What about Jason Bonham? You know, the son of John from Zep. Who, IMO
kicks his Dad's butt all over the drum set, not to mention most other
drummers (except Portnoy of course). Just thought I'd clarify WHICH
    Bonham is best IMO. $0.02...........

The ones that I normally listen to for a pick me up are:

DT--I&W: The overall sound of this album is sort of a you've gotta keep
going sound that works really well when someone's down.

QR--Empire: Love this album. I'll program Another Rainy Night, Empire,
and Silent Lucidity to repeat. Esp. love Silent Lucidity..

Tom Petty--She's the One: This is probably my faverite soundtrack..
Angel Dream #4 is just awesome..

Rush--Moving Picures: Quite simply, a great album that has some of my
    fave. Rush sougs on it.

Also like to watch movies or read. Anything to escape, huh =)

Personally, I love the CD. Enchant is more like Marillion and Rush than DT,
so if you prefer prog-metal than Enchant may not be your thing. Tracks like
"Pure", "Look Away" and "Distractions" really stand out for me. I like Ted
Leonard's voice quite a bit. He does sound like Steve Walsh and there's
    nothing wrong with that!!

The first disc is just as great as "Wounded", although "Wounded" is decidedly
more consistent, IMHO. Douglas Ott is a poor man's Steve Rothery. Comments
    are welcome, of course!

It would seem I must re-explain the idea in more detailed terms in order
for Mystery Guests to dnerustand it.

    1. You've never seen my hands.

    2. If I place my thumb-tip on the headstock-facing end of the first fret
(called the NUT in guitar circles) and stretch out my index finger, I can
reach the seventh fret. So go grab a guitar and fumble towards ecstacy.

    3. If you believe that any human who is not the product of human-horse
cross-breeding can reach lengths, you been watchin' too many'a Mike Bahr's
pornos. Meaning: the test is a load of bumbershootananny.

Since "woot" has been determined to be pronounced "wut," your previous
term can only logically be pronounced as "hut"ananny. Like Jabba the
    Hutananny.

Tony MacAlpine mentioned a great album of Tafolla's called "Out Of The
Sun," in reference to one Paul Gilbert who does some guest solos on the
album. Supposedly Gilbert came into the studio one day to do his parts and
nailed them all on one take, which left the studio guys scratching their
heads as to what they should do next.

"Let's see, that took eight whole minutes... Um... *click* Alright, Paul?
Yeah, let's do another take just to see how things turn out, okay? *click*
Why didn't he just tape this at home and drop the tape off with us?"

Then Gilbert nailed everything perfectly a second time. MacAlpine
expressed Gilbert's soloing efforts by flailing his arms in the air and
shouting "WHIRRRRRR!!!" like some kind of angry, loud motor. When Tony Mac
does something like that to describe a contemporary, that contemporary
must be one fast mofo. ;)

In my opinion Eddie Van Halen could never be as fluid as Vito Bratta.
I've never heard anyone play like Bratta, all I know is he worked out all
his album playing on acoustic guitars before going into the studio to
record, which might explain why his stuff sounds so effortless. I've heard
that live White Lion shows were a different story, but Bratta has always
maintained that he viewed guitar playing as "a hobby, not an occupation."

And I think I already mentioned what Cari Wuhrer thought of "Little
    Fighter." :)

Yeah, sure I can comment further. I used to play Photon and paintball with
Fath's bassist, Dave Crigger. He's married now, has a government job, and
is expecting a child. But he was one wyLd d00d.

    a "fast" guitarist?

Bafu Vai: Paul Gilbert. Paul Gilbert is a FAST guitarist.

I have to disagree. I've seen 'em both in concert, thoroughly scrutinized
most of their respective albums, and I think that Petrucci is a better
guitarist (And, he signed my guitar). I think they are about even as far a
soloing is concerned, but Vai can't hold a candle to Petrucci's rhythm
playing (Although the Fire Garden Suite comes close). Listen to Take the
Time, Metropolis, Voices, and Learning to Live (in the bigger font), to see
    what i mean.
One concession I will make is that Vai has a more varied style. His music
changes from song to song while still remaining pure Vai. Also, Vai plays
stuff besides guitar (mainly keyboard) which i have not heard of Petrucci
    playing.

btw, IMHO means "In My Humble Opinion" (I think)

Well, to put my little bit in on this thread, like many others, if I want to listen to something to pick up my spirits, there's nothing like a little Rush. HYF is probably my favourite Rush album. Time Stand Still is probably one of the most inspiring songs of all time for me. For some reason it can always take a negative situation and turn it around and make me think about it positively... has anyone else found this?

