No flames...just points of view. Like so: I hate Alanis with a passion.

    composed by
    >Alanis Morissette and Glen Ballard. All lyrics by Alanis Morissette."

Ok...she had a melody and Ballard shaped it for her. You call those
lyrics? I remember when the shit hit the fan over the word fu*k in the
    original version of ACOS here.
Otay...now my point...she needed help to write it. She had released 2 or 3
    albums previous
to this one , which were nowhere. Suddenly, she hooks up with Glen Ballard,
    and she's got a #1
    album. Coincidence?
Why? Well, how many people knew who Paula Abdul was before she became
    famous? Not
too many. Now, who wrote her music? Ballard did. Point being: she needed
the help of a more experienced songwriter to make this album...in both
cases. I'm not taking anything away from Ballard, mind you. He seems to be
a multi-talented guy. But who gets the glory in the end? The artist perfoming
    those songs.
And what's a Ytsejammer doing listening to Alanis anyway?? She can't sing,
has no stage presence & no real talent. For me, death is preferable to her
    music.

    >Also, in the thank you's, she describes Ballard as her "spiritual brother,"
    >
Pretty magnanimous statement, if ya ask me.

    female artists. Also,
    >he's not _just_ a songwriter -- he produced the album.

First of all lets get something straight about Mariah Carey. 1) For
example Mariah Carey wrote ALL yes ALL but one song from the Dreamlover CD.
Well I should say that she wrote all the lyrics on 9 out of 10 tracks and
co-wrote the music on those same tracks. The one song she didn't write was a
    COVER tune,Without You.She also co-wrote all 11 track on her debut CD,Mariah
Carey. So the next time you want to slam a Big Star like Mariah Carey get
your FACTS straight.2) You say that the "Songwriters exploit her falsetto
abilities to sell records," Hell yes SHE is going to use and exploit her own
talents to sell records. She would be a fool not to as you obviously are to
say something like this without knowing the FACTS!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi there,

Just bought some CD's, here's what I think:

Fates Warning: A Pleasant Shade of Gray
Cool. Just cool. :) Not the best Fates CD, but a very good one indeed.

            Savatage: Edge of Thorns
This one rocks! Very very cool. :)

            Running Wild: Masquerade
I haven't quite heard this CD yet, but it's the usual RW: heavy
guitars, cool songs. Not as good as "Pile of Skulls", but a nice album.

            Steve Vai: Fire Garden
Another one I haven't quite heard (Savatage's been running for some
time in the stereo :) ). But sounded very cool when I gave that "first
    run". :)

Sorry for this waste of bandwidth, but I had to post something. :)

You forgot this one from Lost in the Sky, "(audience yelling something in
Italian) You don't expect me to understand what you're saying."

Some of you guys are too critical of JL. Not only does he have to hit every
note every night, he also has to say all the right things between the songs.
I don't think JL is a weak frontman. I think he has lots of energy. I
personally like not knowing what to expect from him, it's like an adventure.
Would you rather him say, "All right guys this is Lie off Awake." You have
to like it when he's introducing a song and his voice goes from a faint
    whisper to a loud yell.

My favorite intro is on The Dance of Eternity when he's introducing Ytsejam
he says something like, "This is my favorite part of the night because I get
to take a break. The rest of the guys are going to go back to the first
album and do some intrumental crazy stuff. ARE YOU READY??!! This is the
    YTSEJAM!!!!

Any Miami jammers going to the Rudess and Morgenstein show at Sam Ash on Monday?
I'm pretty sure I'll be there.

He made a solo album, but I don't remember what it's called. I saw it only

But seriously, as far as I know you're right about Alanis. Glenn actually
produced and co-wrote the new VH songs on 'Greatest Hits' as well, and i
    believe the upcoming cd,too.

And in any case, what's wrong about singing or performing music you didn't
write? There are many ppl out there who devote themselves to composition
and need musicians to play it for them. Some were made to make music, some
perform, some for both, and there's nothing wrong about that. Yes, of
course, Mariah gets all the attention, but the guy who wrote the song gets
    his dough.

I was only saying the other day to a fellow QR fan, how much the new
Conception album 'Flow' reminds me of QR 'Rage For Order' era. Style wise
yes, but that's it, I don't see anything else the two bands have in common.
It is a great album, a definite early contender for album of the year, I
think it has a US release, so check it out, btw, my fave track is the Jap
only bonus 'Hand On Heart' (Nothing to do with the QR song of the same
    name).
Another band worth checking out are Labyrinth from Italy, their debut album
'No Limits' is a great slice of Euro prog.

Yes I did enjoy the joke, however I've never been able to figure out why
people tend to take what really means "The 50 states united to form one
country located somewhere in America" as being America itself. I just

All rise, Ytsejam Court number 2601 is in session, the dishonorable Judge
    Ito presiding.

I'm just warning you all, I'm writing this message on the fly with no
quotes (correct ones, anyway) or facts in front of me to back me up. I'm
going by what I know about handling mail orders, and what I know of Mike
Bahr's business in particular. If there is anything that I get wrong in
here, someone please correct it, but I'm fairly certain that this is
    accurate.

