would make an excellent venue for Dream Theater to play in. Mike wouldn't even
have to bring his drum stool (stool - geddit, geddit). Might be some complaints
about the shit sound though.
And Jethro Tull didn't win the Grammy for best metal album - this is getting
habit forming. Talking of meaningless awards, I find the attitude of lots of
people towards these things quite amusing - they would go ape-shit if their
favourite band actually won one of these tin-pot trophies, but in their next
breath they condemn them as being worthless for the simple reason that the
favourite band didn't even get nominated. Hmm, makes you wonder. Now that the
things are even being handed out to corrupt lawyers, I guess it's only a matter
of time before one is awarded to O. J. Simpson's defence team.
Question: what have Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy and the new Dream Theater got
in common?
Answer: none of them really exist. (I still say the new album should be called
Godot. Perhaps it will be like a London bus - you wait ages for one to come, and
then two come along together.)
OK, that's it for another week, I'm off to the cafe to support my local brewery.
Thought for the day: a papal bull is to provide milk for the Pope's flock.
stay safe and happy listening

Does anybody happen to know where the Ethyl Mertz gigs are? The reason why
I ask is about a month ago I was checking out club listings for Rochester,
NY and there was a band slated for playing (at some alternative club)
called Ethyl. I wasn't sure if it was a typo or just some other band going
by the name Ethyl....

It's good to see someone else was watching this, and drawing the same

there right now, so we can't play it" irritates me no end.

The problem with this is that if the Grammys *did* have
a progressive rock category, then the nominees would be
Lawrence Welk, Big Bob and the Blue Toilet Cakes, Venom,
and the soundtrack to an Australian Aborigine documentary....

I know at least one other jammer who has a prog rock/metal radio show and I am asking for input from anyone who has experience in this area. The college station here is pleading for volunteer DJ's for the station. There is a fair interest in rock and metal around here (N. Colorado) and I think a prog rock/metal show would be worthwhile. I am thinking of checking into it but I have no experience in radio and I may be completely off the mark. I do have a huge CD collection (with many of the essentials IMO) and a British accent (usually an advantage in the USA - say no more! say no more!!!) and I would be willing to give the graveyard shift a try once a week. Any tips on approaching this??

I am DISGUSTED with the elitism, ignorance, and narcissism of the Grammys and the entire music industry!!
These feelings amplified by the Turning Point (ABC TV, 27 Feb) segment called "So You Wanna Be a Rock 'n' Roll Star?" on the box last night. It was a very good piece about making-it/failing-it in the music business. As a non-musician but a huge fan of music (pure and undefiled by corporate USA) I really feel for those who struggle against such odds. Talent is apparently nonessential while crooked business rules and money talks.
To you guys in great new bands like CLOCKWORK, THE QUIET ROOM, POWER OF OMENS, and PSYCO DRAMA (and others, you know who you are!) I send my best wishes and undying pledge of support in the face of such universal abuse of the art of modern music by the "music industry".
_sorry_ to vent about this but I am really fed up! I hope DT get into the studio so that at least one band that has supposedly "made it" can thrill our ears. And in the meantime bring on QUEENSRYCHE - for better or worse!
Thanks for listening.

It's been a little while since I've posted....I was just wondering if anyone IS or KNOWS OF talented bassists and/or keyboardists located in and around Northern California (Bay Area and Central Valley) that is interested in joining an intermediate level progressive rock band from Stockton/Manteca, Ca. The overall sound of the project is akin to the answer of the perplexing question: "What if somebody as weirdly talented and 'loose' as Steve Vai guitarly fronted a band that produces Dream Theater-ish prog grooves?" We don't know either, but it shouldn't sound like Altura, Lemur Voice, or pretty much anything like that. Has it even been done? Probably, but we haven't heard it hear. I don't see why DT doesn't just release a double album. Somebody told me the record company wouldn't let them. The way I see it is... most or all DT fans are gonna buys the CD whether it is a double or not, so why not release a double and not have to scrap any songs!

Cool! I'm going there to see them there tonight as well. I'll be wearing my Ytsejam t-shirt (the new one), so if you spot me, come chat with me. I've always dreamed of seeing DT play at the Wallace Civic Center because it's only 15 minutes from my house. It's an old hockey rink, so the acoustics suck (because of it's oval shape).

OK. I am back on Ytsejam with a new internet account. If anybody wants to talk, try me at damon@shell.monmouth.com. My hawwkmail account is basically dead, if you send me mail there, it will go through, but ... I probably won't check it vfrequently. Any news on the new album? I read something on alt.music.dreamtheater that said something like the record company won't let them record? The official Dream Theaterweb site, http://www.rsabbs.com/dt doesn't show me anything, probably because of you fancy Netscape bastards and your graphics that slow the web down too much, poor me who has to use lynx, not that that is bad. Anyway, in addition, I need Chad, finneus Gauge's manager to email me again with his address. In the process of transferring files to my new account, some files got mauled, probably by a Green Day virus or something, (note, that was a joke, don't take it seriously). So, can Chad, or maybe Ghost, his alias, email me again? Thanks, and I will be around, trust me.

Test For Echo tour dates
Here's some much awaited news about the upcoming Rush summer tour. Straight from my "Ike-Hotline" as I like to call it.
Rush will start their summer portion of the TFE tour in May. They will tour for about 3 1/2 weeks and then take a break, then come back again in June for another 3 1/2 weeks of shows.
The June dates will start with St. Louis (June 6th), and the last date of the tour will be in Ottawa (July 1st). It could very well be the last Rush show for a LONG LONG time.
Best Regards...

I finally got WDADU and wanted to comment. First, when did Yngwie, Rush, and Metalica get together and make an albom? Seriously, it's like all those people got together and had even better chops. My God!!! JM is a closet shredder! CD's voice isn't wonderful, but it's not as terrible as some of you have made it out to be. He's no KJLB, but who is. For God's sake, KJLB isn't even KJLB because now he's JLB. Hmm... I love the albom, though. They really are progressive. Now all I need are the Majesty Demos to see the whole story unfold. I don't even think that this albom sounds a little like the modern DT, though. Awake, I&W, and ACOS are much more related. By the way, what are the differences between the original and the re-released version? Also, Conrad Chi made this albom possible for me. He's a good man, found it used and picked it up for me. He's a safe one to trade with. In some ways, I wish he wasn't so I could go on a Pat against Al type rant. Maybe I could just do the opposite and praise the people who've done good by me every Jam? Oh well. Be well. A well. Well well well. Swell. Matt B

Well, as far as I know I'm one of less than 5 North Dakota jammers, which makes the chance of DT actually coming anywhere near here pretty damn slim. But, here goes anyway:
They could play: The Fargo Dome in Fargo, ND The Aurora in Grand Forks, ND (actually still in the planning phase, but should be done before any tour gets underway - at DT's current rate of recording!) Numerous places in the Minneapolis/St.Paul, MN area.

I don't think so. Metallica sold out two shows at the Center which holds over 20,000 for a concert.
DT's best bet in Philly is the Electric Factory. It's big enough for a few 1000 and it's cool as hell. Sounnds pretty good two.
