?!?!? :)

    Yes! Sounds good to me.

Hell's Kitchen (4:16) (Instrumental - made up of old middle of > > "Burning....") > > i have mixed feelings about this.. doesnt anyone else??..i mean > cool.another song..but withougt that middle part BMS will sound just > like a heavy song (of course thats me imagining the Fix shows version > without that part dunno if theres been changes) also ive noticed some > songs shortened a bit...but i guess thats production and stuff...anyay..

I agree with you here. I think this is a mistake. I think that if they're gonna be prog that they should just be prog. Sure. Edit the prog out of the single, but if Joe Trendy likes the song enough to buy the CD then he should have to listen to the prog when he takes it home. And if Joe Trendy likes it, great. Of course, this is what they did with Take The Time, right?

    > > The Japanese release will most likely have a bonus CD containing 1 or 2 extra > > songs. I think this has been covered here, but I believe that the reason the Japanese releases have bonus tracks is that the exchange rates make it cheaper for Japanese kids to get the imported American release, so bonus tracks are included as an incentive to buy the domestic <Japanese> release.

Hello all. This is Richie Rivera. I unsubbed from the list a while back because I just didn't have the time to read all the jams w/ work and stuff. I'm still haven't resubbed, but I came across this bit of info in the Metal Edge folder and thought you all might like it. This may have been posted here before, so I apologize for the repeat if that's the case. I'll be resubbing at the end of this month when I'm back in VT (28th). Until then.......

I spent a lot more time with Dream Theater than I anticipated last night, but every second was more than worth it... For starters, Mike sets me up in a room with a DAT of eight songs from the album (NO, I didn't tape it!) and I'm like, "OK, I'll skip around, listen to some of each, and come out and find you when I'm done..." Heh heh... I started listening, and listened to the whole damn DAT, one hour of new Dream Theater! The album is going to be 11 songs, 79 minutes (the longest you can make a CD), but three were still being finished as I sat there (John had a guitar part to finish, and James had a few vocal parts to wrap up, which he finished before I left)... The stuff is killer, just as heavy and progressive as we've come to expect from DT, but a lot more accessible, Kevin Shirley did a great job getting them to come out of their shells on this album... Unlike the last album, where there were times I felt like I was watching the final medal round of the musical Olympics, this album is deep, hard, and techically thrilling, but it goes down really easy... The album, Falling Into Infinity, is being released September 23, with a tour to commence in early October... Will the album be a hit? Well, it's got all the trappings of one, but who the hell knows in today's market. I think it's their best yet, though, and the potential is definitely there...

Anyone notice the absence of Where Are You Now, Speak to Me, and Raise the Knife from the final tracklisting of FII? I think there might have even been one or two more deleted. I guess that makes Precious Things (which has RTK) and the forthcoming Mosaic (which has WAYN) that much more of collectibles. :)

ernie@pananet.com had a brilliant idea in the last Jam, but what if we use this idea to make a YTSEJAM song. We can make a .wav .mp3 .iff thread where different jammers contribute with a riff, or come up with changes on existing riffs. Voila, we've now got a YTSEJAM. I'm sure there are some of you jammers who would like to join this thread .. I know there's a mac program for this task, but as far as i know it's mac only.

Suddenly we've got a 20+ min prog song with lots of time sig changes !!!!!!!!!
