    Hi there,
I have to agree with the people who aren't too happy about the splitting up
of BMS, but I still hope that they might release the demo version (about 9
minutes long, I think) as a B-side on a future single. It'd definitely make a
nice contrast if the A-side was Take Away My Pain...

    Take Care,
    Andreas Berger

Well, just one thing that I was discussing with Marcelo the other
day: can you hear those higher frequencies on the samples in SDV??? I
mean, the sound of the fly-back (some very, very high frequencies).

It is funny that I can hear with my left ear, but not with my
    right ear.

And what are the frequencies of those sounds (the higher), if
    anyone knows??

Thank you for any comments, Roger...

    Yo maggots,

Well I assume after reading the last jam everybody went and downloaded You Not Me. The guy on the file says this will be the first single but MP says it'll be BMS, whatever, both sound like they would be good choices. Here's my little review

Goods: Woah?!? Was that James singing in the beginning?? I like how James sings on this because he sings clean but he doesn't sound like a glam singer. The groove in the beginning under the vocals is good and yes.......MYUNG IS CLEARLY AUDIBLE EVEN ON A HIGHLY COMPRESSED LOW QUALITY MP3 FILE! Chorus kicks ass. Is that James singing along with himself or are the other boys in there? I love the wah-guitar with the keys right after the first chorus, they also end the song with this groove. Portnoy is still tearing it up even though it's a realitively simple song, not many time sig changes. Derek sounds good even though he mainly just adds keyboard tectures in an APSoG sort of style, meaning the guitars dominate but he keys are definitely there. The instrumental part is cool in a funky sort of way, but this brings me to the first and only....

Bads: As soon as the band is starting to jam JP only gets about 1 bar of shredding! He could have ripped all over the progression under the the chorus. Oh well, that's my only complaint.

Rock on, and give me an MP3 of Trial of Tears, will ya?!? :)

Before I posted my original post I thought about saying heavy prog metal but to me prog metal encompasses a wide range. I've now had the chance to listen to the cd a lot more and I like it more now then I did before. There are a lot of great tunes on this disc. Division has a lot of potential and hopefully they will be able to make it in the music biz.

I think he did the backing voice during the chorus, it's like an echo of the lead vocals between James' lines. (Hey, like Mike's vox on Burning My Soul live.) These backing lines were quite bluesy, so I think it would fit if Doug Pinnick did them.

    >2) Are there any cool samples in any of the songs?

The only samples I heard yet were the radio-tune-samples on "You or/not me". That's all. Another DT trademark gone? We'll see...

Well, they cut 3 1/2 minutes from the demo version. I just can try to imagine how it will sound without the middle section, but I think it's a shame. It was this part of the song that made it good. A heavy song with a surprising but always fitting break. It's their album, I hope they knew what they were doing.

    Hey all.

    1) Does anyone have (or know of a location on the web of) a transcription of the John Myung interview that was conducted in Bass Player magazine a while back? I checked the Bass Player home page, but there was nothing. Any leads, etc. would be heartily appreciated.

(As a side note, I can just imagine how this interview is, what with John being the Silent Man....

BP: So, you play bass for Dream Theater, huh? Myung: (nods) BP: How long have you been playing? Myung: (shrugs, holds up a bunch of fingers) BP: Okay, ah, well, what kind of equipment do you use? Myung: (points to rig sitting in corner of the studio)

    etc... )

    2) Does anyone else get as excited as I do when you turn someone onto DT (esp. when you turn them OFF of country? :) I thought this was a major coup for all us prog-rockers....)

    3) My mind just drew a blank... damn.. I hate that...

You know, the reaction to this album has been great all around, and this one sounds the most like Maiden of any of Bruce's efforts so far. It also sounds more like Maiden than "X-Factor" did...

The US version is called "NWOBHM: '79 Revisited", and Lars does the liner notes. It also has a COOL picture of Thunderstick on the cover, if I remember correctly. (Hey, didn't I talk about Dickenson earlier? My, what a long, strange trip it's been!) This stuff was some of the formative music of my youth - Maiden, Saxon, Gaskin, Preying Mantis, Holocaust, Angel Witch, etc. - and of course the almighty Diamond Head!. The production (and some of the playing) is really bad by today's standards, but the exuberance overcomes that. If you want to hear the scene that gave birth to Maiden and the like, this is one of the only ways to do it - most of this stuff doesn't exist on CD in any other form.

Well, now that people know I'm old... :)

    Hi all

I consider it socially irresponsible to have a CD dealer right next to where the bank has it's cash point machine. The last thing I wanted to buy on Saturday was a new CD, so first I bought my groceries, then I went to the bank for some cash for the weekend, and then - the last thing I bought - was a new CD. So here's the review (some Dream Theater content - Mike Portnoy likes this band).

Pantera - Official Live: 101 Proof

As the owner of all the official post-glam Pantera albums, I've been looking forward to seeing the cowboys from hell on their current tour - but so far they haven't managed to haul their lame arses over the pond to Europe, so I'll have to make do with this. This is the official live album, but it still has a very raw, almost bootleg feel to it - there has obviously been very little (if any) touching up in the studio. Mr. Bahr would have been proud of this. Very powerful hard hitting, no holds barred, in your face stuff. About as subtle as a brick on the back of the head but a damn sight more enjoyable. Phil also has a couple of very interesting things to say about the state of metal (I hope Vince and Eckie get a listen to this). The highlights for me are Suicide Note Part 2, Walk, Hostile, Cemetary Gates and, of course, Cowboys From Hell. This album won't turn anybody onto Pantera, but if you already like them, this is a must, especially if you haven't seen them live. 9/10

The results of the ytse-poll held few surprises, but for my own interest, I would ask the other two (yes 2) who voted for Theatre OF Tragedy and for The 3rd And The Mortal to let me know who they are.

stay safe and happy listening Neil Gallop (nga@software-ag.de) Currently playing: The Sisters Of Mercy - A Slight Case Of Overbombing
