            Oh, I'm feeling sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo bad.

If anyone has sent me some e-mail to rbrito@ime.usp.br,
please, please, please, send it again (I was trading a lot of things).

The operating system of the network was being upgraded and there
were some bugs in the new release (blame those people at Sun Microsystems)
and the homes were lost (if you want to know the details, we use a mail
system called qmail that stores, by default the e-mails on $HOME/Mailbox,
where $HOME is the home directory of the person) the last backup was done
    on 7/24.

So, if you sent any mail for me after this day (7/24), please,
resend it. I'm almost sure that people has sent me e-mail about Opeth,
but I could not answer due to this problem.

Thank you very much for your attention and sorry for the waste of
    bandwidth.

            []s, Roger... :-(

Just a thought ... what if after every message from this george f. dude , everyone on this list posts a message to george.farber@juno.com. Just a simple message, something like 'you suck' or something. It wouldn't take much of your time, and I would love to see him cope with 1000+ messages waiting in his inbox :) . (btw, this is not mailbombimg, 'coz it isn't done by only one individual :) ).

Anyway, if you're interested in tape trades, you should check out my homepage : http://www.fortunecity.com/tinpan/floyd/33/index.html Just click on 'Tape Trades' , have a look, and if you're interested, drop me a line at : dreamingh@hotmail.com . Oh yeah ... any of you lucky owners of the new DT single (promo copy or whatever) interested in a little trade ? ;) I just got Lethal's 'Poison Seed' ... cool progressive power metal , these guys certainly have potential ... anyone know anything of other releases from these dudes ? DDTT (a serious one, in these dog years ;) ) : Both WDADU's and I&W's title originated from KevMo songs, but Awake didn't (TSM is JP's, right ) ... I guess that's why KevMo left ...

It's interesting that my girlfriend says that she likes the stuff I hear (I sincerely *DOUBT* it :-) ), and I driving her home and playing a tape containing the rehearsal show for Donnington'95 from the bootleg "Loud but Secret" (London, Astoria 2, the one with "Devil's Dance") and when "Fade to Black" started playing she asked me: "What's this group? Very interesting, much more interesting than that Metallica that you like..."

Why do we seem to love to hear our preferred songs on the radio instead hearing it from our CD player? The CD player has better sound quality... Or do we feel amazed to know that lots of people are hearing to *that particular song* at the same time we are? :-)

Here's what I would recommend. Now, keep in mind that I only have a dozen of his albums, about 20% of what he's released, so this is all IMHO.

Hot Rats has always been my favorite. Almost every song on it is killer. It's mostly instrumental and everyone on it kicks ass.

Apostrophe and Overnite Sensation are tied for second in my book. A little more humor than Hot Rats, some of it is not so serious but still has a lot of great playing.

Joe's Garage is a great concept album. Even more silliness but brilliant at the same time (witness "Why Does It Hurt When I Pee?", "Keep It Greasy"...). The concept is a society where music is illegal, quite interesting. "A Little Green Rosetta" always gets a good laugh out of me ("Now you see, some places in the third world it might be difficult to dance to this because the kerosene player is not a very efficient device..."). But like I said, amidst all this humor is some incredible playing - Zappa truly is a great player (& composer).

Shut Up 'n Play Yer Guitar is also very good, but it's probably not the best to start with since it's a collection of live guitar solos (and it's a triple CD). Actually, to say that they're guitar solos is misleading because almost every track is like a composition. Some truly amazing playing, it covers a lot of aspects of Zappa's style. Plus, it features a young Steve Vai (but he only plays rhythmn guitar).

I also like Waka/Jawaka quite a bit, it's got 2 long instrumentals but they do get a bit cheesy at times (some stuff sounds like it's from the Loveboat theme), that might turn you off. Still, some very finely crafted stuff, very progressive actually.

The only stuff I think you should avoid would be Lumpy Gravy and Fillmore East '71, which are both a bit too silly for me. But that's just me. Hope this helps you, J-P (who is now going back into lurker mode :)

First off, I must say that the Jones Beach Theater is the best concert venue I've ever been to. It definitely took the sting off the $50 ticketprice.

I thought the show was awesome. I'm not fond of the new album, but the songs they chose were pretty cool. The highlight of the show for me was "Take Hold of the Flame". With all the crap regarding Geoff's voice, I didn't think that they would even play that song.

PS - I saw a lot of people with DT shirts, but couldn't tell which ones were frmo the Jam... I was the t tall Chinese dude wearing the New York Rangers jersey.

How is it different to play a Nirvana intro than an entire song?

