Mail me privately and I'll give you the stupid duh code that gets you
there. I was sick of not finding the totem in Eddie's world (found
it in Scott and Geoff's) so I thought, "They're not stupid enuff to

OK this is waaaay of topix. :) Browsing around for a frisbee for the
mutt in King's I saw these Beast Wars things. Granted they look like
T-Former rip-offs, but maybe that's cuz Transformers was written in
little lettering over the Beast Wars logo. (at least the ones I saw
had that). Also, the other tooys you were thinking of were called
Battle Beasts. You remember, the stupid toys they sold so you could
rub their bellys and make the wood, fire, or water symbol appear? My
little brother collected every one they made and has em tucked away
somewhere now. Damn little shit inherited all my GI Joe guys, too.
I want my Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes back, dammit. :P

    AHHHHH!!!

What album is this? I try to collect everything that Neal Schon
does. The guy is phenominal, imo. I even got that HSAS one he did
with Sammy Hagar a long time ago, and Beyond the Thunder totally
rules. Help me out on this so I can order it ASAP. :)

You know, Red Barchetta is fantastic on WM, but I think that it could
have been better. How? Well, I will always be an admirer of JLB's voice.
Unfortunately, on RB, his voice is saturated with a rich chorus effect.
I think. James' vocals sound wonderful to me without effects, so the
processing on RB kind of turned me off. I would've rather listened to
James sing straight through an SM58, because he is in command of all the
little things that make a voice sound good. He doesn't need electronic FX to
cover up any shortcomings with his voice. And he's a nice guy, too:)

Hats off to this man. Anyone else seen Rush in New Orleans besides

OK, this Ytsejammer is spreading his butter quite thin. I have a job
broadcasting basketball games live on the radio (no chance for DT, but I make a
comment whenever the score is 21-12, believe me:). I also accepted
the position of Music Director for the local community theater groups
spring musical. And I was the snare drum judge at the All-State Band
auditions last weekend. Busy-ness isn't necessarily a virtue....

And I loaned my CD copy of Awake to a friend of mine a week ago. She

    H'llo,

I have a copy of "Dimensions" by Believer in my hands right now and they
were on R.E.X. with distribution through Roadracer/Roadrunner Records.
    It's a very interesting album. My atheist-goth-s&m-industrial-music-loving
roommate was jamming to it until I told him to listen to the lyrics.

    Hi

Well, the time has come to pack my bags and move on to other things.

I thank you all for some, shall I say, 'interesting' topics of conversation,
most of which I did not contribute to (apart from the occasional sarcastic
comment which went largely ignored, but sometimes offended some humourless
    jammer instead).

But most of all, thank you from the bottom of my heart for broadening my
horizons, music-wise. When I joined this list my favourite bands were Iron
Maiden, Queensryche and Dream Theater. Now they include Rush, Savatage,
Lemur Voice, Galactic Cowboys, King Crimson, Yes and Steve Vai (who I'm
    seeing in February).

I've bought more cds from reading this list than I have in my entire life,
and I thank you all once again.

Just a comment about Eddy from Australia's 'Is Kirk Hammett a poofter?'
    comment...

I actually thought it was a joke. I immediately thought back to that Monty
    Python skit, the Bruces.

Bruce 1: Are you a poofter?
Bruce 2: *Are* you a poofter?
    Michael: Uh, no, I'm not.
    Bruce 1: Good. That's rule 1 - no poofters!

    etc etc etc

Well, I thought he was kidding, and I'm not sure if he's replied to the
replies he's received... anyway, us Australians are much more reknowned for
our humour and tomfoolery, aren't we?

Well, ta ra! Might pop into #ytsejam now and again.

    Parting is such sweet sorrow...

    Goodbye...

    >Subsequent albums were disappointing.

Whoa. Listen to the thrid one again. 'Who's Behind the Door' was a big
hit and really drove the first album, but song-for-song, I think the third
is better. And Randy Jackson's vocals on the third are not as
forced/falsetto as the first. I have NEVER found the second on cd - was
this one called 'Just Playing Games'?

I remember a few years ago that there was a Randy Jackson solo album called
'China Rain', (or that was the name of the band he formed) advertised in
Guitar World, but I NEVER saw it in the stores.

Unrelated question: Who plays the guitar solo in Testament's 'Return to
Serenity'? James Murphy was in Testament after Skolnick, right? I know
this was right around the time of Skolnick's departure, so is it him or
Murphy? This one falls into the category, 'My favorite solos on albums I
have no intention of ever owning'. Another is Zakk Wylde's on 'No More
    Tears'.

