Hi
My friend Ardian is working on the "Lines In The Sand" tab.
I will inform you when it will be online on Prog Or Die.
After that, he will work on "Burning My Soul".
Than, he will try to work on the complete APSOG guitar tab !!!
The EMPTY TREMOR samples on Prog Or Die can be heard only with SoundBlaster.
I've used a Cretive Labs compresions software to make the files smaller.
I will try to convert them in to MP3 format so eveyone can enjoy the greatest
band since Shadow Gallery (IMO).
The samples can be found on the More Progressive Bands section.

Howdy All,
I think I rememeber reading that Rush was not upset that people wanted to
pay tribute to them but more so what a tribute meant to Rush...
Most tribute albums recognize bands that have had their "Golden Years" and
are no longer putting out music that made them famous... Either that or
the artist being recognized is dead.
Rush's issue with the tribute was "Hey, we are still here, still rocking
and still have great music left to write, so don't write us off yet with a
tribute album."
I think I remember reading that there was litigation pending against Magna
Carta for being the label behind the Working Man tribute. I don't know how
that turned out though.

two things have come up recently that i thought i'd comment on. the
first is bozzio / levin / stevens, an absolutely incredible album. what
incredible players.
ok, pat matheny. i know very little, having only picked up one of his
more recent works, "under a missouri sky." it's mostly just duets with
charlie haden, a wonderfully talented upright bass player. the music is
very mellow, but is quite beautiful. high recommendations.

I must say that I would be glad to buy an official ACOS tab book. But as I
know that it certainly won't be released, I think the idea of the ACOS tab
project is great. Many people want to learn how to play DT songs.

After I have listen to Freak Kitchens "Spanking Hour" for two weeks now
I must say it is a killer album and probably the best I have bout in
'97.
And Mattias "IA" Eklundh is a real wizard with his guitar.
So find it, buy it, listen to it and love it.

Well, you have the tape with our voices... You should remember

sorry if this has already been asked. Is there a commercial single out for "Burning my soul", if yes, does it include any new songs like the "Hollow years- single" in europe?

Pat Metheny is a God. Ask any guitar player. :) He's only won five Grammys for best jazz album of the year. And his work does have common ground with prog, since early jazz/fusion, i.e. Miles Davis, Weather Report, was a heavy influence for a lot of early progsters. For a good starting place, check out the 1995 live album, "The Road to You", which has some of his best later works.

Hi all Jammers,
This is my first post to the list. I just wanted to tell everyone that I have scanned my cd covers for all 5 DT albums and put them on my website. These are not just regular covers as all of them are autographed by the members of DT. I got them autographed on October 29th when I saw them in Toronto. That was a special day as Dream Theater also played a 25 minute acoustic set in our downtown HMV, which was where I got the autographs. I was lucky since the security stressed that you were only allowed to get one autograph but I was near the end of the line and showed the group all my Cd covers so they signed them all. The songs played live in the acoustic setting were: Take Away my Pain, Silent Man, Hollow Years, and a small Jam. I also have scanned my ticket for the show and its on my website. I will post the songs that they played in concert in order:
Lines in the Sand Under a Glass Moon Burning My Soul Voices Take Away My Pain The Mirror/Puppies on Acid Crimson Sunset/Innocence Just Let Me Breathe Peruvian Skies Pull Me Under Scarred Ytse Jam w/drum solo New Millenium Inevitable Summer/Crimson Sunset Metropolis Part 1 Damage Inc riff
I have all this stuff on my website, so if you would like to trade for other rarities please check it out at: http://members.octonline.com/terabyte/an320.htm
I would like to know where I can download some .MP3 files from the web, can someone email me some sites that have heavy metal material on there, thanks.
Thanks all and have a great weekend.