'Cuz posers can't help but fuck it up within three repeats of the same riff. :) You think I'm kidding, eh? There was this poor boy plugged into a Crate practice amp with an Epiphone Les Paul tryin' to play some Nirvana riff, 'n he couldn't get it right at all. I've heard the song once or twice 'n even _I_ knew he was fuckin' up. He didn't even know the thanged ding was out of tune! Ugh...I figure, if I'm gonna play something at Guitar Center, I'm going to pick a guitar that sings, a pre-amp and an amp that has balls 'n chunk! You know, the stuff you can't afford!!! BUt a wanna-be Les Paul into a small fifty (?) watt solid state amp?

But it's always a KICK ASS suprise when you walk into a guitar store just down the road a couple miles becomes a MESA BOOGIE DEALER!!!! Woo hoo! Vince 'n I dropped into the store, and the first thing we see (the ONLY thing, actually) is a rack on top of a Boogie cabinet with a Korg rack mount tuner, a MB Tri-Axis, an Alesis processor, and a Simul-Class 2:90.

Vince: OH MY GOD! Me: HOLY SHIT! Sales person: Ya wanna try it out? Vince and Me: YES!!!

After wading out of our own puddles of drool, Vince plugged a Mustaine V into the thing and cranked tha fucker up a little. I spent my time lookin' at all the neato Boogie equip they had JUST gotten in stock.

Suffice it to say, in one day I've converted from a solid state addict to a firm believer in the tube god, Valvus. That Tri Axis is friggin' amazing! They also had a Rocktron Chameleon, used, selling for $500, but alas I have no such pocketbook large enough to cover that. Looks like I'll be saving money for a Voodoo Valve instead...'cuz that Chameleon's gonna be gone by the time I have a job 'n saved up $500. *sigh*

Then again, mebbe I'll get lucky 'n win the lottery tonight....

~Eckie enjoys living within 5 miles of a Guitar Center AND a Mesa Boogie dealer!

P.S.- WOO! MESSSSSSSSSSSSA BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOGIE *kicks ass*!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, I've been meaning to talk about a band that somebody here brought up once, called "Heads and Tales". Don't remember where they're from, but their names seem to be Scandinavian - Norwegian?, Danish?, I dunno, I'm just a dumb 'Murican. They have a web site (sorry, /me is unprepared again), and I went there, listened to some samples, and ordered their CD "Eternity becomes a lie" (jeez, does that borrow from DT, or what?), which arrived in a few weeks. This disc kikz nadz, I mean rokz ass, uh, you know what I mean. It's very heavy prog metal, guitar-oriented, with TONS of double-bass drummin' and frequent time changes similar to that certain group we all know and love. The only part of this CD I don't care for is the vocals - the singer, Robert Forse, has a great range and is very precise, but has some kind of strange timbre to his voice that gets a little annoying. If you can get past that, though, I think you'd love this CD. In other words, they do NOT suck leg!

I saw a review of this in a Late Show Newsletter (the writer had already seen the pre-taped show) and yup, it promises to be very entertaining. I think the guy said that MM was quite literate, and managed to keep GGL quiet most of the time, if you can believe that!

    Hey folks -

Sorry about the NDTC, but I have been looking high and low for a couple of CD's, and I hope that someone out there can help. Some time ago, I posted a similar request for a CD copy of Cliff's last Metallica gig. I forgot the exact date, but it was a headlining show on the "Puppets" tour from Stockholm. The show is KILLER (I have it on cassette somewhere), and the source on the tape sounds like it came from vinyl. Several people were kind enough to reply to my original post, but no one was able to help. How about now? :-)

Secondly, I've been looking for the promo or CD-Single by Machine Head that has a live recording of "Davidian" on it. Machine Head had always been one of those bands that I would listen to (on the late night local metal radio show), but never was so impressed to buy anything. That is... until I heard "Davidian" live on the radio. Wow... talk about intensity! Anyway, if anyone can tell me first what the recording is from, and secondly, if anyone is either willing to sell their CD copy, or knows where I can obtain a CD copy, I'd be greatly appreciative.

If anyone can help me with Metallica and/or Machine Head, please reply via private e-mail. Thanks again for your time...

    Hi, Matt.

Unfortunately, I don't have this show, neither I have heard this show, but I know that the date is 9/26/86, The Tragic Day.

    Hope this helps, Roger...

P.S.: I don't know if you have heard, but here in Sao Paulo, we have a galleria with shops that only sell rock (BTW, it is called "Galeria do Rock") and I saw the bootleg there, I think.
