I just got a sampler from a band called Eternity X -- you can
get a free sampler tape from their web page (http://www.eternity-x.com).
It's quite impressive. I think that a lot of DT fans, especially those
who like prog-metal, will enjoy Eternity X. Their music is not as
complex as DT's, but it has good dynamics and some cool rhythms. The
vocals are also quite good. The guitar is dominant, but they make very
good use of their keyboards and the drummer keeps things interesting.
Someone mentioned that they thought the band was more metal
than prog and I'd probably agree that the samples from their earlier
albums were mostly influenced by metal. But, their most recent two
albums I would definitely consider prog-metal. The sampler only has
excerpts from the songs, but even so the longer samples had good
variety and changes within the songs. They also have some good
melodies, which is sometimes lacking in prog-metal.
Anyway, give the sampler a shot, or just try their newest CD
"The Edge". I was impressed enough that I'm buying that one.
