Yep, that is what amazes me... What amazes me even more is that there are
people that come to these deadbeat's defense with bs like "They are busy
people" or "They are involved in many trades". Just lame excuses for lame
    people.

Hopefully your two deadbeats won't hang around the jam acting like they
are Mr. Cool unlike Al B.

Best words of advice:If you don't want to get screwed don't trade with
    anyone.

I have this one, too. I like the part in 'Surrounded' where James lets
the guy in the audience sing, and he messes it up. At least I think
    that's on HSH.

BTW, Jason, do you know any good places in Baltimore to get this sort of

I actually know quite a bit about this band. You can get "Last Chance"
and four truly great songs from their second album (called "Hang On For
Your Life Tonight") on "Touch Me Tonight: The Best of Shooting Star" on
Enigma. Dream Disc also had the first two on disc at one point, but I
don't know if they can still get it.

For those that haven't heard the band, it's good stuff - sort of a
Kansas feel (the violin helps that), but they're not quite as complex.
"Last Chance" is a truly great song, and "Flesh and Blood" is one of the
most emotional ballads I've ever heard. Their third album, "Three
Wishes", wasn't as good IMO, and they pretty much vanished until the
released "Touch Me Tonight" back in '89 or '90, I think. The new stuff
    is more straight ahead pop.

It's funny, this was the first DT boot I ever got (after seeing them
four times on the Images tour), and I like it. it's kind of raw, but as
Jason said above, it's not a soundboard, either. James does sound great
on this one, but I wish it _did_ have Status Seeker on it. In fact, now
that I think about it, this show was recorded like a week before the
first time I saw them. Wierd, I don't know what made me remember that...

    I think it's worth 20 -25 bucks, but I wouldn't go over that.

Well, buried in one of my posts off long lost past was some information
on this subject. Whilst in the NL recently (hehehehe), I was able to
speak with Mr. Neil of fanclub fame about a variety of things. One was
that the band (I believe MP in particular) was pondering the idea of
providing goodies like live concert excerpts to members of the fan club
    sort of like Fish does.

Specifically, Fish puts out a double live CD after most tours. This is
not quite "official release" quality but it sounds great as it is taken
directly from the sound board via DAT (Itchy, correct me if I am wrong).
If there is a missed note or two, so what. You get the essence of a
    real live performance.

This would do a number of things. First and foremost, it would be
GREAT, of course. Secondly, it would boost fanclub membership. And
lastly, it would put a _slight_ damper on bootlegging. A win-win
    situation in my book.

I think that this is something that the jam could actually have some
influence on. Anyone else have ideas ??

My opinion is : you can like any kind of music. Since you respect my musical
taste (I must say is prog/metal) i will respect your taste.
But I have not seen this "punk artists" saying good things about
progressive music. As far as they don't give the real value to prog music,
i can't give them my respect.

<I don't give a flying fuck about "prog", I listen to what I think sounds
    good.
Just *try* to tell me that GNR, Allman Brothers, or Sabbath (three of my
    favorite bands) are prog. >

Ok. But why do you like DT?Or do you think they are not progressive?
I have read a lot of people calling DT of Heavy Metal. They are. Half.
The other part is progressive. Together they form (IMO) the most cool and
interesting kind of music: Progressive Metal.

    Just my opinion dudes.

I just got a sampler from a band called Eternity X -- you can
get a free sampler tape from their web page (http://www.eternity-x.com).
It's quite impressive. I think that a lot of DT fans, especially those
who like prog-metal, will enjoy Eternity X. Their music is not as
complex as DT's, but it has good dynamics and some cool rhythms. The
vocals are also quite good. The guitar is dominant, but they make very
good use of their keyboards and the drummer keeps things interesting.
Someone mentioned that they thought the band was more metal
than prog and I'd probably agree that the samples from their earlier
albums were mostly influenced by metal. But, their most recent two
albums I would definitely consider prog-metal. The sampler only has
excerpts from the songs, but even so the longer samples had good
variety and changes within the songs. They also have some good
melodies, which is sometimes lacking in prog-metal.
Anyway, give the sampler a shot, or just try their newest CD
"The Edge". I was impressed enough that I'm buying that one.

