    >>"Divine wings of tragedy" is such an elaborate, complicated mass
    >>of sounds, that need at least one weak just to get used to. But it's worth.
    >
    >
    >It sounds pretty good, I'll give you that, but they cannot write good
    >lyrics. They tell instead of showing. Bad sign.

Well, I've never cared much about ANY lyrics... You can't have all good
things at once. Want poetry, read poetry. Want music, get some music.
And DWOT is definitely Music with a "M".

And when you finally get to like a piece of lyrics... bam! Here's what happens:

    >The Wintery Skies
    >(With many apologies to Mr. Petrucci)
    >
    >There, there she sits
    >I swear, the wind'll topple that poor thing
...with NO apologies to Nicole. See, it's not funny to anyone but
you and your husband, it's not poetic, it's... simply nothing. Noise.

Some idiot had actually constructed a whole bloody PAGE full of DT parodies...

    >your sig is too long. cut it.

This hold true for most of you, actually...
    Here's how this list goes:
    20% sigs
20% reports from concerts that piss me off because I'll hardly ever attend one
(I doubt DT's tour managers even know Eastern Europe exists)
    20% discussion of drumsticks
20% "I heard DT on the radio, oh joyous hour!"
I get the feeling 80% of the subscribers read 20% of the content...

    Back to SX again:
    >Okay, I've got to object here. I think Russell Allen's got one of the
    >strongest and most charismatic voices in prog metal today. He reminds me
    >quite a bit of Ronnie James Dio at times, tone-wise, but sings with a
    >style all his own.
I admit, it was my fault I commented the album after hearing it <10 times.
Now that I have spent my third pair of walkman cells on the tape, I begin
    to get used to him.
See, I grew up on Jon Anderson and Fish, so the "classical metal voice"
like Dio or Bruce Dickinson never appealed to me. I remember I had major
difficulties getting thru my dislike of the vocals of QR to appreciate the music.
    Same story with SX.

I just don't understand the fuss about "The Accolade". The title piece,
DWOT, together with Candlelight Fantasia, just eclipses everything else
    on this album IMO.

            I'd recommend getting Marillion's "Misplaced Childhood". It's
my favorite Marillion CD (though I also like "Clutching at Straws"
    very much).
As for how it compares to "Season's End", it's pretty different.
First, the vocalist is different. I personally prefer the vocalist
on "Misplaced Childhood" because he has a bit more agressive of a
style, but they are both good. Also, the music on "Season's End" is
a bit more pop (song oriented) in style while the "Misplaced Childhood"
has a lyrical and musical theme running throughout.
I'd say definitely try "Misplaced Childhood" if you get a
    chance.

It's slow, but they're getting some commercial recognition a little at a

haha, well, I didnt think many would. But I do see what you are saying about the
production of ABOTW. It just seems mufled, and Im looking forward to a fatter sound
on Wounded, once I get my hands on it. I cant help but hear a similarity between Mae
Dae and Hells Kitchen though. Not in terms of melody, but how each is thrown into
the middle of the album as an instrumental, to stand by itself. Which i believe it
    does very well.

Well, yeah, I see what youre saying. But I just LOVE the groove of some of those
songs on there. As far as quality dancing music, you cant go wrong with that CD. I
never said it took music as we knew it at the time to a new level, but it sure is fun
music to listen to. Kinda makes me wish I was a teenager during the 70's instead of
    the 90's...hehe : )

Allright, finally 18 today. Now I can go to the HoB shows...

Oddly enough, the first time I heard enchant's Blueprint of the world, I

I sent them 20 bucks for a tee shirt in August. They wrote me in November saying that it was out of stock, and to e-mail them telling if it was ok to ship a different tee. I said "ok" and haven't heard from them since. If you can't run a fucking mail order place, then don't! We really should bring it to the bands attention.

Hey man, if you don't like it, leave. Sorry this list isn't good enough for ya. Remember, it's the BitchyJam :) About your ranting...I love reading everyone's different sig files. It shows the personalities behind the names. I like the reports from concerts because I like to hear what the band is doing. For instance, I've never seen Nightmare Cinema, but I think it's very cool that DT does it. I can't wait to see it live. I like the talk about drumsticks, amps, guitars, basses, keyboards, computers, etc., because it helps shape my own opinions on those products. I wouldn't have such a dear affection for Mesa amplifiers if I hadn't originally heard such praises from list members, and Ibanez and Jackson guitars are incredible!! And you're right, Ivan, 80% of the subscribers to this list read 20% of the content, because assholes like you and I clog up the other 80%.

    Whoooah! Urrghh!!!

As a subscriber to 'Your Majesty' as well as Images and Words', it looks like I'm going to end up with 2 Christmas CDs!! The CD from France arrived this morning - (Thanks Stephane!!!) for the rapid service. Unfortunately, I have to say that I'm a little bit disappointed with the CD contents.

