Wow. I finish reading all the 'jams in my inbox, and by the time I
finish there's 2 more waiting on me....

Don't worry about h***(**)sexuality. There's this person named Kristi
that I love very much, and the feeling is mutual. If you are lucky
enough to find yourself in a situation similar to this, don't look your
    gift horse in the mouth.

I received 2 Spock's Beard CDs in the mail Friday. I hate categorization
as much as the next person, but "Beware of Darkness" is, to me, the CD
that Yes could have released if Close to the Edge and Drama were somehow
juxtaposed. Special thanks go to D-Merlo-Man for loudly espousing this
band's virtues on the 'jam :) otherwise I'd have never plunked down the
necessary dough to get these discs.

I also noticed a long-forgotten persona in a few of the 'jams as I read
them in their entirety. James Carey, if you're reading this, please
    email me.

And I almost forgot: the new Fangoria has pictures from the Spawn movie.
Omigod, this movie looks like it's gonna kick some booty :)

    Hi all

After all the latest talk about christian bands, I decided to take a look at the
lyrics in my King's X and Galactic Cowboys albums. Sure enough, the texts look
like real christian stuff, and the CDs were binned immediately. I could have
taken them to the used CD shop, but I don't want to expose anybody else to this
    sort of stuff.

Why did I resort to such radical measures? Quite simple: I consider Christianity
(and the large section that calls itself Roman Catholic in particular) to be
the most oppressive, anti-democratic, intolerant, deceitful organization of the
last 2000 years. It has had blood on it's hands from the very beginning and it's
still killing people now. If you want to try and prove me wrong, feel free to
take this to private e-mail, and I will back up my objections with hard facts
from official church documents. Please note, I am not saying I object to other
people believing in what they call God, it's simply that I object most strongly
to the way this God has been institutionalized and to the missionary nature of
this religion. I want no part in it. I will not comment on this theme in public
    again.

Back to music. I went to see Biohazard last week (any other crossover fans out
there?). Hard, harder, Biohazard. These guys were amazing. More energy than a
nuclear reactor just about to go critical. NO brilliant solos, NO castrato
vocals, NO Wakemanesque keyboards, just good, hard, clean fun (and as heavy as
a bull elephant's scrotum). Even the support act, Stuck Mojo, weren't bad. How
about Biohazard with Machine Head, Sepultura and Meshuggah?

    stay safe and happy listening

If, by "their", Chung means Magna Carta, I completely agree. I am now the
proud owner of the entire MC catalog and there is not a clunker in the
bunch - IMHO of course. I bought the Tull tribute. solely to complete my
collection (I am not a *huge* Tull fan) but I was completely suprised -
it rocks! The first two trax, by Magellan, sold me!

MC is doing us all a great service by giving young, up-and-coming prog

Bozzio project. Long live Magna Carta ! :)

    Greetings

OK, just a couple of requests this time, not mumblings and, incidentally,
    very few jumblings...

    1. Please cut the discussion about homosexuality.

    2. There's going to be a DT album released in just over two months. Why
    aren't we talking about this?

    3. Be nice to each other. We're here to talk about and discuss Dream
Theater and other related topics. Private email can be a wonderful thing -
if you want to abuse someone for all it's worth, don't put it in the jam.
It just means you're either someone who thinks other people want to hear
it, or you're just an exhibitionist.

Reading the recent jams, I've found myself genuinely wishing, on more than
one occasion, that this were a moderated mailing list. Please, I implore
each and every one of you, to start talking about DT or, if this isn't
possible, at least contribute something worthy of discussing. Not the pros
and cons of being gay, not all that other shit which has been permeating
    the list in recent weeks.

The band are said to read the Ytsejam. Having a look at what is being said
recently, I doubt we're the kinds of fans they'd really like to have.

Just a couple of thoughts for you to either ignore or dwell on. Do
    whatever takes your fancy.