As far as her not being talented, thats a crock of bull. It takes balls to
put out an album and perform in front of an audience. If it was that easy to
make it, most of you would be doing it too.

Heehee...well said. Anywho...I won't be the one to tell you any of those
    bands are prog,
because they're not and never have been. But what defines a band as being
    progressive, anyways?

In my opinion, if a band meets 3 criteria, they can safely be considered
    progressive. The 3 critera are:
1> Do they play extensively in odd-meter? Sometimes within the same song?
2> Do they have a bottomless pit of excellent songs that are reallllllly
    long?
3> Do they have a strange, or fantasy-related name?
A band who plays in only 4/4, 2/4, or anything over a 4 beat, they can't be
prog. A band like DT, who plays in meter over 4, 8, 12 and 16...now that's
prog. Example: the last phrase of the UAGM solo is 22/16. And the whole
instrumental section following the solo is in 7/8.

So, who really fits and who doesn't? Well, let's start with who does, and
    some songs as examples.
    DT <Almost anything>, Fate's Warning <The Ivory Gate Of Dreams>, Genesis,
    Queensryche, Yes, etc.
Who doesn't is a bad choice of words. How about borderline prog, and why?
    Well, only one comes
to mind. My favorite band next to DT:
    Savatage-Definitely fit into categories 2 & 3, but don't really use
    odd-meter alot.
This may be open to interpretation. Feel free to point out more, or e-mail
    omissions to me.

    Laterness...

You're right, these guys are great. They will be playing a concert with
REO Speedwagon & another group in Kansas City soon. The date has already
been announced, but I live in Seattle now & I don't think they will be
up this way (I don't think it is a tour for Shooting Star). They are
from the KC area. When I was in HS, one of my friends was dating a girl
who would babysit for Verlin. A few years ago, they had a farewell
concert, I think it was during the Christmas break. I know that they had
sold quite a bit of their sound gear (nothing new for a band to do that,
though). Lots of their songs like Hollywood, Hang On For Your Life,
still get alot of airplay in KC. If you can find it, get their greatest
hits album / CD. If you like Last Chance, you'll like the rest of them.

Perhaps she had been working for Zappa, found out MP digs him and decided to keep her streak going... :)

Good for him! I mean, aren't there _any_ surprises left in the world? :)

Hello, Graham, I got a tape of Uncovered from Rogerio Brito with Happiness is a Warm gun on it. Might want to check with him for a trade. Or if you don't mind second gen., mail me.

    >Yet another who doesn't finish reading posts... I went on to say "I >don't, but it's just my opinion." I get some compliments, but they >embarrass me.

I finished reading it. If you recall your post also said I couldn't take a joke, I guess you can't either. Or did you just ignore the smiley? On a DT compilation: >You're obviously not familiar with the mindset of modern label execs.

Actually, in light of the success of Megadeth's Hidden Treasures, I would think that this is a good idea. But then again, DT isn't on Capitol... On the Lie single: >It was very easy to find when I bought it in '94.

Unfortunately I didn't start looking early enough. I waited until mid-1995. Nowhere to be seen by then. If someone wants to put one up for bid, I think it might pay off. I can't even find the Megadeth "Trust" single anywhere in NJ.

    >Elvis Presley is the "king of rock and roll,

Implying that he's not? Ooooh.... treading on sacred ground here.

    >GAT (Gangsta Aptitude Tess)

Snicker, snicker...:) Vince wrote; >If you know where these lyrics came from, you're either a great >Megadeth fan,

Ummm... Mechanix? Aka The Four Horsemen. I love it when someone asks a question I know. Still have to redeem myself after that black/white debacle...
