    Isaac "Sabatage" Sabetai mentioned DT having to cut their setlist short
    last night to accomodate the ravers coming in later or whatever. Yes, it
    does suck, but it's not solely the fault of the club management, even if
    they are in the Mafia. DT could always shorten the intro music segment if
    they really wanted to play everything on the setlist.

    Between the last time a roadie was onstage doing anything and when the
    boys (the Dream Posse, that is) hit the stage they played:

    1. Speak to Me
    2. The Way it Used to Be
    3. The Rooster (of course)
    4. That long keyboard intro thing

    I think most fans would rather see DT play three more tunes LIVE than WAIT
    three songs longer for them to come on, even if they are listening to the
    unreleased stuff (which sucks, btw). DT is way into that "make the
    stage spooky and play some canned music" thing, but it drags on soooooo
    long! It's kind of like an announcer saying, "And now..... From Long
    Island New York.... The masters of their art....... Presenting.....
    Get ready for...... Put on your seatbelts....... The one. The
    only...... Put your hands together for....." etc. for like 15 minutes.

    The show was great, of course. I just want more show and less intro
    fluff, and I think most fans would rather see Nightmare Cinema or just
    a smidgeon of ACoS than listen to an old (but good) Alice in Chains
    song.

    Wacky, the guy who has seen DT 15 times and still hasn't seen
    Jmuthafuckin'P publicly realize his drumming fantasy.

    Someone mentioned Arkhe and I had to post seeing as the timing was pretty
    good. Yesterday, I got Arkhe, Darkstar, and Glass Hammer (Perelandra) in
    the mail and my impressions:

    Arkhe - pretty good. Opening song has a smooth guitar going and I was
    pretty excited, but the singer (although acent free) is not that great. A
    very uneven James Labrie sound I guess. Will take some getting used to.
    But the instrumental stuff is very prog, crazy, lots of keys etc. Grade B

    Darkstar - the solo album from the guitarist of Psychotic Waltz. This is
    a fucking cool album. Very mellow, but powerful. Lots of samples and
    keys actually. Very cool. Grade A

    Glass Hammer - Love this other than the singing, which is decent but
    cheesy at times. Mix between ELP and early Genesis, but some very cool
    songs on the album. Artwork is beautiful. Grade A-

            You'll have problems with Amorphis if (as you wrote) you have
    problems with the cookie monster vocals. The EP "My Kantele" is their
    lightest release to date. If you like the style of the songs from "My
    Kantele", then you'll probably like the album featuring this song. It is
    called "Elegy", but keep in mind that this album has, say, 50% of the
    vocals done by the death growler and the other 50% by the newer
    (clean) vocalist, not like the 5/95 on the EP you have.

            "Tales from the Thousand Lakes" has almost no clean vocals (and to
    be honest, the clean vocals on this album are so terrible that I prefer
    the death vocals).

            BTW, I don't think they are very heavy also, but I have not heard
    their first releases ("Karelian Isthmus" and "Privilege of Evil"), which
    are said to be pure death metal. So, I can't comment on heaviness.

    This isn't really a reply to this statement. I just had some stuff I needed to say about Fates. :)

    I saw the Fates show on Thursday in Weymouth, and it was OUTstanding. I was one of the people in the camp that didn't "get" APSOG, but after seeing it live, I have a new appreciation for the song, and the band in general. Alder was spot-on all night long, and as for Zonder....he makes that stuff look so damn *easy*. It's sickening, it really is. :)

    And a *funny* TSO story. At work, my co-workers listen to a top-40/pop/MIX station, much to my chagrin. However, lately, they've been playing TSO a lot, which is pretty cool. But appaerently, some listeners are having difficulty pronouncing the name of the band. To wit: a woman called up last week, and they put her on the air, and she requested "'Christmas Eve - Sarajevo', by that Transvestite Orchestra Band." I nearly fell out of my chair laughing.

    It says here in the liner to Ozzmosis: Rick Wakeman - Keyboards. Also, there's a special participation of Steve Vai on the 8th song of this album (Vai co-wrote the song with Ozzy), "My Little Man".