    Hiya!
First off, thanks to all for the help on the fret situation.
Silly me, I said Warlock when I meant Warmoth. One sells guitars, the
other sells parts. Doh! I paid very little for the guitar I got ($375)
because the artwork has a degree of cheesiness to it (black laqcuer with
red glitter mixed in), but I love it to death. It's so damn playable! I
just want to make sure I take good care of it. After playing guitar for
eight years you'd think I know how...
Next question: Does anyone know if the tone on Satch songs Day at
the Beach and Baroque are from his FRED humbucker? I know, I know: how
specific can I get? But I'm in the market for new pickups and Joe's tone
is amazing. I've also heard the Screamin' Demon is an excellent pickup.
Any recommendations? I play a lot of clean and chorused clean, but when I
go for distortion, I like the sound that Joe gets, or Marty Friedman. Not
    that I'm Joe or Marty...
To Philip, who just got Victor: what tracks stood out to you on
the first listen? I'm curious because with an album so diverse as this,
things really stand out. For me it was Strip and Go Naked and The Big
    Dance.
And to all those Savatage loving Jammers out there: I love you,
man. Without you, I would not have found Dead Winter Dead, an album
steadily climbing my charts of best album EVER!!!!! As for TSO, I wish
they had saved some of the instrumental tracks for later in the album,
the last half is very *vocals heavy*. Not that that's a bad thing; the
    album still rules.
Three days till SB XXX (BACK THE PACK!). Eight days till Star
Wars. Eighteen days till Nuno. Forty days till Queensryche. And who knows
how goddamn long till Dream Theater...

    >speaking of all the x bands, anyone know what's the deal with the daddy of
    >them all, king's x? last i heard was that atlantic had dropped them off their
    >label. did they sign with a new one? they recording anything? any info would
    >be appreciated.

King's X were dropped by Atlantic during the middle of their Ear Candy
tour last year around September. They are still very much together,
and have recorded several new songs for their seventh album. They are
distributing them around in hopes of finding a record company that
will treat them right. Using RealAudio, you can hear very short
segments of two of their new songs at the Official King's X Web Page,
run by the band. The address is http://www.compassnet.com/grump/

I know that the majority of this post shouldn't be on the jam but hey,
there has been alot of this lately.

    >same thing) in the parking lot at BH with Alabama plates. Talk about
    >idiots - what kind of jackoff would drive that far just to see a
    >concert? Some DT fans just don't have a life, huh?
    >
    >Mark Peters
    >big.swifty@twav.com

Mr. Peters. A lot of people outside of the internet community would
consider you an "idoit" or a "jackoff" because you subscribe to and read an
internet mailing list. I believe a fan making the trip from Alabama to New
Jersey to see the Fix for 96 show at Birch Hill is great. Of course I am
biased. I flew from Memphis, TN to Philadelphia and then drove 60+ miles
to Old Bridge to see DT. I do not consider myself an "idiot" or "jackoff".
You know what... If they were playing this weekend I would do it again.
I have been a fan for 3 years and have never had the opportunity see them
live. I considered it sort of a vacation. I am sure you were expressing
your opinion however you step over the line when you call other people
derogatory names based on how they spend their time. A more appropriate
statement would have been "I would not drive that far to see a concert".

    > It seems that some place DT on way too high a pedestal..just an
    >opinion. Its not like I'm saying LaBrie completely sucks man!! Because

The jam is a great source of information on DT and many other progressive
bands. My CD collection has increased with quality CDs (Lemur Voice,
Shadow Gallery, Enchant, Fates Warning) since joining this list. But
remember this. The Ytsejam mailing list is a mailing list of DT fans. I
am sure there are plenty of "better" musicians in the world. I say
"better" for lack of another word. I am not sure what "better" means when
comparing music or muscianship. I try not to compare music or musicians.
I may form an opinion as to whether I like something or not but I do not
say one band is better than another because I happen to like them.

Technically proficiency aside I believe there was a chemistry between the
members of Dream Theater (Kevin Moore era) that does not exist in many
bands. I love listening to progressive music and shredding guitarists as
much as the next guy but DT's music moves me. Listening to songs like
ACOS, LtL, etc. gives me chills. From what I have heard of the new songs
(the 5 they played at BH) I believe Derek will fit right in and the music
from the new CD will move me just as much. IMO it is out of line to knock
a DT fan for putting them on a pedastal... especially on a fan mailing list
    dedicated to DT.

Sorry for taking up space on the jam but these two comments hit me harder
then most. I can usually overlook these things.

    Anxiously awaiting my DTIFC package!!!!!
