    Sorry, this thing again. :-)

    >>> minutes early. How many minutes did the man walk?
    >>ARGH! The one I didn't get. :(

    > ok...since you guys can't get it....it's 40 minutes...i'll tell you
    > why....it says that the man got there an hour early and started walking
    > home...
    > now since it took them 20 minutes to get home from whereever it is that
    > he walked to, it would be assumed that it would take 20 minutes to get
    > there from home as well...and thus 40 minutes...
    >
    > yup....another day, another problem solved....

I dunno.. My first thought was 50minutes, cause the man arrived at TS one
hour early and started to walk. If he hadn't walked, the wife would picked
him up on time... then they arrived at home 20 minutes early. So, the
distance he walked takes 10 minutes by car and that's why I thought it was
50 minutes. Somebody posted this and I agree.
            Now, you're saying that it's 40 minutes. I can't understand it, but it's
ok. That's not the point. The point is: if the man took 40 minutes (or even
    50) to walk the same distance his wife takes 10 minutes by car.. Wow, or he
walks real fast or his wife is learning to drive. :-))
Well, Skadz said once to stop the brain teasers but this was funny. :)
Now, returning to music and DTC...

I was looking for some Dweezil albums, speccialy Confessions and notice
that they're are no longer made. Is this right? Does anyone want to make a
copy of this for me? Some coments would be great too. Email me, please..
Oh, about Chick Corea's Inside Out (didn't find it yet), someone who wrote
about it, could please tell me who plays in this album? Thanks in advance.

    DTC:
Anyone (brazillian jammers?) know if there will be a MoR this year?? I
heard that Phillips wouldn't sponsor the festival but it'll happen anyway.
Any news about it? It'd be better if DT came to the festival AND some
parallels concerts.. MoR is good, but only 40 minutes each band (am I
    right?)...

Well, we can start to walk at the beggining of the show; at the end of the
show we meet that man's wife and take a ride. :)

I promisse.. I'll buy a spell checker and a better dictionary.

    Hear! Hear! :)

I was lucky enough to be leaning on the stage at a local pub in the late
70's where the Dregs were wowing the crowd of 100 or so! Even with 20
years less experience, Morse still rocked hard! He has an incredible
feel for what fits best at a certain point in a song.

Rod Morgenstein was on drums then and kicked my ass, which makes a good
    segue into:

I went with Jeremy Hallum and saw the Rudess/Morgenstein Project at a
Guitar Center. In a word: Amazing!! In a few: This is a "power duo"
(keys/drums). As you musicians will already know, it's a tough thing to
pull off live and make it sound good.

They formed as a result of a Dregs concert they were playing in '94. The
power went out on all the rigs except (amazingly) the keys. Jordan and
Rod proceeded to jam for 10 minutes. Afterwards, they said something
    like: Hey, this works! :)

As a Texas jammer said several jam ago (sorry, dude, forgot your name),
they mentioned the power going out twice in Dallas and hoped this clinic
would go a little more smoothly. Well, the lights went out a couple of
    times, but the sound persisted...

Jordan plays a Kurzweil k2500: one of the, if not, THE most technically
advanced synth on the market. It has the closest approximation to a
grand piano. It also makes some of the strangest sounds I've ever heard
:) There's not much you can't say about this guy. He was accepted into
Julliard at 9. Both hands had smoke coming out of them!

Rod played the shit out of the drums and just had so much fun. One look
at his picture on the Cd liner and you can tell he loves what he does!
He's got a great sense of humor. I've got to say, this guy just blew me
away! He and Jordan are both incredibly tight. As Chris said above about
Steve Morse's experience, so too is Rod. There's just no substitute for
playing live for over 20 years. Rod even said it when someone asked
about practicing techniques ("There just aren't any shortcuts")...

You want progressive as in 7+ minute songs, complex time signatures,
mega modulations, this is it!! This is some of the most progressive
stuff I've heard in quite a while. It ain't metal, but it sure as heck
rocks. I bought the disc without hesitation. I occasionally hear shades
of the Dregs in there as well as Gentle Giant, but they've also got
their own sound. Needless to say, I'll be heading over to Berklee to
    catch 'em again on Monday.

Il Balletto di Bronzo does have a great progressive rock album called "Ys". But, in my opinion, it bears little resemblance to Dream Theater. For the time, it has a heavy sound and is full of fast-paced, complex arrangements, but that's where the resemblance ends. Il Baletto di Bronzo uses less melodic arrangements and a very different vocal style. I'd say that Dream Theater was influenced far more by the likes of Yes and Rush (who also had fast-paced, complex arrangements). Also, I seriously doubt that any of the Dream Theater band members have heard of Il Balletto di Bronzo. So, in that sense they couldn't have been influenced by them. Il Balletto di Bronzo is an *extremely* obscure band (at least in the United States) compared to bands like Rush and Yes and it's unlikely that the DT members have heard them. Maybe someone will ask them at a concert sometime. :-) I don't know how many DT fans would like Il Balletto di Bronzo's "Ys", but I love it, so I would recommend it if you're willing to experiment. I just don't think it was an influence on DT.

