Il Balletto di Bronzo does have a great progressive rock album
called "Ys". But, in my opinion, it bears little resemblance to Dream
Theater. For the time, it has a heavy sound and is full of fast-paced,
complex arrangements, but that's where the resemblance ends. Il Baletto
di Bronzo uses less melodic arrangements and a very different vocal style.
I'd say that Dream Theater was influenced far more by the likes of Yes
and Rush (who also had fast-paced, complex arrangements).
Also, I seriously doubt that any of the Dream Theater band members
have heard of Il Balletto di Bronzo. So, in that sense they couldn't
have been influenced by them. Il Balletto di Bronzo is an *extremely*
obscure band (at least in the United States) compared to bands like Rush
and Yes and it's unlikely that the DT members have heard them. Maybe
someone will ask them at a concert sometime. :-)
I don't know how many DT fans would like Il Balletto di Bronzo's
"Ys", but I love it, so I would recommend it if you're willing to experiment.
I just don't think it was an influence on DT.