    Well I did see DT last night. Good thing I didn't blink though because I might have missed them. They cut out about 1/4 of their show (roughly half an hour). During Rooster, Isaac, Mike Burnstin, Chad and I all noticed the crew crossing out various songs on the setlist. Scary. After the show, the whole Boston Jam gang was huddled around the setlist. Our hearts sank as we discovered what we didn't get:

    1.Crimson Sunrise 2.Innocence 3.Darkest of Winters 4.Crimson Sunset 5.Scarred 6.NIGHTMARE CINEMA!

    That is A LOT to cut out of a set. Mark Metzger had a very good point. He said that if you are going to cut material out of your show, cut the more average stuff and leave the gems like Scarrred and Nightmare Cinema (which 99% of the Boston crew has never seen or heard). Anyway...

    After the show I noticed Skadz running going "Derek Wait! Derek! Derek!", so I start running in Skadz' direction. I shook Derek's hand and thanked him for a great performance. He told me it was his pleasure (or something like that). Skadz began to drill him on the Providence show. Derek seems to think that it will take place at LUPOS since the Strand is closed. (For those who don't know, Lupos is right across the street from the strand.) Skadz then asked if they were going to hang out for a while, but Drek said they had to take off right away :( so I did get to spring my setlist question on MP.

    I love all the comments who guys have been coming up with on the music industry and the like.

    As I learned about social and personal change is that you must be made aware of something, before you can change. Well I made a statement about the industry and you guys have put a lot of thinking into it. A lot of the thoughts and ideas I've been saying are so true and maybe by people just reading those thoughts and ideas you've sparked something someone has never thought about before. That's' how change begins, it's up to the individual to complete the change though, no matter what that's the final say in change.

    How does this involve the music industry. If we want change (which will happen as someone has said - stagnation in the industry, change of tastes, loss of money and so forth) we as a group can spread the word to friends, families or even others on the internet. Plant the seed, water the seed and with a little sunlight, you may see the seed 'change' into a plant.

    Of course this is not an overnight process, but hey Rome wasn't built overnight, it took two full working days!!!! :)

    Well before I keep on rambling....if anyone is really interested in learning more about this crazy psychological stuff (why the hell am I - a marketer even into this stuff - you may ask) email me privately.

    DGM is mostly Fripp related projects right now. It also has solo albums from Crimson-related artists (Tony Levin, Trey Gunn, Adrian Belew, Bill Bruford) as well. On the sampler, they do have a couple of other bands. The California Guitar Trio (who has played with Fripp), Europa String Choir, Gitbox, Los Gauchos Alemanes, Peter Hammill. It looks like the label hasn't been around that long yet, so we will see if he comes up with more bands.

    I disagree with most of this. The music industry has always had the "musical printing press" running. In the 60s, there were millions of different little "groups" that got lots of airplay. Most of these groups were created by a producer and had songs written for them. They just performed. Sometimes it was just a "look" that they wanted. Anything to sell albums. Is this any different than Right Said Fred or Spice Girls? I think not.

    The Top 40 isn't nearly as important as it was before. There isn't a "lack of variety" in the Top 40, there just AREN'T any Top 40 stations any more. They have all speciallized. You have rap stations, rock stations, adult contemporary stations, "alternative" stations, R&B stations. Top 40 as it was in the 80's is dead.

    Integrety is still around. It is just harder to find. We listen to a lot of bands that have integrety. The problem right now is that there are not too many new bands that are sucessful right now. Of course, I don't listen to radio much anymore, so I might be wrong.

    I disagree with the examples given by the original poster of bad pop music. I have a friend of mine who is a musician and a big fan of 70s prog who was very impressed with Three Dog Night. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it is bad.

    I picked up Ayreon: The Final Experiment at PowerMad. It was one of those "I still have money in my pocket. What should I pick up?" decisions. I picked up this and have no regrets. It isn't a band per se, more like a project. Arjen Anthony Lucassen is the man behind this. A Dutch guitarist who wrote this Rock Opera, who used various musicians, including 13 different lead singers, to make this album. One of the lead singers is Lenny Wolf, for those who were wondering what ever happened to him. The results are quite impressive. One of the better rock operas that I have ever heard. I highly recommend this album.
