I just got back from the Chicago QR show at the World Music Theater.

The band was tight as can be, and the vocals were just gorgeous.
Geoff Tate still has his range... he didn't wimp out on any high notes, and
threw in a few that we weren't expecting. He DID screw up, I believe in
Revolution Calling, singing the wrong verse after the solo, but he recovered
beautifully. I'm sure it was something off Mindcrime that he botched... it
might not have been that tune... I was too bewildered to let it bother me.
The show was completely amazing... the energy built up as they
continued through the set. If you're just sorta THINKING about seeing them
on this tour, DO IT. The new songs actually sounded GOOD to me, which is a
surprise, since I really didn't like the album. The only downside: They
played Get a Life. That song still sucks. :)
We got backstage for the preshow party, got all of the band's
autographs, and got a picture of Maddy and me with each one of the band
members. That's goin' up on the web page for sure! Met two very cool
Jammers... one of the list's Cygnus-folk (The proud owner of one of our
autographed Hear in the Now Frontier promo stickers) and Scott (Hanson, I
think it was?), who also got some autograph-age. Got a pick from Michael
Wilton, which I wouldn't have thought to do had Maddy not been with me.
I met more Rychers from the QR Internet groups than jammers, which
was sort of disappointing, but these people were cooler than hell (hmm.
That would be a given, I guess). This has been a good night.

Yeah, I understand the WHOLE PICTURE when it comes to tonality, and while
I admit that that statement 'bout buyin' a trembucker is naievity at its
peak performance, I still am impressed and optimistic about it workin' in
    my guitar.

You see, I'm an Ibanez kind of guy. They just seem to know how to work,
without me worrying about what to do next, where to go, and I won't have
to worry about children. But when I'm getting hot and heavy, I need
protection...against AGFU's: Amplified Guitar Fuck Ups. That's right,
Amplified Guitar Fuck Ups. In order to protect myself from these
monstrosities, I use Seymore Duncans (well, not really, but I'm on a
roll). Seymore Duncan knows how to make a well constructed humbucker and
    trembucker, so I trust them.

Seymore Duncan: Only the feeling gets through.

Yeah, if yer all still interested, it's an RG 470 with jumbo frets, a
double locking Floyd-Rose with that nifty dug-in trem system, basswood
body (I think) and rosewood fingerboard. It feels pretty damn close to
Petrucci's model as far as playin' goes...but those stock pickups HAVE TO GO!
Lemme narrow the original question #2 down a little:
If you were a metalhead who wanted a lot of output and crunchy,
ear-bursting chords and cranium splitting notes ala Metallica/Dream
Theater/Megadeth and be able to switch to a nice, bluesy/rock sound ala
Hoey/Snatchriani/Johnson, what would work best, barring an effects
processor. Again, I understand that pickups aren't everything, but ya
have all these companies producin' these li'l trinkets and each one seems
to be geared towards one genre of music or another. And if each
"genre-classified" pickup is a gimmick, just say so! :D

BTW, regarding Satriani...his web site is a bit hysterical. It's a
single letter away from being the address of a major porn site. I'll let
you figgur that one out, and try it if you must. >:)

In closing, I was lookin' through Satch's bio information, and it
mentioned something about a pitch-axis theory. My question? What the
    hell is it?
    *scratches nuts*

Anyhoo, any input would be welcomed. Any flaming comments and degrading
Eckieslams will be ignored unless they're creative about it. And any
steamy pics of Liv Tyler would be appreciated! (DT needs to learn from
Aerosmith: to make it big you need balls and chunk in the music, and
tits and axe in the videos)

DO IT! EVERYONE THAT CAN MUST GO TO THIS SHOW! I want to meet more
jammers. :) I'm gonna go to two or three shows on the west coast as well,
if things go as planned. I want to meet as many jammers as possible! I
only saw one Ytsejam shirt at the QR show and the dude wearing it and I
immediately attacked one another with friendly greetings of "Who the fuck
    are you on the jam?"

I wouldn't change anything about that album but the production. I
think it kicks more ass than anything else they've done... but only barely.

Hey Eckie, I showed you this last week on yer guitar!!