What we got was a 'Making of FII' which is interesting from the point of view of the development of the music but which is not something that you can slap on the 'death deck' and listen too. I'd have been much happier to get a shorter CD with a few rare (and complete) recordings than a full-length CD of outtakes and snippets of work in the studio. No doubt it will be really interesting to some of the fans - but I'm not one of them.

I can see EastWest's point of view in wanting the unreleased material we already know about to go out as B-sides of future singles, but I can't help feeling a little let down by the CD contents. The wilder claims regarding the contents of the CD were slapped down in no uncertain way by Neil Elliot, so I suppose we can't complain that we were misled over the contents. I still think that the Fan club is good value for money and have no complaints over the service we get in the UK.

No complaints either about the artwork for the Christmas CD - Denis Schoen and Stephan B have done a great job there.

I have a feeling that I'm not going to be the only one who's going to be disappointed!

    Hi, there.

Now it seems that many people will be receiving the CDs and I'd *really* love to hear your opinions on the material (also, a tracklist is welcome).

But please, *do* remember to put some spoilers, since many people would like to keep it as a surprise as I understand it. Please, respect those people, but also keep us who can't wait for it knowing more about it.

And please *do* continue to post reviews of the shows. I'm very interested to hear what you have to talk about (and remember: only a small part of the members of this list is voicing their opinions, but many others are also interested in reviews).

    Thank you very much, Roger...

P.S.: Do you people like classical guitar? If yes, then check out Manuel Barrueco!!!! I bought a 3CD set and I'm really impressed to hear it. I'll post a review of this set, together with my review of Cynic's "Focus".

Actually it is. It happens every winter and summer for the same reason: The people on the list who are at school go home and lose their internet access (at least temporarily). You see a bunch of cranky jammers around May (finals), then the list tails off until September, more cranky jammers in December (more finals), then a short dry span until the middle of January or so.

I recently bought Carved in Stone because it has been highly spoken of by many jammers. What I can initially say is that the keyboard player kicks strong ass. I think some of it sounds like WDADU. I think they have too much of a "cheesey" metal sound. They are indeed highly talented. I told my girlfriend (a recent DT convert, man that took work) that they sound like a "generic Dream Theater." She actually got pissed off, and she said "How can you even put this shit in the same sentence with DT" I couldn't help smiling and laughing at the comment. After what it took to get her to into DT I'm not even gonna put out the effort for SG. Maybe it will grow on me. Speaking of growing.... 3 songs that a strongly growing to my surprise.. JLMB after seeing live takes on a new meaning and kicks ass, PS.... I love how it goes from a Pink Floyd type sound into a Metallica sound, but what really makes the song for me is that changeover into the heavier part. It's simply amazing. And believe it or not but Anna Lee is growing on me. It sounds like something on Easy 101 until we meet Mister Portnoy's drums. kinda comical I've come to the conclusion that You Not Me is hopeless and probably the worst song in DT history, but if it was a song by anyone else I might actually like it.

Me and my holmes Nicky will be attending the show this friday. Look for the dude with the "Big Perm" (I'm really quite gentle, though; nice and soft, all cuddly-like). I'll probably be in...oh I don't know, just come say hello. Looking forward to seeing some familiar faces. It was rather bizarre. Over the summer at a Rush show up at Great Woods near Boston, I knew that Skadz and D-Man (among other Jammers) would be in attendence, but I couldn't find them for the life of me. After a furious hunt-for-Jammers, I then went to my seat which was situated fairly close to the stage and off to the side. Well, I look off diagonally into the distance to where the grass seats began, and I faintly noticed four guys just hangin out along the railing. As I had met these two guys the previous summer (JP clinic), I knew what to look for, as they say. It was really quite a distance to where these guys were, but I said WTF and darted the length and width of the entire venue to see what the dilly was. Sure enough, along with D-Man and Skadz was Jon P and Brian or Matt (sorry) I believe it was. It was interesting because I had met Brian or Matt outside the Rush show in Albany the previous October. Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose. A true YtseMoment if I've ever heard of one.

Anyways, I'm so damn ready for these two shows coming up in tha NY Metro!! All I want is my Trail of Tears and I can die happy. Is this really too much to ask for now? Maybe a Christmas CD would be nice as well, but we can't expect too much all-at-once these days now, can we?? :)

A healthy, happy, prosperous, and prog-filled new year to all (with high hopes of some live Rush, live Fatez, a Metropolis 2, an Ozric Tentacles US Tour, some Liquid Tension, and material from ex-Cynic members thrown in there as well). Man, am I a fucking greedy SOB. :)

And finally I must send Big Ups, French Fries, and Butter Pecan-Flavored Maple Syrup to RTG (in tha place to be-- God, it's been one hell of a trip, hee hee), Matty Mo, and Scott H if they happen to be around these parts. If not...well...I say we go catch the Mofo's. Its all their fault anyways. I just sit back and read French Existentialist Lit while they do all the gallivanting. While I'm on the French Existentialist tip, the books and essays I've read this year by Sartre and Camus have absolutely changed my life. I highly suggest picking some up on your next trip to the bookstore. No Exit by Sartre is especially mindwrenching.

Off to Dream (Theater that is)...
