Just wondering if any of those intending to record the ReBroadcast of the DT show could possibly make the file available for all those less fortunate who are unable to record the show. I know that someone posted the URL and the crack, but it doesn't seem to work. It's porbably one of the only times that some of us will get to hear DT doing the new material live. Thanks in advance. Still waiting for DT to come down under...
Regards,
Rainer

If I'm not mistaken, Peart was upset partially because people usually do tributes to bands/people that are broken up/dead. But Rush isn't dead yet, so there's no point making a tribute to them yet. And another quote I heard floating around in this regard is that Peart didn't want a bunch of "garage bands" playing their music (or something like that). But didn't we pound this one into the ground a while back? ;)

Hey guys, go to http://index.thunderstone.com/texis/demos/gbwr
The demos part might be singular, but it's one of those. It's a guiness book index. Type in "guitar" in the search field, and then select "miscellaneous endeavors: guitar playing." Look at the record for fastest playing; it'll blow your fucking mind. It can't be true; just figure out how many notes per minute that is. In case you're too lazy to go there and you'd rather just trust me, it says the record is 5400 in a minute, or 90 a second! Some guy Gary Clarke aka Rick Raven. jason

Hey!
Bought two Symphony X albums today. Here are my opinions about them:
Symphony X:The Damnation Game
Oh Yes!This album rules!I love the way the drums and the guitar play together. The bass drum goes in unison with the guitar. The drummer plays like Mark Zonder, except that he uses more double bass. The guitarist is really good.Heīs soloes are incredible and there are a lot of them. The keyboardist is good, too.Although I really canīt say much about keyboards because I know dick about them. :-)I really canīt point out any weak tracks from this album. The production on this album is great!
Symphony X:Symphony X
This album is almost as good as the Damnation game. There is one weak track on this album,"Shades of gray".The production is not as good as on the damnation game, but still very good. The drummer plays more on this album than on TDG, which is a BIG plus(Yes, Iīm a drummer :-). The keyboards are a bit on the background on this album.I really would like to hear more of them.Again, there are a lots of great guitar solos.I tend to like the singer more than JLB.IMO, he has more power in his voice.
Does Symphony X have any more albums?I know they have at least one more(Divine wings of tragedy, which I couldnīt find from my local record store).I really like this band.In fact, I LOVE it!

I just wanted to say that Spinning Years is definitely recommended, especially with the Christmas deadline rapidly approaching. For me, Caught in Amsterdam alone would've been worth the $22, but there is half a day's worth of DT bootlegs on the CD.

I just ordered it today.
While I was there to make the vist worthwhile I also ordered Paradox by Royal Hunt and the Rudess-Morgentstein Project cd...

At the recent Fates show at Jaxx I went to the front row right before Divine Regale came out and right before everyone decided to go up front. So during Fates some girl taps me on the shoulder and says "can I squeeze in". I just ignored her. I'm not giving up a comfortable spot. Where was she 3 hours earlier when there was no one in the front row at all? Some people...
Oh yeah, a warning, if you ever see Mike Blevins of Division about to flip a pick, watch out. At the show Saturday, he was trying to flip the pick at me about 15 feet from the stage and he hit Kevin Madden dead on. Kevin was standing right in front of Mike.... Of course to everyone in the audience, this looked 100% intentional. It was only when Mike confessed that the truth was known...
Lets go Jets and Colts this weekend... (of course the Redskins have to win as well)...

Hey jammers,
Just wanted you to know, if you haven't listened to it yet, Bozzio, Levins & Stevens; Black Light Syndrome CD is Awesome. I can't believe they only went through the songs twice before they played them.
Bozzio is a monster, then again, look at the size of his kit!! I was at a drum clinic and I think I actually saw a kitchen sink somewhere in his setup, I think it was behind the chimes?
If you see this in the music stores, grab it, it's excellent cruising jams.