These "many people" probably have the same problem most of the jammers have: they are American, and as such fail to notice anything happening in Europe. No hard feelings, but you guys miss an awful lot of brilliant music. Progressive rock started in the end of the 1960s with Pink Floyd and Genesis and Yes and ELP, when for musicians in America Vietnam and drugs and all that hippie craze was more essential than music itself. I admit, I discovered Dream Theater, Rush and Fates Warning a bit too late (actually, as for Fates Warning, I owe this to the Ytsejam); I hope you will feel the same joy, if you try out modern European prog-metal. I don't have an idea how easy is to get hold of CDs of obscure European bands in America, but check out for the label "Nuclear Blast", a German firm, specialized in "ultra-right" metal (like Scandinavian death-metal, which turns more and more progressive each year), gothic and atmospheric metal. BTW, I have the feeling that "gothic" has a different meaning in Europe and in the USA. Here it is mostly a kind of metal, not some insane black-wearing post-punk electroid-heads I couldn't believe my ears what a guy from Fates Warning (I can't remember his name, I wasn't much of their fan back then) said in an interview for a local radioshow. He was asked what young bands did he like in Europe (he was in Europe at the time), and he quoted Paradise Lost. The guy who was taking the interview was at least as surprised as me, and explained him Paradise Lost are a band with maybe a decade of history and five albums behind them; the one from Fates Warning said "Oh really, they are unknown in the states." Anyway, trust him: Paradise Lost are a great example of a ex-death-metal band turning to gothic/progressive metal. Try also Amorphis, which play something of Finnish folk metal, their English equivalent Skyclad, or a some of the wonderful metal-with-a-female-vocal bands like The Gathering (Netherlands), Left Hand Solution (Norway, I think), or especially The Gallery (Germany). I got the first album of The Gallery a month ago and still can't believe my ears. I haven't enjoyed anything this much since ACoS. (if you can't find it in the stores, search for "The Gallery" in the UBL; it will point you to their recording company's Web page; the company's called "Hall of Sermon").
Anyway, try what's happening on our side of the Atlantic. You'll like it. Assen

IMHO, Edge Of Thorns is so pop it makes Bon Jovi seem like Beethoven, but the new album, "The Rise of Magellan", is as rich and complex as DWD.
BTW, if you like James Hatfield, check out the band Darkseed from Germany. It sounds like James Hatfield sings with his sister, but the music is very progressive.

He presses D on the griff and strumms four times ( up/down/up/down), then presses D# and strumms for times etc. The next string is played in the reverse direction; it looks like a glissando, and it SOUNDS like a glissando, but if you look at the soundtrack image, say on a wave editor, it looks allright.

Well, you were lucky. I started with "Relayer" and "Close to the Edge", and when I heard "90125" I was disgusted. I learned to like it, or at least not to hate it too much. Yes did the same Rush and Genesis did in the 80s - started playing almost disco music.
> I think in certain ways Yes and DT are much alike. That's exactly what I'm afraid of. Falling Into Infinity bears the same signs as Tormato - Yes's first shift towards the commercial swamp they needed 10 years to get out of. The songs are shorter, the ideas - not fully exploited, the vocals are simple and melodic.
>I think it would probably be one of the most >challenging covers DT could ever try (definitely Gates -- it is just >SICK!!!) That's just my opinion, though! :) I've heard that the Magna Carta recording company (Magellan, Shadow Gallery) did a "Tribute to Yes" CD called "Tales of YESterday"; the only thing I've heard from it are 20 second from Magellan'd rendition of "Don't Kill the Whale" on RealAudio, but it was awesome. Go get it, if you can; I'm out of this option.
>Buy some of their earlier works >like: The Yes Album, Fragile, Close To The Edge, TFTO, Relayer. Tales From Topographic Oceans is not for the faint of heart; try Fragile and The Yes Album first. TFTO is a deeply moving, religious work (albeit what kind of religion this is, I don't know). I remember how Yes sounded to me, before I got into them: an enormous, seemingly amorphous, incomprehensible mass of sounds. Believe me, this holds true even for ears used to things like 'Metropolis' or 'APSoG'. Don't spoil the fun with jumping straight into TFTO. You'll appreciate it later.
