Well, I wouldn't want to brag about it,
but my favorite radio show, 'Zone 967' on Tangra in Sofia,
which is specialized in heavy and progressive rock,
did a 50-minute presentation of FII, complete with
history of the band, samples from earlier albums and all.

My car was broken into yesterday. My CD player along w/ my Japanese FII
and my <autographed> Japanese Awake CDs <with both 3" CDs> were stolen.
My Rush Test For Echo CD and my Bryn Terfel sings Handel Arias CD were
also taken.
I can get a new CD player, new Rush and Terfel CDs, and even a new
Japanese FII, but the odds of me getting a Japanese Awake <much less
autographed> are slim to none. I hate people. They took the CD player,
but they didn't take the manual for it which was in the console which was
opened. they also didn't take the $20 bill that was sitting in the open
ashtray.
If anyone knows where I can score a Japanese FII or a Japanese Awake
<please, please> lemme know. Float me an email or something.

I'll tend to go along with what Ivan says about Tales, though. It was my
favorite Yes album for quite a while in the 70's, duking it out with
Relayer. The jam at the end of Side 1 (oops, showing my age again :)...
at the end of The Revealing Science of G*D shows how far ahead in the
symphonic progressive rock arena these guys were 20+ years ago.
My suggestion is the same as would be for most any group. Experience it
the way it was experienced in real-time: chronologically. This way one
can understand the development of the band without any pre-conceived
notions of sounds.
Interesting thing on the concept of FII moving towards where Yes did
with Tormato. They may have gotten into some things in the 80's that you
didn't like, but I was just so fucking happy when I heard that they were
getting back together. There was a real hole in my musical life there
for a few years.
I see Yes (and DT) and moving neither towards nor away from any such
thing (life's a journey not a destinaion, right?). They were/are always
everywhere :) Look at YES' Fragile: It was one of their first album,
right? Contains some very mainstream pop rock sounding stuff. Then they
follow it up with CttE???? The title track starts out about as far away
from pop as you can get, then a very accessible melody emergeres.
Look at DT I&W: some very popular sounding stuff on there
(PMU,LSOAD,IF), and some very progressive stuff (no need to mention
it:). Then Awake comes out and people whine about the loss of prog? Put
Eromotomania on and shut the fuck up ;)

AFAIK they haven't been mailed out yet, I am expecting mine to
arrive later this week/early next week.
Any disc that isn't going to be available in retail outlets
is of course going to be rare. With only one disc per fan club member too.

Ok, since ppl keep talking about this, i might as well clear my name.
First of all, if i ever try to like something just to 'fit in the
crowd', please just shoot me and get my life over with:)
I really dont give a lardball about 80% of the bands ppl on this list
rave about... but there's something about Fates that doesnt let me
give up on them; and i have no idea what it is. And i guess thats
what i'm trying to find out. That last thread gave me some
interesting points of view that i might apply next time i feel like
listening to APSOG.
and now for some DTC...now every time i listen to PS, i get this
really cool idea in my head: after the last chorus, they could stop
the music, and JLB would sing (with his patented sneer, and an octave
higher than usual) "POOOOOOOOOR VANEEESAAAA". ..and then they
go into the crunchy riff...
i would enjoy that,

Just a quick warning to anyone who is thinking of buying Bozzio,
Levins, Stevens. I saw them mentioned on tehe jam yesterday. ONLY buy this
is you are a big fan of one of the members and are a collector. The music
is very impressive for rough live jams and I know that it is to showcase
their jamming ability but after teh awe of their ability wore off, I
started to HATE this disk. It even says in the linear notes that its sole
intention was to make money for Bozzio to last him through the winter. The
"songs" are terrible, the one exception being track two. If you like
listening to your friend's garage band jamming, you'll love this. If
people just meandering about in (sometimes) the same key, pass this one up
for some real music.
As to the dude who said that EOT is Pop, WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU SMOKING??!!! ;-)
While I do agree that it is not as heavy as say, Korn or Sepultura and it
is very polished and cohesive sounding, but it is NOT pop. It does have a
certain accessability due to Zak's purrrrrfect voice and Chris's Randy
Rhoad's style it does have moments a heavyness. Imho, EOT is Sava's best
album. I started my Sava experience with DWD becuase I heard so much good
stuff about it on teh jam but when I got it I felt somewhat let down.
Ironically, I started my Echolyn experience because of all teh negative
exposure on the jam. I didn't see how any band could be that bad.
(Echolyn is now my favorite band).
I felt let down on DWD becuae teh lyrics were fantastic, the story
was great (I cried the first time I listened to it while reading the
lyrics), the vocals were great (although there are not enough of them, and
there are some good songs such as One Child, Not what you see, and of
course Christmas Eve 12/24, BUT there are also some VERY bad songs such as
the entire first half of the disk, excluding "I Am" (Jon should have
stopped singing years ago tho, man does he suck). I usually skip Overture
(most useless piece of musical exposition I have ever heard), Sarajevo (I
found excrement to hold my attention longer), This is the time (yawn and it
doesn't quite fit the story either), Starlight (bleech), Doesn't matter
anyway (give Jon the hook, keep his butt planted onthe keys) and DWD
(boring, semi-thrash metal, if I want to hear REAL thrash I'll listen to
Megadeth). The other songs are great, but 50% of ther album sucks.
EOT is the most well-crafted of all the Sava albums that I have.
The keys are 1000& times better than they are on DWD. On the latter disk,
Jon simply doubles the guitar #1, which is doubling guitar #2 to be really
interesting. On EOT, the keys are a seperate contrapuntal instrument and
is great Keyboard metal. There aer much better vocals on EOT because Zak
simply gets to sing more (and Jon doesn't). I believe the songs are much
better on Eot as weel. Each one can stand on their own. Try seperating
Overture or starlight from DWD and you get two crappy songs, pull Follow
Me, Conversation Piece, or Damien from EOT thorns adn you get some great
music. I think the problem is Chriss Caffrey wrote all of the guitar for
DWD and the guy just isn't good. I'm sure that the Wake of Magellan will
be better becausePitrelli will have a bigger share of song-writing and the
guy is incredible (listen to him on Trans-Siberian Orchestra).

I must agree about Jon's voice, I bought 'Streets' and hated it because of
the vocals.
When found out that they got a 'proper' singer and decided to give them
another chance.
I like DWD, the guitar leads are IMO only average, on tWoM the guitar
palying is much
better, the only thing that lets it down is the production, I think they
should try someone
else to next time, Paul O'Neil I know is a sort of 'unofficial band member'
but IMO they
need to progress and use someone else, I think they are too 'familiar'
with each other.

Now, for something completely different, do you people into Jazz
know of a pianist called Thelonius Monk?? Any comments on his works? I
heard that he did something with John Coltrane. I also don't know John
Coltrane, but he is very famous. I don't know if he is famous for good or
bad reasons (Steve Vai vs. Kurt Nobrain).

Hey all,
Just a quick note. While out distributing Fates flyers in Houston I decided to cruise by The Abyss (my how the name fits) and see if any flyers had been put there yet. There were four or five big poster flyers on the outside of the place advertising the show.
These posters say the show starts at 8 p.m. The lineup will be local band Train of Thought, Divine Regale and then Fates Warning. I'll probably make it out there around 8 or 9. I'll be wearing a Touring Into Infinity shirt.

Don't know of any specific, but you can find a lot of them if you use Altavista with the following search: +slayer +raining +blood +mp3. You'll receive a huge list of homepages with links to MP3 files, not only Slayer (most of these pages carry all the MP3 files that their authors could find and it is not difficult to have both Slayer and Beethoven on the same list).
