but speaking seriously of crimson.....anyone recall how i mentioned some
station doing a prog rock weekend, based on giving away ELP tickets? So, I
heard a few ELP tunes.....and I also heard, get this, 21st Century
Schizoid Man and In the Court of the Crimson King.....
of course, that was probably because of mr. lake's presence on that KC

Has this been a great year for music that "we" like or what?
I mean, last year, I was having a hard time filling out a top 5 CDs of the
year list (maybe because I didn't buy all that much stuff??)
But this year.....right now, it's really close, but FII might be my 4th
fave of the year so far.....it's all up in a jumble with magellan's Test
of Wills, Finneus Gauge's More Once More and, of course, APSOG.....getting
the CD might make a difference, it's happened before....
But that's all before I've even heard the new Genesis, and the FREDDY
JONES BAND is supposed to be coming out with a new album too pretty soon
(if anybody ever checked up on this band, because of my prior
recommendations or otherwise, I would love to know about it)
all in all, a decent vintage, 1997

On the topic of hounding radio stations to play the new DT:
For those in Southern New England, I sent an e-mail to WHJY - specifically
to Dr. Metal, the nighttime/metal show DJ. I know this guy is a *big* DT
fan, so I'm pretty sure he'll get 'em on his playlist. I'll post his reply
when/if it comes in.
(As a side note: I know The Doctor is a big DT fan. I've seen him at all
the DT shows I've gone to, *including* the HFTH show in New London, CT - I
saw him just banging around in the crowd with the rest of us. I think that
bodes well.)
Now, we have to work on WAAF.... :)

I was looking through the CDEurope on-line catalogue, and it's listed there. It's expensive as hell, but there. There are quite a few different ones for that matter, all with different prices. Also there is a listing for TBA +2 is this some new CD I don't know about? What gives? Anyone know?

Sah-WEET! I knew I moved here for a reason! (Well, OK, it was becuz I finished college and got a job, but no way would the top-40-alternacrap station in Grand Forks play any DT!)

Umm, perhaps he *meant* to not play a note there. In music notation that's called a rest, and it is placed in a piece of music just as deliberately as a note.
This whole discussion is pointless anyway, because the only way a musician makes a "mistake" is if the piece of music is written out or is otherwise known to the listener beforehand (like they're playing a song live that's on a CD of theirs), and they don't play what you know they're supposed to play. Obviously, on a studio CD, no one but the band knows what they're supposed to play. I suppose you could second guess all you want, but until Portnoy himself says he didn't play something right on a CD, I would assume the CD performance is correct.

Hi everyone,
Quick comment on the "perfect" drummers thread, if you want a "perfect" drum song, look no futher then the new techno hit "Around the World." I'm not sure if that's title, but if that isn't the title it might be called "The Most Annoying Song In The World." Anyone make a connection. Mistakes are fun, "perfection" is annoying. --- On FNM thread: I have The Real Thing, KFADFFAL, and Album of the Year. But, I still like KFADFFAL the best. It's a very diverse album. I like them all, but that one is the best for me. --- Interesting note: Do all KTS CD's have that legal junk about not copying it, on them? --- If you haven't joined the progressive tape swap yet, I'm gonna kill ya! :) Go to http://www.auburn.net/~swifty/tapeswap.html to get the low down. --- > From: Renob125@aol.com > Subject: Miscellaneous Stuff

[disclaimer: The following does not include my opinion, just my experience of living in state with more drunk people than non-color blind people] Hehe, when I went to the opening night of Howard Stern's Private Parts, the trailers before the movie were so out of place. The final one(and the one that really got most of response) was for a Prince product. I say product because as soon as it came on people were throwing Great Danes(you know those dogs that sometimes get mistaken for skinny horses), and Rabbits(you know those cars that sometimes get mistaken for as 4 wheel bicycles) at the projection booth. Only thing I could make out, before the mass chaos, was one lone voice saying something like...Prince sucks! :)

Dunno where they got the name, but Volare rocks. They're from my town and I go to see 'em every chance I get. Extraordinarily talented bunch, with some insane time changes in their songs. This band is seriously tight -- there are very few groups I've seen turn on a musical dime so quickly and adeptly as this bunch. Plus the keyboardist, Pat, is a serious Rush fan and a genuinely cool guy.
Volare's new disc "The Uncertainty Principle" should be out fairly soon on The Laser's Edge label. Strangely enough, it was produced by Fred Schendel and Steve DeArqe of Glass Hammer, who I hear is also appearing at ProgDay this year....
You folk who're lucky enough to be around for the show, let the 'jam know how it went.
And somebody out there who knows keys (KorgX3, you listening?), what the hell is the difference between a synthesizer and a keyboard? I always thought they were more or less the same thing....

Actually, just need to mention that the June 93 show wasn't DT's first in Denver...they had one several months earlier at a place called the Gothic Theater (An incredibly superior place to see them, BTW) I had the show taped then the tape broke. I'm in the process of taping it back up.

are you blind? i said nothing of the sort. i was defending DT saying they shouldn't be held up to some ridiculous expectation that everything they play should be executed with robotic precision. that if there ARE rhythmic imperfections in portnoy's playing, so what? he's human. i have no problem with portnoy's playing nor the rest of the band's. i think they're great. i never said anything to the contrary.

Hey all,
I need some advice from fellow singers. What do you do when you have a cold, but still have to sing? Like... what do you do for preparation (drink, eat, etc.), what do you avoid, and what do you drink daily? I know this has been covered before, a ways back, so if someone could just forward me those, instead, that'd be cool. Thanks.
