Aye, I've expressed my feelings about Devin, and that's all I have to
say about that. As for YA YO GAK, (chuckle), personally, that's my
favorite track on the CD. The guy I had listen to it at work today
said the same thing, too, thus puzzling me. I thought most people
would hate that. Especially him. (shrug)

OK, instead of Tiny Tim (who passed away, I actually thought he was
kewl), let's get Julian Vai in James' place, then. :)

I had to read this twice before disregarding the flame mail and
getting the full frontal lobotomy. Dislexia sux. :P

Anyway, Today I got a double whammy after a bleary day at work. I
purchased Angra's "Holy Land" and my Superior album came in! (Sorry,
this is an import, not from Noise records)

Bernd, you guys have my blessing. Write something new soon, NOW!
This is the best CD I've heard in a long time. Not at all what I was
expecting, but I was NOT disappointed in the least. Quite aggressive,
    yet passionate. 2 thumbs up!

As for Angra, what's upo with these guys? This is like way kewl, and
it's really weird. It's also not what I was expecting. I thought
this was Testament style stuff. this is way nifty. It'll take a
couple of listens to full engage in it, I think, though.

Much kewlness bestowed upon both. Gotta get the 1st angra, now...

W00h00! I can't wait to get my hands on this one! I've said this before, and I'll say it again. Spock's Beard is the best band to come along this decade. Don't miss these albums. I have _The Light_, and it rarely leaves my CD player.

For the person who saw the info from Magna Carta on Magellan's new CD..well here it is from the horse's mouth.

That info was probably about the re-release of their first 'Hour of Restoration' which is as good if not better than 'Impending Ascension'

Just checked out the DT official web page: http://www.rsabbs.com/dt and they have a tidbit saying that there are rumors floating about that the new album would be released in May:

    > January 21, 1997: Rumors of a May album release.... Management and the band would like everyone one to know that despite any rumors by the press or other sources there is no plan for the band to release the new album in May, or any other date at this time. There is no tenative release date for the album, so any publication or person stating otherwise is wrong. There is no release date at this time. We will post on the page a release date as soon as one becomes available to us from management. <

I am just curious as to how James' autograph pertains in any way to his singing ability. I am a huge fan of his talent, being a singer myself and I fail to make the connection here. Although, if this helps, he signed my Fix shirt at Birch Hill this year and it looks just fine. He definitely wouldn't make it as a doctor!

    Greetings ye 'jamanoids...

Since there seems to be so much emphasis lately on how the 'jam has become pure slop (though it seems to be slowing down a bit now), I thought I'd toss in my opinion.

The 'Jam is probably one of the most useful things I've found on the 'net. Not solely because there's lots of cool DT info (though there is, usually); not solely because there's some neat people here who aren't afraid to express their opinions (though that's true too); and not just because it's more or less uncensored/unmoderated (I despise censorship in all forms).

Why do *I* love the 'Jam so much? Because I've found out about so much cool music from listening to your jabber! :) :)

Here's a partial list: Superior, Lemur Voice, Savatage, Fates Warning, Angra, Stratovarius, Waltari, Nevermore, Spock's Beard, Artension, Eldritch, Helstar, Iced Earth...the list goes on and on. Plus several solo artists or individuals who happen to be particularly talented at their instrument.

Thanks to all who put their musical thoughts here, especially if they're detailed. Keep 'em coming, folks!

And keep the DT content coming, too; a DT-starved 'jammer like myself has to do *something* to while away the months while we wait for the new album....:)

According to my friend which is on the KISS list, 'Dragon Attack' was released in the U.S. today. This means that we won't have to pay import prices, so look around.

During the summer, I saw BECKER's 'Perspective' USED for $7. I passed it up then and bought RIOT's 'Thundersteel' album. I am now kicking myself because of the great reviews that the album has gotten. I will have to pick it up at full price. What label is it on by the way?

some body submitted for our scrutiny:

    >Vox: Ian Gillan (the original screamer, good range, excellent vox control) >Axe: Jeff Beck (some people forget how good this axe slayer is) >Dub: Chris Squire (especially his infamous Rickenbacher sound) >Ski: Jan Hammer (got the speed licks ala Mahavishnu Orchestra) >Rox: Carl Palmer (favorite drum & percussion solos, IMHO)

I was under the impression that 'jan hammer' was the name of a band, and that jordan rudess was the keyboard (ski?!) player... if this is not so, can someone straighten me out?

and knock me one upside the head for not checking him/them out earlier. I've heard it's good stuff.