oh, and what love it is. :)
so, i get in line around 5:30 or so (meeting up with Dan Russell, another Temple alum) to find out that the show has been sold out. Keeping that in mind, the line starts to form fairly quicly. Around 6, Derek walks bye and says hello...as he goes for coffee (gotta have your vitiman c, kids!). Of course, no one believes it's him. He comes back, i say hello as he walks by. Of course, he has no idea who -i- am. :)
Now it's about 6:15, and there's a good line. Mike walks out wearing his brand spankin' new Orange Oompa Loompa shirt, bongo (his dog), marlene and the new tyke. Of course, they look precious! Time to walk the dog, eh? :) About 10 minutes later, the band comes out to go to dinner a few blocks away. Now, by this time there's a HUGE line, and they got a standing ovation. It was fairly amusing.
I meet up with our good pal Rob Barker, and the doors opened around 7:15 or so. Pretty early, i thought, but who's complaining, right? Of course, since it's sold out, there's not a lot a room (keep in mind that the TLA only holds about 800 or so...), but it's a nice cozy atmosphere.
Big Wreck came on at 8:00 to a series of boo's, which i found embarraising. All the kids were asking for Slayer, and Ian's like "yeah! slayer!!!!" - he knew it was gonna be a rough nite. Anyway, they played their set and they keep getting better and better. Every time i see them, i'm always impressed. I can't wait to hear the album.
To make a long story longer, BW goes out at around 8:45, and the DT demos start. We find Jill/Quazel and we're good to go. As Rob and I analyze John's guitar setup, we see a familiar quote on his rack: "When You Magoo The Magee"
I think we're the only one's that got it. :)
Anyway, the demos were played (i still think Raise The Knife is amazing), and after the Rooster/Clockwork Orange music, Derek (who i firmly believe is Trevor Horn, incarnate) walked out and started Lines In The Sand.
To those of you who were at the Washington, DC show - it was the same setlist, but i'll try to give you a rundown on what they played (in no particular order)
Lines In The Sand Burning My Soul Voices Just Let Me Breathe Hollow Years Take Away My Pain New Millenium (with John's phat chapman stick) Puppies On Acid The "please don't go" part of ACOS :) Scarred Peruvian Skies Pull Me Un-dah :) Ytsejam (in part).
Of course, the band was in TOP form - i had never seen them this rocking. After NM, we heard the opening of Metrop, and all hell broke loose, until....
You know how they stop in the middle of metrop and do some funky stuff? Well, Philly had a special treat. I'm not going to tell you what it is, but picture this:
Derek in a lime green moomoo, on vocals. Mike, playing drums and background vocals. John P, playing punk rock again. :)
The song was called 'I don't like you' and, according to Mike, "the first time we ever played it live." It was hilarious.
And of course, they jump right back into Metrop at the drop of a hat. :)
So, the show ends, and since Rob/I have tthe connections, we stay and hang out. Gary, Carl, and Brendt from Shadow Gallery were there as well (they all say hello!), so we chatted with them for a bit. Very nice guys. I asked them what's up with Tyranny, and Gary coyly smiled and said "We have no official comment." Ok. I asked unofficialy, and he said "we have no official comment", laughing as he said it.
James, John P, Derek and Mike all come out and chat with the 15 or so that was there. I asked John about Metrop II, and he mentioned that it's 'just about out of the writing phase' which is always a good thing. I asked him about the Christmas disc, and he just smilied and said "I can't tell you what's on it." Heehee. He also mentioned that he can't get the Saga game he worked on (i forget the name of it, but you know what i mean) to play on his Saga!!
Mike, as always, was in a great mood. He sends his regards to everybody on the jam (of course), and seemed to be happy with the way the shows have come out. We talked about FII for a bit (i had just recently received the Hollow Years single with the old version of You Not Me/You Or Me on it...), and some things that he's up to.
All in all, a great show. If you _can_ see them this tour, i would hope that you would - they're not to be missed!
- mike.

Hiya, kids!
It's that time of the year again. It's time to pick your top 5 releases of the year. Last year we had over 300 people from the ytsejam who picked their favorites and i hope to have that many responces this time.
DIRECTIONS:
email me (either respond to this or email me at the address below) with your top 5 CD's of 1997. THIS MEANS: the cd MUST have been released in 1997. Any Mike Bahr CD released in 1997 counts. Hell, ANY CD counts - but it has to have been released this year.
Send them to me with the subject: ytsejam top 5 - and we'll be on our way.
HOW THE SCORES WORK.
You send your top 5 IN ORDER of how you want them. For every 1st place vote, that CD gets 5 points. For 2nd place, 4 point, and etc. For example, this is what I picked for last year's top 5:
1. I Mother Earth - Scenary And Fish (this got 5 points) 2. Tool - Aenima (this got 4 points) 3. Rush - Test For Echo (this got 3 points) 4. Lemur Voice - Insights (this got 2 points) 5. Swamp Terrorists - Killer (this got 1 point)
seem easy? it is! so, send your choices away.
THIS WILL BE VALID UNTIL DECEMBER 31, 1997. GET YOUR VOTES IN TODAY!

(Yeah! Acing 4 out of 5 finals sure is great therapy... :) I'm out of here until May!)
I can understand DT's reasoning there... but IMHO The Killing Hand should be the one exception to this rule. It's one of their best songs ever, and who cares if Charlie did the irugubak vocals (JLB sounds so awesome when they play that song anyway!)
Anyway, my latest quest in life is to see DT play LTL live...

Guitar Talkin' (Acoustic & Clinic) ______________________________________________________________ 1. Lifting Shadows off a Dream 2. Wait for Sleep 3. Tears 4. The Silent Man (Radio Veronica Session - NL - 14/2/95) 5. Another Day (US Radio Power Thirty - 6/93) 6. Lost Without you 7. Untitled (Demo, Petrucci - New Song) 8. Final Jamming 9. Raise the Knife (New Song - Petrucci & Portnoy's Clinic in Milano - 3/3/96) 10. Learning to Live 11. Take the Time 12. To Live Forever (La Brie, Audition Demo - 3/91) Notes: This CD has a bit of hiss, mainly in the first two tracks. The sound quality is nothing like Metallica's "Live Shit", but I think that the material here is very valuable (mostly due to the new songs and acoustic versions of great songs). I rate it as an B-, soundwise. The contents are worth an A+. ______________________________________________________________
