Yeah, Kevin mentioned this to me a few days ago. I am trying to get my
hands on it and since I read your review I will be trying harder!!!

Kevin is also working on a new Edwin Dare record. No solid release data as
    of yet.

BTW: Artension is doing quite well in Japan. Go figure!! ;-)

Hey, dude, don't knock it, the guy rocks and you're afraid to admit it in public. You try to curb your fear by suppressing it with anxiety and place a post on the jam like this to reinforce your facade. C'mon Partha, we all know you've got all of Buster Pointdexter and Liberace's abums and listen to them frequently. :) I understand. :)

Heheh, I think Bryan rocks. :P

Heheh... Now THAT is funny. But why'd you wanna do that? Jack London rocks. Especially about the city guy that went on a wilderness fishing trip and got stuck in the middle of nowhere in Alaska and went extremely crazy. I can't remember if he shot himself or froze to death, but it was really cool. I gotta find his book of short stories again. Stephen King must've read em. The Gold Mine one rocked, too. (White Fang wasn't too bad either). Am I even thinking of the same guy? I didn't know he had an album. :P

I own their only cd "Naveed" and it is quite good. The people on this list that hate anything that sounds alternative probably won't like them, but they write some good songs. Interestingly enough, when they opened for Van Halen in Toronto, their guitarist threw in all these solos that aren't on the cd. They were really good! It's a shame he doesn't really solo on the cd, I guess it's just not "cool." Naveed is good, but i would recommend listening to it first.

There are actually many fantastic Canadian bands that recieve no attention in the U.S. Some of them are:

-Rush - ok, that ones easy.

-I Mother Earth - I know lots of people love them on here. But in Canada they are huge! On MuchMusic and the radio all the time!

-The Tea Party - my favorite (next to rush) of the canadian bands. These guys are good! Kind of a led zeppelin-ish sound, except with a baritone singer. On their latest cd "Edges to Twilight" (which is available in the states) the band (a three man band) uses something like 35 instruments over 12 tracks. They get into all this middle eastern stuff. VERY GOOD!@

-The Tragically Hip - I'm not too into them, but these guys are the Pearl Jam of Canada (in terms of fanfare, not music). Their music is pretty good, kind of mellow, laid-back. Their singer goes on some crazy spoken words taht are really intense. Day for Night is pretty good, i don't really like their new one.

Now, if you are interested in Metal bands, than the next two are pretty cool, both from MY HOMETOWN! of Hamilton Ontario!

-Varga - these guys really rock. they thank 'ryche too in their first cd. Kind of industrial metal feel.

-Shallow North Dakota - the band I love to make fun of! They were always played on Loud on MM, and they have a 400 pound singer/drummer. This guy is huge! and he cannot sing for the life of him! If you want to hear hilariously bad music, then this is a good bet (if you can find it).

Of course, Canada also spawned Kevin James LaBrie. Then again, same with Alanis Morisette. :(

How about this mailing list?! F**king Kurt Cobain and Billy Corgan made the list and JOHN PETRUCCI DIDN'T!!!!! They had a prog-rock section, and a virtuoso section, and neither one had Petrucci!!!! They even went so far as to list Kirk Hammett and James Hetfield, two of the biggest metal guitarists of all time, as ONE GUITARIST!!! The only thing that I liked about the top 100 list was that Andres Segovia (sp?) was on it. Why are we paying our subscription money to hear someone's viewpoint? It's all opinion. Most of us guitarists know as much as or more than those so-called experts at Guitar World. There were a ton of incredible guitarists that were left off the list in exchange for alternative pukes who can't play. This issue of Guitar World is just really expensive toilet paper.

    Later,

Peace be with you and God bless,

Thought I'd just clear up this recent talk about the fan club. I do not know where the notion came from that I am not willing to answer questions. As several of you can no doubt testify to over the last few weeks?

If you have ANY problems or questions about stuff, please feel free to drop me a line and I'll endeavour to sort them out as best Ican.

Finally, as a brief update. I have just received a very large new batch of applications from New York this week. So several of you who are/or have been waiting on things for a while, you should be amongst the pile, and things will be sorted, put on the database, and stuff mailed out early next week! Because of the not surprising heavy influx (because of the cd!), we are gonna be out of signed photo's (yeah, they are actually signed and not copies!) for a while. So you will receive stuff (including the cd), but you may have to wait for the photo etc. while new stocks are supplies.

    For now,

    Howdy, peoples

In regards to the thread about the Galactic Cowboys albums, and which one is the best, I've found that I can't stop listening to the debut album (not literally, I suppose I should add... musn't forget these things, lest I get flamed). It's brilliant. The only track that I don't really like incredibly much is Sea of Tranquility.

I can't see what's so brilliant about Space in Your Face, tho, apart from some catchy choruses (You make me smiiiiii-iiiiii-iiiiiiile, etc). Which isn't to say that it's not a fabbo album, mind you. It is.

And Machine Fish was the first one I bought. I was under the impression that they were in the DT vain (vein?), but I was happily mistaken...

    I love GC though... brill...

    OK, Queensryche...

I went into that shop to get that Queensryche boot I mentioned, and IT WAS GONE!!!

Which one of you bought it?? I was all set to get it and everyfing...

Damn... going to have to sulk now...

And who ever got the idea that QR were prog? Or GC for that matter?

    About Rush now...

They didn't get a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Instrumental then? I thought they would, for Limbo, but the whole time-eligibility thingie is wacky with the Grammies... I think their year ends in September or October (correct me if I'm wrong).

Who were the nominees in the Hard Rock and Metal categories?

    Obligatory DTC:

Dream Theater are a very good band. This May should mark my first year as a DT fan.

Also, DT is the main character in the best album of all time, Streets, by Savatage.

And if you're wondering, no, Savatage aren't my favourite band. They are either 3rd or 4th, depending on what mood I'm in. They are in constant battle with GC. Rush are no. 1, then DT, Savatage or GC, then Maiden, Queensryche, Pink Floyd, Yes (settle down, Tempus), King Crimson, KISS, Def Leppard and maybe Lemur Voice.

Please note this was not in list format...

    See yis,

    Musical X thread: King's X, Symphony X, Eternity X, Bush X, Scott X!, Anarchy-X, Letter X, X and Racer X. I'm not really sure if one of 'em counts (Beefquad-X), but still...

How come no one's mantioned MapeX yet? Public Enemy's Terminator X? Dinosaurs like me should've remembered David EsseX also. GrameX (European equivalent of ASCAP) should also be counted.

On the Paul Shortino/Rough Cutt thread:

80's cheese metal band Rough Cutt's vinyl "Wants You" for sale! Any takers?

    >BTW, Rough Cutt have reformed and their live album is available thru >Perris distribution outta Michigan.

    Aarggh.

    I have a suggestion for you/us all:

There's this "Progressive Metal list" somewhere on the 'net. Don't ask me for the URL, I still have no WWW access, but when I last saw it, there was only a fragment of the bands discussed here. Why don't we all make a contribution and give the listkeeper a helping hand. I'm sure the list would get a LOT better if the jammers would make short descriptions with discographies about any prog metal band they desire and email to listkeeper.

That would be a very good move. I've been a subsriber to I&W (the fanzine) since issue 1, and I joined the *new* fan club. How long's that been . . . about 2 years? 3 years?

So far it's cost me a total of 25 pounds (I think), and for that money I've received: 12 (I think) issues of the totally wonderful fanzine 2 tickets to the Ronnie Scott's concert the DT Christmas CD a signed photo an ACOS postcard my name in print (in fanzine #2!)

This really is disgustingly good value for money, don't you think? And I've still got a year to run on my current membership.