    PITCH AXIS THEORY:
"The principle is that any number of harmonic settings can be linked by
    the same tonal center. Say you're in C major (C D E F G A B C) for four
bars and C minor (C D Eb F G Ab Bb) for the next four bars:
The major and minor keys share the same tonic, C, and this note provides a
pivot point on which to shift harmonies. You could then take four bars in,
    say C Phyrigian (C Db Eb F G Ab Bb), and then four in C Mixolydian (C D E F
G A Bb). Now a series of four distinct harmonies are adjoined, all of them
revolving around the same C center. Thus, one _pitch_ provides an _axis_
point for the scales and chords of a variety of harmonic situations."

I hear not ballz nor chunk in Aerosmith's music. They don't do that.
Compare them to Sepultura, Tourniquet, GC, DT, or MD: "No ballz" vs. "BALLZ
    'N CHUUUUUUUUUUNK!!!"

    re: the apsog review
interesting article. i liked it. i don't agree with everything the guy says.
what he says about part ii is so true.

    >In the second section of "A Pleasant Shade of Gray," FW actually hit on a

    >truly progressive notion. They use an industrial style vamp with more of

    >a distorted vocal sound. Exploring this area as a vehicle for their

    >virtuostic chops would've been a completely fresh direction.

    >Unfortunately, it is a short lived break from the navigational noodling of

    >the album as a complete work.

.......with emphasis on "short-lived". i so wish they had done more with
    that, but whatever....

    re: thought industry

hey!!! they have a new cd out! i just happened to run into it at tower
tonight. i bought it (along with prodigy and coltrane's "love supreme" on
vinyl). thought industry is pretty good after a 1st listen. need to get into
it more. i can't fucking believe metal blade couldn't have the heart to make
    it at least REMOTELY public.

and prodigy? it's good. it's scary. i like it. i AM the firestarter.

    cd of the week:
this is an oldie but goodie. with all the talk about guitarists, billy idol
has a BRILLIANT album that features some lesser-known guitarists (not that
steve smith shmuck). if you ever want to hear the most unlikely-sounding
billy idol cd, pick up "cyberpunk". there is some SMOOOOTH playing on that.
and the guy(s) can burn rubber, too.

any other thought industry fans' remarks about the album would be cool (here
    or private).

ron thal who? fuck him. vernon reid still kicks ass.

            Nope, it's not...at least the first part isn't a rumor. I can't remeber if
it was in December or not, but it was a "secret" show. Whether or not it
was recorded, I'm not sure. However, it wouldn't surprise me. Toronto's
    known for good "recordable" venues.

I'm WhiteWolf and that's my main sig. I got it from the last verse of the
    song
"Not What You See" by Savatage from the album Dead Winter Dead; a concept
album about the war in Bosnia. Most excellent disc; in fact, it hasn't left
my changer in 6 months. Great vocal counterpoint melodies in this one, as
    well. I highly recommend
this disc to alot of people. If I had to pigeon-hole it, I'd have to say
it's "Operatic Heavy Rock". Also highly recommended is the Savatage side
project Trans-Siberian Orchesta (TSO). They have a Christmas album, which
is due to be re-released in time for the holidays this year.

    Laterness...

I totally agree with you.As a Dream Theater fan, i must admit that it
would be excellent if the band re-record WDADU.Ok, for me it's for
    another reason, i can't bear Charlie Dominici voice.When i compare a
Fortune in lies and The Killing Hand from WDADU with the ones of Live at
the Marquee it's a night and day difference.I'd like so much to listen
to Light Fuse and get Away if Labrie sings on it.I agree too about the
bass thing...it's like Myung has disappear from the cd's!
If the band could re-record WDADU, I think it'd be good for them too,
not only for the fans like us!

I just saw a list of FW tour dates from Medal Blade.

There seems to be some confusion over the Philly show.

    >8/8 JAXX NITE CLUB W SPRINGFIELD VA >8/9 LODOWN MT VERNON NY >8/10 TROCADERO PHILEDELPHIA

Jaxx is definately on Friday the 8th right? I had heard that Philly was on Thursday the 7th. Is it definately on Sunday the 10th? If so, that would definately be better for our road trip plans since it's a weekend. We plan on hitting Virgina and then making a "Pleasant Shade of Philly" road trip.

Can someone please confirm these dates?

Also, what would be the best way to get tix for the Philly show? Call TicketBastard up there? Also, does anyone have any clue why the TicketBastard web site doesn't carry Maryland events?!

    Thanks!

QR Internet groups? What QR Internet groups? Where can I find them?
