A few things to say!

Drema theater have been one of my favorite bands for some 5 years now.
5 years because that was when I discovered them.

In the UK it is very difficult to discover new music; but when I heard
DT I HIT THE JACKPOT.

I&W and Awake have to be the most exciting, musically inspired, diverse
and imaginative albums I have ever heard. For me, the musicianship is
absolutely outstanding.

SOME THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW - for the rest of this message to make sense.
I am a musician (guitars, bass, keyboards and drums).
I am totally blind (only mentioned 'coz it's relevant later!)
I listen to any kind of music - although it does have to be said I'm
mostly in to rock and blues with some jazz etc....you get the idea.

I think myy appreciation of DT's musicianship is the key to my devotion
to this band. I also think that the musicianship and complexity of music
is the reason why they get slated by the music press and some DJs etc.
It is simply that DT are on a different dimension to these guys!

GRAHAM - right on, the Forum, London, 19th December.
I was there, I don't know if you happen to see a couple of guys with
white sticks (for the blind) - I was one of them.
Kerrang can fuck right off - the above comment applies - Kerrang should
stick to reviewing sad metal bands with less musical tallent than JP's
linky or one of MP's drum sticks.

Because I couldn't see, I hadn't realized at the beginning of the Forum
concert that MP had been freaking out. It is only after reading the
jam that I now know! Graham's right though, DT were spot on, everyone
in the band seemed to come alive towards the end of LItS and it got better
and better. Mike's drum solo was......you really can't say, you just HAD
to be there. I truly think the band enjoyed the gig too. Maybe not at
first, but after a couple of tracks they realized they had an appreciative
audience - you can make that 1999 letters outstanding to Kerrang!

FII - well....I have to say I think this album's a bit weak. This is only
my opion, of course, but LItS is pretty good and Peruvian Skies is great;
and there are a few other moments of inspiration and outstanding
musicianship. But overall, after having called the CD store every day
for two weeks to check whether FII had arived yet, I was disappointed.
It's still a good album, but compared to I&W and Awake.......nope.
I guess a band has to experiment, move on, make money! I believe DT's
musical genius will win through and we'll get more great stuff in the
future.

NOW THEN
Finally, after having read the ytsejam for some weeks now (I only discovered
it recently), I have to say that I am really pissed off.
Attempts at deep sarcasm by some of our US friends are really quite
un-necessary and really rather pathetic examples of this most subtle of arts.
Comments like "shove it up your ass" and "you mean you didn't know how
many fillings James has? well you can't be a DT fan" are seriously
idiotic. Cheap shots like that impress no-one. If the best you can do is
insult people over the net then you must have an infinitesimally small
penis. I don't know all the TLAs and FFLAs (three-letter-acronyms and
fucking-four-letter-acronyms), now do I know whether DT have ever played
on a sailing barge floating 1937 miles off the coast of California,
nor do I know John Petrucci's birthdate - or probably how to spell hjis
name - but the point is - it doesn't make me any less of a DT fan or
human being - which amounts to the same thing!

So, come on guys, let's live and let live and talk about DT and discuss
points rather than scoring them. - ok, off my soap box!

last thing, any UK jammmers know how I can get some bootlegs in Britain?
Mail me, even if just to say "hi", and discuss the Forum gig some more!
and other things.

Bye for and keep on rockin',

Al.

Hi all

looks like the great Farts Waiting thread is dying down slowly - my down
key has taken a good bashing in the last week.

Several people have written to me asking for the address of the really nasty,
but very accurate article about MTV that I posed recently. Here it is for your enjoyment:

http://www.fitshaced.com/3/mtv.html

The next address is for anybody who, like myself, doesn't have anything
good to say about Yanni:

http://www.theonion.com/onion3219/index3219.html

(the article about Yes in the archives is also well worth reading).

My plan to get rich next year: I'm forming a satanic boy band that will go
under the name of Marilyn Hanson.

