    Hiya gang !
Just the other day I was listening to that cd again and
was thinking to myself " I will NEVER get tired of this
cd, or any DT material anyways". Now I'm thinking are there
any NUTS out there who are tired of listening to this cd ?
Let me know do you still have this huge smile on yer faces
when you play the cd and won't ever stop wondering how
great this band is ?? You better keep that smile or I'll
come and beat the crap outta you all ! =) Just a small thought.
I'll keep DT's music in my heart till the day I die.
And I'll probably take it with me when I go to hell..
    Have a nice day. Satu

PS: YNM was great ! And still is..

Think I've noticed waaaay too much of a warm and happy feeling in the
last couple of jams. With that in mind, think I'll...

    Mike deployed:

    > But that's my opinion. I, personally, can't wait to hear it [FII],
    > and have none of the feelings I had about two of my other favorites
    > that have released CD's I didn't like.

Which CD's are those, Mike? :) And tell me, how long have you had these
feelings? C'mon, man, we need to know which groups they are, so the
    incendiary may be countered....

Let's put it this way, WAAF (local rock radio station) must comply:

Play the new DT or the bumper stick is removed :)

Sully cut several drivers off in Quincy, drew gunfire from a maniac at
    the Braintree split, then wrote:

    > Hey, I'm planning my wedding right now, and the fights I'm having with
    > my family over stuff make the flame-wars on here look like a love
    > fest. "It's all relative" :)

I thought Incest was forbidden on the jam? :)

By the way, where's the wedding reception? I'lldrive by with FII blaring
from the truck. It'll be my little YtsePresent to you and the MRS. :)

You know, it's great to be back :) Can't wait till people who think they
have large nads start bashing the new stuff for no apparent reason.
There'll be a overabundance of material to work with...

    WHO'S FUCKING NEXT????

:) <- Just in case people missed the 90 smileys earlier in the post...

    Warmest Regards,

    Jon

I recently picked up a CD of Asia, with heat of the moment. I'm wondering, is this the same Steve Howe as in earlier YES releases.

This is probably an obviously question, but can you e-mail me privately to confirm what's probably my obvious hunch.....

    Another note:

Here are whom I regard as the best prog dummers out on the scene in recent times (and of what I've listened to...)

Rush's Neil Peart (of course!) Dream Theater's Mike Portnoy (of course!) Fates Warning's Mark Zonder Enchant's Paul Craddack ? Shadow Gallery's Kevin Soffera ?

I'm not totally sure about the spelling/names of these last two, but you get the idea! I think SG's drummer does some pretty amazing stuff in Carved in Stone. I can hardly wait for their new release "Tyranny" that I've been hearing about off and on.

Finally, what's this about Enchant having another CD out? I have A Blueprint of the World, and Wounded, but I've been hearing about a third CD (can't remember the title). How can I get it? Enchant must be busy, because they just releases Wounded this year as well, according to the date on my magna carta CD.

    Bye for now, Jon

Just as a comment on what's been going on on the jam lately--has anyone even commented on this? I find this much more obnoxious than Bahr's posts about upcoming releases--this guy's holding an auction over the 'jam. If you want to try to get the most for your CD, fine, but do it through private email. Everyone who is interested has already made their offer--no one new is going to come along and say, "OH MY GOD! I MUST HAVE IT NOW THAT IT'S MORE EXPENSIVE!" Please take it to private email.

OK, allow me to announce my return to Ytsejam with a response. Not having heard the Asia album inquestion, I do have to say that I am not sure what happened to those guys. The band, as most know, consists of Carl palmer on drums, one of the best prog drummers in existence, Jeff Downs onkeys and Steve Howe on guitar. Downs and Howe were in Yes, and in hearing some of Asia's hits, I really don't know what got into those guys. Don't get me wrong, I like Asia, at least what I've heard, but these guys were not the type to do pop music, especially Carl Palmer. BTW, any ELP fans can check out Carl Palmer's brilliance if you live around New Jersey or New York. September 9, or is it the 8th they are playing at the State Theater in New Brunswick NJ. Got 22nd row, the best seats I've ever had, except at a DT concert of course. ElP is also playing at the Beacon theater and in Atlantic City, of all places, wonder how that happened. NOw, don't all of you guys get too excited about my return, OK?

I have one qeustion about this. What do you expect from a radio D.J. remember, these guys don't give two shits about music, they are trying to keep their listeners to generate advertising revenue. Radio is almost as evil as record companies. In fact, they are puppets of record companies. Remember, if it doesn't have loads of power chords, screaming vocals, bad drumming and loads of feedback with trite lyrics, why in hell would radio play it? Anybody think the new Genesis album is going to see the light of airplay? If it does, I'll be shocked. The only reason Rush got the airplay it had for Test for Echo is because they sound semi-alternative. And you really had to struggle to find a station that would play hte songs. When was the last time you heard Yes or ELP on the air? I have never heard Dream Theater played on the air except at the college station I sued to work at. I never heard Fate's warning, I only bought their cd through word of mouth here. If you want to hear radio play good music, try moving out of the country. I hear Europe actually cares about music as opposed to profits.

Well, I listened to it again and I still think he misses the timing. I would ask you to listen it again, and pay attention to the mark of 2:07 going to 2:08. It's a VERY soft missing, but it's there! Mark the timing with your hand while you listen, then you will know what I'm talking about. Or better: use a metronome. Find the corresponding timing and turn it on with the music. Right after the missing he corrects the beat again, so it IS almost imperceptible.

Yes, I really think he would've done it. But as I sad before, the miss-timing is almost imperceptible, I mean, it is so soft you must REALLY pay attention in order to percept it. By the way, it's almost confirmed that MP is coming for a Workshop here in my city: what would you think if I asked him this? hehehe... :-p

<nod> the one and the same. he was on 2 asia studio albums (Asia and Alpha) and is on the "Live in Osaka" CD just released from BluePrint.

    no?

    i'll do so now. :)

i'm probably one of the few on the jam who is really into the new (and the old) asia material. No, Asia isn't dead. Geoff is the only original member left, but John Payne does a great job (with 3+ albums under his belt) on bass and vocals.

    A quick discography:

Asia (1982) Alpha (1983) Astra (1985) - with Mandy Meyer on Guitar. Aurora (1986) - Japan only. Out Of Print. I need this. :) Then & Now (1990) - 4 new songs, 6 old songs. Live In Moscow (1991) Aqua (1992) - with Steve Howe, Carl Palmer, Al Pitrelli. 1st album with John Payne on bass/vocals. Aria (1994) - with Pitrelli. Arena (1996) Archiva 1 (1996) Archiva 2 (1996) Live in Nottingham (same tour as "moscow" and has wetton) - 1997 Live In Osaka (with Payne and Steve Howe) - 1997 Liev in Koln (Aria tour) - 1997 The Best Of Asia 1982-1997 this is the better one. this has quite a few John Wetton/Asia tracks redone by Payne/Downes.

That's your progressive rock history lesson for the day.