Wouldn't it be cool if that were how the samples were really recorded? It would definitely make it easier to pinpoint the date of that Conan show, and tell for sure who the guest is.

Just to clear up... The harmonies in "Voices" are James with himself. The harmonies in "The Silent Man" are James with John Purdell. And, since I know you're going to ask, the harmonies on "To Live Forever" are James with himself. :)

I would assume that John P and Mike are singing on the new album, because they were singing during the Fix shows, but I don't know for sure.

You sure that it's this Jim Hill guy? I was almost positive that it was Al Michaels doing that commentary.....I know that he was doing this commentary during the OJ chase as well for for national news program (most likely ABC) - I remember Howard Stern talking to Al Michaels about it - and it dows sound like his voice..............

It took me about 7 months from ordering time to receive my stuff, but it's worth it. Mike, thanks for putting up with our impatience.....keep making cool CD's! By the way, if anyone is still able to, I suggest picking up VS. If you attended a TFE tour this year, this is a great keepsake. It's almost identical to the show I was at.

Pathogenice Ocular Dissonance will still probably be my favourite, but I think I might like it a touch better than Vanishing Lessons. It's more diverse from what I can tell so far. Interesting jazzy beginning to the first track (Claustrospelunker). It has more heavy moments than Vanishing Lessons, too (i.e. Enveloped in Python, The Tell Tale Heart (yet another Poe reference, too:), Tire Kicking, Stumblefoot), and some lighter moments (i.e. If I was There), and I'm not sure what to think about Bats. Notice the riffs from older songs they throw into If Pigs Could Fly (Somnambulism, Spineless, Skeezix Dilemna, Bearing Gruesome Cargo, Heads I win, Tails You Lose). Not as thrashy or speed as the older albums, but some good metal moments.

Tube amps are certainly not free from manitainance, in fact, depending on how difficult your tubes are to find (Russia and China make 'em, and a few are made in the US, but not many)... ONE TUBE can cost as much as $50.00. to replace (My amp uses 8 tubes)...

However, for pure volume, I'll put my 2:90 up against any 300-watt solid-state any day, and I'll knock you down. And nothing sounds as warm as a tube amp clipping at full volume, a sound no solid-state will EVER be able to duplicate.

As for tone, my Tri-Axis is the deal....

But on my Ibanez USA Custom, I have the original Tone Zone, which I like a lot. I first put one in my previous Ibanez, an RG770, and it's cool.

I've been looking everywhere for all their albums, even importers, and I've had no luck. Can anyone tell me of a good place that I might be able to try?

Salutations from the management and staff of Ytse-Survey II (me):

Wow! Every time I post the current standings for the survey, I'm overloaded with entries. Keep it up, guys! We have almost reached 70 entries, well on our way to the goal of 150. For those of you who haven't yet, e-mail me at syoung@phnx.uswest.net with your 10 favorite 'non-Dream Theater' bands/artists -- Entries will be accepted until 11:59 p.m., July 31st; at that point, the entries will be compiled and a Ytse-Survey II champion crowned.

Current statistics are as follows (as of 7/11/97):

Number of entries: 65 Number of different bands/artists mentioned: 222

    Current Survey Top 10 (with number of entries): 1) Queensryche (37) Rush 3) Fates Warning (24) 4) Savatage (21) 5) Iron Maiden (16) Metallica 7) Steve Vai (15) 8) Megadeth (14) Yes 10) Angra (13)

Rush and QR continue to fight it out. You would think that a lot of people are submitting both of them together, but it hasn't been that way at all. There are a lot of 'Jammers out there who like either Rush OR Queensryche and don't care much for the other. It just so happens that there is an equal amount of both. The Top 10 didn't change form last posting, as far as the bands involved is concerned. There was one place-swap, though. Angra almost dropped clear out. They are hanging on at 10th, while evryone else stayed in the same order. And, Savatage has waned somewhat, now 3 entries behind FW in 4th place.

Other bands/artists making the 'honorable mention' list (7 entries or more -- in no particular order): Tori Amos, Genesis, Helloween, Lemur Voice, Yngwie Malmsteen, Marillion, Pink Floyd, Joe Satriani, Shadow Gallery, Stratovarius, and Superior. As you can see, the wealth is being spread quite a bit.

We still have 20 days to go, but don't delay -- SEND TODAY!