Mike Bahr's CD business is essentially a two person operation. He has a
computer with a CD-R (writer) which he uses to reproduce the CDs from
distribution. A CD-R can reliably make one CD in about 45 minutes with a
write check after the write (to verify). Mike has print runs of about 250
CDs each, and runs several CDs at once. In fact, some of his later CDs
are 2 or 3 CD sets. Mike and his wife also have day jobs, and lives. I
would imagine he is only able to produce a handful of CDs daily.

The way things work, is you reserve a CD, and then send in your payment
for it. Mike sends the CDs in the order he gets payment in (which is
perfectly fair). If you reserve a CD right off the bat, but don't send
your payment in until months later, then you are going to get your
Precious Things #4 after someone else gets their Precious Things #220.

Once Mike and his wife put the CDs in the mail, it is out of their hands
and in the hands of the US Postal Service. The USPS has screwed Mike over
on shipping before (holding the packaged instead of shipping them because
of a parcel limit), and on recent orders he has gone out of his way to
take packaged to multiple post offices to make sure they get out.

When you're talking about the volume of orders that Mike handles, lost
packages are not uncommon. There seem to be a half dozen or so on every
CD, which isn't too bad, but still sucks. Mike is always good about
resending or tracing an order. If you order a CD, you will get it, or my
    name isn't Chris Ptacek.

The thing about doing business that sucks is that you never get calls when
things go fine. Well, seldom anyway. You will see posts on here about
how cool Mike's CDs are, but the ones that seem to cause the biggest stir
are the ones complaining about a CD running late. It's like working in a
repair center, no one calls when the product works.

I have been trying to sell off the remaining Ytsejam tshirts for some time
now, but orders are practically non-existent because all you ever hear on
the jam is how so and so doesn't fill orders for 6 months or this company
screwed me over. It makes it tough for people like myself and Mike and
Tim Lodge and Jim Colberg to sell stuff, because it makes people distrust
    each other.

I can personally speak for each one of those people. I have ordered 7 CDs
from Mike, 3 from Tim, and 2 from Jim, and I have been very satisfied with
both the quality and the turnaround. I had a tshirt order delayed for
almost a month and a half a while back, and I hated it. When I started
selling them, I was determined to keep the turn around time under a week.
I get your check, your shirt goes out. And that is the way it has worked
out 99% of the time. But that 1% when things are out of your control and
someone who put their trust in you is waiting for the product your
promised, is the worst because all that person has to do is post a
complaint and a notch gets knocked right out of your credibility.

Every one of them is doing a service to the jam, and every one of them
runs their business a little bit differently than the others, so there's
no set guideline, but if you can wait 2 years for the new DT CD, you can
wait 2 months for Mike to put out custom handmade CDs and get them to you.
We all run this businesses on the side as a labor of love. We (at least
Mike and I) make little or no profit from selling this stuff. Hell, I
still owe money for the shirts. But every time that someone posts a
positive comment, or you see the shirt that you are responsible for on
someone's back at a concert, you just smile and know that your effort paid
    off.

I'm sorry for rambling this long, but I'm tired of seeing Mike getting
ragged on the jam when he's doing the best he can with what he has
available. Give him a break, and for his sake, talk to *him* about what's
going on before you slam him in front of 1200 potential customers.

For example, Canadian, Mexican, Cuban, Dominican (Republic), Columbian. But with the United States, you'd get United Statesian, United States of American...

Well, if you were referring to James as being from North America, you'd call him NORTH American for one thing. Secondly, while it's correct to refer to someone from Canada or any other country in America as "American", the term is seldom used in that context. I have never heard the term "American" used in a context other than referring to someone/something from the UNITED STATES of America.

As a Canadian myself, I find it offensive to be called an American, and I'm sure James wouldn't be too happy about being called an American either. So say that to my face, and I'LL FLATTEN YOU LIKE A FUCKING PANCAKE, BOY! :) Speaking of the US/Canada, only 8 hours 'til Donovan Bailey whips their guy's ass.

As far as I know, this Ballard is quite notorious for hitting string of chart topping songs. The fact is, he knows what people want and he knows how to give it to them. I don't think Alanis would be anywhere without him today, but she is, so get over it. If you CAN change history, let me know, however.

    > And what's a Ytsejammer doing listening to Alanis anyway?? She can't sing, > has no stage presence & no real talent. For me, death is preferable to her > music.

Actually, to me, death is preferable to going to a Reba concert, but that's my opinion. What's a ytsejammer doing listening to Alanis? Maybe it has something to do with being able to tolerate various forms of music, regardless of the popularity or stigma that lies behind it. "Alanis can't write her own music, so she's not worthy." Hey, the people who perform Les Miserables didn't write the show, but they happen to perform it rather fucking well. As for singing, there's one song (Hand in my pocket) where she deliberately cracks her voice alot that I don't like. I think she's a wonderful female rock singer. Passion often gives way to ability. As for stage presence, I'd probably never go to one of her concerts anyway.

Nuff 'bout that. KorgX3 a.k.a. Pastor of Muppets ibanez@cyberghighway.net "Yay, yay, ormschperdinki du! Yay bork schperduggin dieder, Bork, Bork Bork!" ---Some Swede Muppet