Question: which song does James LaBrie sing after eating a Bombay
Vindaloo? Buring My Arsehole.

stay safe and happy listening

Hi Jammers,
this might seem unusual, but a friend of mine is expecting an offspring
who might turn out to realy become a DT-child! (compared to parent's
obsession...)

We were discussing the topic 'name' a while ago.
Many Marillion fans apparently named their daughters Kayleegh (or so?).
I was just wondering if there's a similar tendency among DT-fans?
Probably neither Anna Lee, Vanessa, Eve?
Cheers

OUCH! ... sorry, just pinched myself v.hard.

Those of you from across the Atlantic probably don't appreciate quite
how unexpected it is when DT are even mentioned in Kerrang -
despite the fact that this magazine is supposed to be THE rock /
metal mag in the UK - but to read this... well, maybe things are
changing. We can hope.

On a serious note, though, you don't know how lucky you are to have
local radio in the US. Having Jazz stations, Rap stations, Rock
stations is soooo good for music in general. I mean I have heard
countless people describe hearing DT in the car etc.

Maybe it's only occasionally, but the point is that because all our
media is national, the whole country is like eMpTyV. The same
newspaper article tells most of the country the same story ( this
scares me to death) and in the same way, national radio stations tell
people what to listen to ( it's worth noting that Oasis' s huge
popularity in the UK was created almost single-handedly by the
morning DJ on BBC Radio 1 - Chris Evans - consistantly playing them
every morning for about 6 months, to aprox 11 million people (thats
aprox 1/2 of the record-buying public in England)).

So there are only two ways to get media coverage ( radio or TV ) in
England right now:

1. Already be able to pull massive ratings

or,

2. Have the record company's marketing dept. buy your way onto
breakfast TV and chat show slots. Usually groups of this nature are
introduced along the lines of

" Now, with the single from their HIT album -
' We wrote this (honest) ' - to be released next Monday
         - everyone's talking about them, they're going to be huge,
the new boyband ' Five (tossers) ! '

I don't know how much it costs to get a top TV celeb. to introduce
you this way, but one thing's for sure, DT's label aren't about to
start paying, and thank god for that. It just means that in this
current climate, we'll never hear much about DT, as there are much
better ways for record producers to make money. When you can buy a
piece of everyone in England's mind (well, most people...), and place
your puppet there (plenty of empty space), to control their wallets,
where's the point in investing in musicians?, in music?, in art?
Waste of money.

There.

Adrian.

I just ordered the hollow years single from Music Boulevard
(www.musicblvd.com). The CD was 10.99 with 1.00 shipping so it came out to
be like 12.75 or something like that. I also picked up Symphony X DWoT so
I am eagerly waiting for both. I have found that Music Boulevard has lower
prices than CDnow (generally around 2 dollars) and I have gotten the same
service if not better. I usually get domestic CD's within a couple of days
and imports in about a week!

Just thought everyone would like to know.
By the way The TSO CD kicks ass.

It is really amusing when someone, who can't get their own act in gear,

Hello all,

Sorry for the NDTC, but earlier somebody mentioned about the new
MK film and soundtrack.

I really enjoyed the first film and have both of the soundtracks.

Is the new film any good, comparable to the first - has it done
well in the States? Is the new soundtrack as good as the first
releases.

Thanks for your help in advance.

I think whether you prefer Jon or Zack depends on what album you got into
the band from. I dont think I had ever heard a Savatage song until eMpTyV
played Edge of Thorns on Headbanger's ball. That song just grabbed me so
I bought the EoT cd. I have since gotten all the Zack era cds and a
couple of Jon Oliva cds (Streets, Fight For The Rock) and Jon's voice
just doesn't do much for me.

unreleased songs Raise The Knife, The Way it Used to Be, Where Are You Know,
and any other songs that didn't make the FII cut. I heard these songs twice
now in between BW and DT, and I really want these songs. If anyone has or
knows where to get these, I would love to do business. Privately email me on
this matter because I don't want to take up valuable "Top 10 Space" for other
jammers. Oh, I do have the Japanese version with Speak to Me so I don't need
that song. Even a cassette recording would be cool. Thanx
