James LaBrie would sing for Journey in place of Steve Perry...they will
    call the band Tornado
Derek would play covers in a band with Greg Smith and rule the world...

What DT needs is the album to be produced by Ron Nevson...then the album

I've been an It Bites fan since '87 or so... Great stuff. A Dutch prog-magazine once called them the Marillion of the 90's (not that they're anything like them)... Of course the Marillion of the 90's turned out to be Marillion :-) Also, It Bites never made it into the 90's, 'cuz they split up in '89... After that, Francis Dunnery was part of Robert Plant's band (he appears on "Fate of Nations" I think). My favourite Dunnery solo album is definately "Welcome To The Wild Country", which was only released in Japan (very hard to find, I think).

    > Unfortunately they've now split up but they had the grace to leave > us with three studio albums and a double live one.

A double live album ? My copy of "Thank You And Goodnight" is just a single album. Is there a double album version of it ? (hope so!) There is also a compilation album, with one previously unreleased track on it.

    > They're style is progressive rock with slightly poppy overtones.

I'd call their first album "The Big Lad In The Windmill" progressive pop, their second album "Once Around The World" progressive, and the last album "Eat Me in St. Louis" progressive rock, with the emphasis on rock.

    > Every musician (four piece, guitar, bass, drums and keys) is the > dogs bollocks (that's good in England).

The thing that struck me is how well they sound *together*. They're great musicians on their own, but together they're magic.

    > Their best Album (IMHO) is "Once Around The World".

In my opinion too :-) If you check this album out, make sure you get the EUROPEAN version and NOT the shorter US version... The US has only 5 tracks instead of 9. One of the 5 tracks is a *shorter* version too. :-( One of the songs that isn't on the US version, is the 15 minute title track.

I also wished I had the limited edition of "Eat Me In St. Louis", which has a bonus single with (I think) two extra tracks on it...

In the interest of starting a Division thread (Send $$ to me, Mike - you have the address)...

Pat said: >I got a Division cd yesterday. I haven't listened to all of it yet but it >is great prog metal.

I have to slightly disagree. I wouldn't classify Division as prog metal per se. I like Mike's description of power/prog instead. If you buy the cd expecting Dream Theater/Fates Warning-type progression, you aren't going to get it. There are influences here and there - don't get me wrong - but I hear a lot more Maiden, Forbidden, and the like *with prog leanings* moreso. I assume Mike has sound clips at the Division web page <http://www.crosslink.net/~division> and you can/should hear for yourselves. Listening to sound clips is free, and the cd is good enough to warrant spending a few bucks to support independent metal.

On the other hand, some of the new material sounds more like prog metal. I think this is natural, because anytime you spend a few years getting that first cd out, you end up with a strangely wide range of material, because the time span is so great. I think the follow-up to "paradise lost" (tentatively entitled "we're in it for the chix, bra") will be a little more consistant thematically and stylistically, but hey - what do I know? I know that I was kidding about that cd title...

    >I can't wait to see how these guys sound live. They >should be a great opening band for Fates August 8th.

I have seen them, ah..three times? Anyway, they sound pretty good live - in some ways better than on disc. If you can stand Axel-er-Scott's stage antics, and listen to the music, it's cool.

    >The cd booklet had >pictures of the band members and I was like cool I can see what the >Jammer Mike Blevins looks like. Wrong. He is doing his John Myung >impersonation with his hair _ALL_ over his face...

I think he looks sorta like Jon Oliva from Savatage - but then I've seen him in a suit/presentable-looking, so maybe I could be wrong ;-)

Mike, you have a thread - you have hit the jam big time!

Well, I'd not say that Behind is prog metal, but heavy metal with progressive influences. One of the heaviest album that I know and I think that from the sixth song on the album is far better... :-)

Anyway, great album and everyone should listen to it.

Aparently, Peter Renfro, ProgDay organizer, had several CD-Rs pressed from bands scheduled to appear for promotional purposes. Big problem, it seems to me, is that the bands had no idea this was going on. I feel that had he simply consulted fg about the situation none of this would have happened.

Oh well, I'll be in Pittsburgh checkin' out Marillion anyway on the 30th. :)

Well, we have come to the close of another Ytse-Survey Int'l. It was a lot of fun, and once again, a big thanks to all who participated. We ended up with 164 participants, destroying our goal by 14. 23 contributions came in during the big 'LAST 2 DAYS' push. Good job, y'all.

Here are the final Ytse-Survey International II results: (sorry for the ungodly length of this post -- let the flaming begin)

Number of participants: 164 Number of different bands/artists mentioned: 372

Not only did Rush win the competition, they destroyed it. They take the survey with a whopping 95 votes, 8 votes over defending champion Queensryche, who themselves broke their own original record. The biggest two improvements over the last two days of eligibility were Angra, who jumped clear up into a tie for 6th place with Megadeth, and King's X, whose 7 votes over the last two days (where were YOU guys?) earned them a spot on the 'Honorable Mention' list with 20 votes.