    Lots of love,

    Spiff

there is a huge difference between a solid state 90 watt-er and a tube 90.
the 2:90, which i hope to get in the coming months.... is 90 watts per
side and with tubes, that pretty loud. you'd have to be playing some pretty
huge venues unmiked for that not to be enough. But that's just my opinion.
       i could be wrong.

what w/ DT, Genesis (are those being released (planned release, anyway)
on the same day?), savatage (i think? or is that earlier?)

as for genesis, i just (finally) got We can't Dance the other day.....just
never had the urge to do so previously, never got all that much out of the
radio songs.....but recently I been lis'nin to a lot of genesis all up and
down their career.....got a bunch of their late 70s/early 80s vinyl from a
garage sale, etc......getting excited about the new one.......

stupid nitpicking....i thot lines in the sand was one of the "completed"
songs....although DOug pinnick would be a welcome voice to hear.......
As far as me and King's X, I started with DOgman, wasn't impressed enuff
to run out and get the rest of their stuff.....ironically, Cigarettes was
and remains my fave song on that disc, it's just that nobody ever
mentioned that's the most representative KX-ish song on there (until Mike
Bahr a few days ago, o' course), otherwise, I would have grabbed FHL a lot
longer than three months ago.......Got to add one song to the lists of
best stuff off KS discs....."Mr. Wilson" (FHL) may be my fave KX song: I
have no idea what the lyrics say, I don't know what it's about (Dennis the
Menace, Maybe?), but that sucker just resonates with me musically

anywho, back to the original point....Funny how all the bands/artists I
*have* to buy early seem to release stuff near each other......last
september it was eric johnson and rush a coupla weeks apart......
    knowhutimean?

Falling into infinity: I like it....sounds.....Irish or something,
    beckett, maybe.....or einstein, I dunno.....

the gay thread: I got an opinion, so does everyone, but me not being
the shove it down the throat type, nor the "i got the opine, but I ain't
gonna share" type of guy, I'll give y'all the option
of seeing it (or not).....if you care to, point your browsers at:

    http://www.umich.edu/~ahtrap/bschorr.html

for a good commentary on it.......I also got that dancing baby on that
page, so check it out anyway.......if you do take a look, I'd like to
hear what you think......the e-mail as always, ahtrap@umich.edu

and one more thing: Don't assume everyone holding PC ideas does so just
because it is the PC line.......that term, bad words from ALL sides of
the political spectrum, implies that people held different unpopular views
and changed them to satisfy someone.......let me assure whomever, that my
views are my own, arrived at under scant influence from some bullshit
    standards.....

    even Ytse-Sin?

I listen to all music but...excuse I just heard my name. :) > So, you see how much easier things would be? So I'm interested in > hearing everybody's idea of what such a word should be. The second paragraph kinda is my opinion. I mean come on that last sentence in the first paragraph so retarded it isn't funny. I'm not flaming you it's just seeing this the second time I couldn't resist. :)

Everyone should enter! Seriously, if you were on the list last year when this came out, you would know how much fun this was. We all asked around afterward about who else voted for another "unheard of band." I'm voting right after this! :)

    > Current statistics are as follows (as of 7/5/97): > Number of entries: 21 > Number of different bands/artists mentioned: 97 > Current Survey Top 5 (with number of entries): > 1) Queensryche (13) > Rush > 3) Savatage (9) > 4) Fates Warning (8) > 5) Megadeth (6) > Steve Vai

You know what would be good, Steve. If you could also post the top 5 from last year(from each update, not from the final count). I don't know if you have the info still, but it would be cool to see how the jam changed in a year.

I never thought that I would be one of those people who would repeatly complain about the jam, BUT, this is getting old. How many times will it take for some of you to get that after 'From:' you don't always need 'ytsejam@ax.com' most of the last couple of jams were just people still trying to throw their opinions around, and even if I agree with you or not, I emailed usually email that person if its off topic! Not to complain or praise but to talk. Yes, it's true you can email someone just to talk about what they wrote! Skadz, stop this before I ask Twinkieboy to take over the jam to fix things! ;)

I was just thinking about WDADU, and my favorite DT moment *has* to be the ending of OMaT. Period. :)