DT have a lot of songs that are good to listen to when I'm in a happy/pumped up mood (Metropolis), but I find that if I'm depressed they don't pick me up. In terms of songs that I want to listen to to stay depressed, well, maybe SDV, but I rarely get depressed anyway.

I just got Enchant's new album, 'Time Lost', German only import, it is a collection of studio outtakes and demo's, 7 tracks 55 min long, ranging from 6 - 10 minutes each. What does it sound like ? Fucking awesome, how these songs never made it onto 'Blueprint' or 'Wounded' is beyond me. I know this Cd is hard to find and pretty expensive, but it is a must for you hardcore Enchant fans out there.

Hi, everyone! Today I was listening (for the 1,538th time) to the tapes I received from Brian Kirk, Ed Reed, and one other person whose name I can't remember in the progressive tape swap that took place on the 'jam a few months after I joined (16??). As a result of those tapes I have bought the following CDs: Echolyn "As The World", Pendragon "Masquerade Overture", Marillion "Made Again", Savatage "Handful Of Rain", Superior "Behind", Galctic Cowboys "GC", Shadow Gallery "Carved In Stone", Lemur Voice "Insights", and Tori Amos "Little Earthquakes. Quite a sampling, eh?

Anyway, the swap was a complete success for me. Since it's been several months since the swap took place, and there are many new 'jammers on board, I think it would be a good idea to organize another one. If no one else is interested in organizing it, I will do it. If you are interested, please email me and let me know.

This guy is really an inspiration to us all. I wish I had chunks and chunks of time on my hand devising neat tricks to mess up a whole list. Be proud...this is a crowning achievement. Something to tell your grand kids.

Also, what's up with your email address? Wee.wee??? I think you'll soon be known to the ytsejam as Mr. Wee-wee instead of the imposter. Just for future reference, I'd pick a more "balls and chunk" address next time around. Wee.wee just doesn't cut it.

It's one thing to hide your face behind an email address (we all do that). It's a totally different thing to hide your face behind a fake email address which hides behind a real email address?

I think it's safe to say this guy has a severe problem being comfortable with his own identity.

My name is Brandon Elhai. I am not ashamed to admit it. What's yours?

    Hi everyone -

Just wanted to discuss a few things here. First, I'd been meaning to write regarding how I first got into Rush. It seems like most out there are dissing "Moving Pictures" as a starting point. Well, that's where it began for me, folks! I can remember loving tunes like "Tom Sawyer", "Red Barchetta", and "Limelight" on my crappy little transistor radio in my bedroom. I can still remember buying the album (it was one of my first albums ever!), and I spent many a night playing it time after countless time, memorizing every note and word. And here I am, maybe 15 years older and a little wiser :-), and that album sounds today as great as it did back then. IMHO, album is as close to perfect as Rush has ever gotten. My God, "Witch Hunt" still gives me chills. Now, I love many of Rush's other albums, but I always find myself using MP as the litmus test. Just my 2 cents worth.

In regards to a review of the new DT material, I must say that "Burning My Soul" hits me where it counts more so than any of the other new ones. HEAVY!!! But very catchy... sounds like something that could've been on Awake (maybe in the same vein as "The Mirror/Lie"). As far as the rest, I loved Peruvian Skies, Take Away My Pain, and Lines In the Sand. The only one that I think I'll need time to grow into in Just Let Me Breathe. Oh yeah, I also heard Raise the Knife. It has great parts, but tends to wander in places. I'll have to hear it fully with vocals and stuff. I also really liked Where Are You Now. I hope that makes the final album cut.

Now then, I have some great news for your South American Jammers...in my latest issue of Metal Edge, which arrived today, the following news blurb appeared, and I quote: "Dio, Dream Theater, Manowar, Whitesnake, Type O Negative, and Angra are slated to take part in the Mosters Of Rock Festival in Sao Paulo, Brazil on August 30." I am very pleased for you S.A. Jammers who are yet to witness the greatness, but for us Americans... DAMN!!!!!! :-) Anybody care to make a boot of the WHOLE gig? Angra and DT on the same bill? Is this Heaven? (No, it's Iowa...)

That's all for now... Peace, all!!! - Matt T.