Hrm. Haven't listened to Thundersteel for what seems like an eternity. I think it's cuz my friend ran off with my tape. :P Pretty good stuff, though. I guess I'll have to order me a CD.

    Hi all

following all this talk about Jason Becker's album "perspectives", I decided to check it out at my local CD store. I didn't buy it. There is certainly some interesting stuff on it, but nothing that really knocked me out. I then wondered (WARNING: heretical question coming) how many people rave about this album because they know of Jason's medical situation. As I said, the album is interesting, I'm sure a lot of Jammers would like it, and there's no way I would say don't buy it. Perhaps it's because I'm not a guitarist. And before you all start accusing me of being a heartless bastard (which is possibly true) let me say that a close friend of mine died last year after suffering from ALS for nearly 20 years.

And if anybody else mentions 'sell out' again, I am willing to personally come round and tattoo the lyrics of Tool's song 'Hooker With A Penis' on that person's butt with a rusty nail (if you haven't heard the song yet, go and listen to it - and the rest of the album Aenima - as soon as possible).

Yeah, I know what you mean. Like when I see someone in a car ahead of me STOP unnecessarily at an intersection because some PEDESTRIAN has decided to casually yet DEFIANTLYcross the street in a crosswalk AGAINST the "don't walk" signal...then all of a sudden instead of being polite the driver just hits the gas and PLOWS 'em down...

As exhilirating as self-appointed street-sweeping (or "zamboni-patrol" depending on where you're from) is, seeing someone else do this never fails to remind me what a truly evil man I am.

(note: the above example was not meant to offend anyone who is not a man. nor was it meant to offend anyone who is not evil. however, if you are one of those bastard walkers who strut like John Travolta in "Staying Alive" all the way across the crosswalk against the DON'T WALK signal as if you have some God-given right slow the traffic of angry motorists in big heavy death-machines YE DESERVE NOTHING MORE THAN TO BE FLUNG TO THE CRATERS OF THE MOON BY THE HANDS OF HE WHO RESPECTS FATHER TIME AND POSSESSES GREAT VELOCITY.)

    > > Anyone know if Shrapnel has any more progmetal artists? > > Cacophony, Racer X, Haji's Kitchen, and Crimeny, to name a few...

Progmetal? Racer X? Racer X Progmetal? Since when does an album of sixteenth notes/beats on all instruments (including the vocals) at 380 beats per minute equal progressive metal?

Actually, forget all that crap. Copy the album onto cassettes and freely pass them out to people on the street.

"Ytse Fuckin' Jam." This sort of language doesn't belong on the list. Very informative and objective. The list is a better place now. Take this foul-mouthed stuff elsewhere. We don't need this. Refer to the FAQ for DT's rules on profanity. Thank you for gracing the list with your tapestry of obscenity, Mr. Merlo. This really doesn't belong on the list. We really don't need this here.

THAAAANK YOU, THANK YOU THANK YOU...... (bows deeply)

    >> From: Eddy M <edrock@connexus.apana.org.au> >> Subject: NDTC - Kirk >> >> Is Kirk Hammett a poofter ??

Whoah. Thesaurus-Man has not heard this word before. Thesaurus-Man is confused...

(note: the above was not meant to offend people who do not own thesauruses. any lack of referential guides on the English language is most likely beyond the control of the speaker/writer due to either financial inadequacies or a simple lack of interest in attaining eloquence and perfection, not to mention a really arrogant/ferocious public image.)

    > OK, apparently this thread is *not* dead. In an attempt to quash all > similar threads at once, here's all the latest gossip: > > Kirk Hammett is gay, but is not involved in the James/Lars arrangement.

So then James and Lars are lovers? But Kirk isn't a part of that deal? That what you're saying, man? What about Jason? Is homophobia the topic of "Until It Sleeps?"

    > Neil Peart and his wife are both gay. They adopted.

You know, if anyone on this mailing list ever decided to redo the theme to "Gilligan's Island..."

    > Kevin Moore has testicular cancer. That's why he has no hair.

So then Joe Satriani and Andre Agassi have been dealt the same cruel hand by that harsh lover we know as Fate...? Geez, first Kevin Moore, now Demi Moore...

    > I was *not* the one that shaved Mike Portnoy's head.

Oh, of course not. It was the Jagermeister. Yeah. I suppose it is also true that people don't kill people, GUNS kill people...

    > "Poofter" is analogous to the N-word on the insult scale, you fucking > blowjob.

But it's alright to call someone a "blowjob," right? Well excuse ME, mister close-minded jerk, but I happen to RESPECT and ENJOY b...

    Nevermind...
