Hi,
A little rave about the new Bruce Dickinson album. Someone said
Maiden reborn, and I have to agree. Without wanting to give my age
away too much - I got into Maiden in about 1982 and I feel that they
peeked at Powerslave. The last album I liked was Somewhere In Time -
when was that? 1987-88 ish, I'm not sure - but basically I was hitting
late teens and eventually grew out of them. They seem to hit on the
idea that they could just keep 15-16 year old boys happy and all would
be well. But it wasn't - they did not progress with me and I always
thought of them as a teeny-bop-rock band (boy am I upsetting people
here - this is just MHO so no flames please - well unless you're
really angry).
Anyway - along comes this new album (with Adrian Smith - no less!)
and wham!! - this is where Maiden should have gone!!
I like very much!
Dave (a UK Jammer).

Don't forget Innocence Faded. JP is trying to run the band, I tells ya!
Wouldn't it be cool if John Myung suddenly went on a power trip and started
writing whole concept albums by himself and then fired everyone from the
band and hired Mark Slaughter to replace James and then played the rest of
the instruments himself?
Maybe not...

'Roy Z has never really been in Maiden'? Does that mean he's 'kinda' been in Maiden, but not really? Sorry, couldn't resist.

Da Leps had two songs? I thought it was only one song... can't remember, really... my brother has a copy, but suddenly black spots appeared on the second disc for no apparent reason and made the cd jump when played. Bloody good jumper, too! :)
Anyway, haven't listened to it for a while. Last time was after The X Factor came out, and I decided to listen to the White Spirit song again (Janick Gers' old band). Good song, too. ---
Ordered my Faith No More tickets on Monday, and they still haven't arrived. A guy at work who ordered his half an hour before I did got his yesterday, and he just lives down the street from me.

Hi all
not exactly a new release (I believe it came out at the end of 96), but it only fell into my CD player two days ago. Here it is, then:
Left Hand Solution - Fevered
The first full-length offering by the Swedish quartet fronted by the beautiful Mariana Holmberg. I bought this on the basis of recommendations made on the My Dying Bride list, and I must admit that I was a bit surprised by what I heard. I was expecting something along the lines of The Gathering or Theatre Of Tragedy - no way. There is nothing gothic about this album. This is doom, pure. Just guitar, drum, bass and angelic vocals. If Mariana's voice can be compared to anybody else, then she sounds a bit like Ann-Mari Edvardsen from The 3rd And The Mortal. The songs are sometimes like My Dying Bride without the violins and keyboards but without dripping with self-pity. Almost a bit like Paradise Lost used to be when they made 'Gothic'. When the drummer sings, I have to think of Type O Negative as well (not only does the drummer sing, but he also wrote most of the songs). There are also undeniable similarities to the Spanish band Elbereth. But in spite of all these similarities, this band has a very unique sound of it's own that I like very much. No frills, just good, heavy, a little bit hard and darker than a black hole's butt. I'm looking forward to seeing this band live sometime. Although this album isn't exactly what I expected, it still deserves 9/10.
Over the last couple of years, I have got very much 'into' metal/doom/goth bands with female singers. Anybody else out there share my perversion? I can thoroughly recommend all of the following:
- Elbereth - The Gathering - The 3rd And The Mortal - Theatre Of Tragedy - Left Hand Solution - Within Temptation
Can anybody recommend any more similar bands? All tips gratefully received.
stay safe and happy listening Neil Gallop (nga@software-ag.de) Currently playing: Yes - Close To The Edge

In reply to those who sent me Email regarding this file, to make it easier for everyone I have uploaded it to a FTP server and is now available at ftp://godzilla.gmsnet.com/incoming/ under the file name Dt_Yes_Mp3.mp3 . This file will be moved to ftp://godzilla.gmsnet.com/pub/mpeg/ in the next couple of days, and will be linked from Dr. Mosh's progmetal page at http://progmetal.gmsnet.com
Anyone else who is wondering what all this shit above is, I am talking about an MP3 file of DT playing a Yes medley.
To those interested, an excellent MP3 player is available at: http://winamp.lh.net/ or http://www.nullsoft.com/amp/

Yep, I've got the US version. I think it only has one DL song and that song is an early version of the song Wasted. I wonder what other differences exist between the British and US versions...
Well I made another person a DT fan. I think I created a monster though... About 3 years ago I told a friend of mine about DT and played Images and Words for him. At that time he wasn't too impressed. Last week I was talking to him and he says that he has to listen to Metropolis every day. We were listen to Images and Words and every 5 seconds he is going "HOw the hell does he do that?". Pretty funny...

I got a Division cd yesterday. I haven't listened to all of it yet but it is great prog metal. I can't wait to see how these guys sound live. They should be a great opening band for Fates August 8th. The cd booklet had pictures of the band members and I was like cool I can see what the Jammer Mike Blevins looks like. Wrong. He is doing his John Myung impersonation with his hair _ALL_ over his face...

<SAVATAGE:
How many of you agree that Dead Winter Dead is a true masterpiece, both lyrically and musically? A Handful of Rain is awesome as well. Therefore does anyone have other Savatage recommendations for me if I REALLY like the above two CDs? I'm terribly impressed with these 2 CDs by Savatage...>
Well my favorite is definitely Hall of the Mountain King. It has a much different, darker sound than the two you have heard, but it is wonderful. When they play Edvard Grieg's "Hall of the Mountain King" it is simply awesome. Jon Oliva, their original singer sings on this album. I really think all their albums I have heard kick ass. I own all of them except Fight for the Rock which people say is very commercial and not very good at all, and Power of the Night. Does anybody have Power of the Night that would like to sell for about $10. I can't find it anywhere.

Jon Oliva is my favorite singer, and I think his shrieking is great :) He sounds so evil on "hall of the mountain king." Does anybody have a Dr. Butcher cd; Jon's other band? I've heard that it is very much like old Savatage.

Well, I've been told that it has about 30 songs. Could you tell what is its name and what is the label? Maybe we can find it on some of the on-line stores (CD Now, CD Universe, CD Connection, CD World etc). Maybe other people who has these 2-CD set can throw in other comments?? Is it worth getting??
Thank you very much, Roger...

That's just a matter of oppinion. Though I have to admit that Mesas are more tone-reliable (hell, you get a Mesa, you KNOW you'll get good tone, period), I still swear by my Marshall 30th Anniversary head... I haven't found anything I like better, yet. Though Mesas and my new Carvin MTS3212 combo come close. Of course there's always the fact that you might like an amp better than another because of the guitar you play. I think the Marshall gives me all the chunk and balls I need (it has that extra gain stage like the SL-X), while it doesn't make my Universe 7-string sound muddy. And yes, that channel two does have a bass response not found in any other Marshall (though I still have to play the JCM 2000 to see if it's as good as those guitar mags say it is... anybody played one yet?)

I have always liked the humor on Shiek Yerbouti. I think it is his most hillarious album. The musical value is not as good as on Hot Rats because he is making fun of music and its styles (especially music of the seventies). He consistanly pokes fun at everyone on Shiek Yerbouti but mostly jokes about sex--hetero and homo. If you want a good laugh, check it out.
