It's already gone from being the rage of the list to a major faux pas to
mention, huh? What you say is interesting, though, and it reminds me of a
lot of the things you hear about Marillion albums, in particular, "Brave."
Because there's something going on for the entirety of the piece, your ears
don't really get a rest and, after a while, it can be hard to hold on to
some of those musical ideas. It takes a lot of listening to really get into
an hour of continuous musical ideas if they aren't provided as discrete
pieces. The same is, to some extent, true for "The Wall," too.

Thanks to the person who pointed out the hardradio page.
I read the interview with Ray Alder. He said that Fates
was going to carry a camera crew with them for three weeks
on the road in Europe and record everything for a full
length video. (yes!) Also he said the US tour would start
on July 25, but I don't know how accurate that is. I forget
to check all the Fates sites on the web. Does anyone have
info.
Just my luck, I will be in LA when Megadeth plays in SF. Damn!
Anyways, I am out of here in a week. By the way, don't send
anything to a guy named Dan in Philadelphia. We won't give
anything back.

Greetings again from out of the shadows. I recently picked up the new
Faith No More disk "Album of the Year" and thought I'd get my two cents
in. As far as I'm concerned the album is appropriately titled. There
are some killer jams on this one and it's not as obnoxiously rap
sounding as "Epic" - very melodic, yet rockin' stuff. I love "Last Cup
of Sorrow," which is the first single, but it pales in comparison to the
rest of the album. "Ashes to Ashes" is probably the best song I've
heard from a band all year and tunes like "Pristina," "Paths of Glory,"
and "Stripsearch" scream hit single. Even if you have been a mild FNM
fan, you'll really dig this one and for old fans, Jon Hudson's shredding
should appease you as much as his predecessor.
BTW, someone posted about a band called "Dream STH" - it's actually
Drain STH, they are an all girl band from Stockholm, Sweden and are
touring with Ozzfest. The single is "I Don't Mind" and it does rock!!
I'm also anxiously awaiting getting the debut from Jimmie's Chicken
Shack, which comes out on Tuesday 6/10/97. I've heard the first single
"High" and it rules!! Catch you all later...

In my previous post, I mentioned the US Tour Fund for Marillion and the special limited edition (1000 copies) numbered (possibly *signed*) live album that will be given to the first 1000 contributors of $25 and over. Instead of just posting how you can contribute, I have decided to post the *flier* that was sent out to the members of the Marillion fan club, "The Web USA". That way, you know exactly what is going on. I *thought* there were still 600 copies or so left... Turned out to be only 383 :-) So if you're interested, donate $30 as soon as possible, to make *sure* you'll end up with this collector's item. Btw, there *is* going to be a tour, that much is for certain. The dates are yet to be announced.
<start of flier>
"Recently, Mark Kelly made an appearance on the Internet to talk about tour dates for the upcoming Marillion release of "This Strange Engine". His comments led many to believe that there would not be a North American Tour at all this time.
The Afraid of Sunlight North American Tour in 1995 stopped in 16 cities, yet lost an estimated $30,000, mainly due to poor support and faith from the various tour promoters. If you were Marillion, would you spend thousands of your hard earned dollars to tour for $12 per ticket and low booking fees? The prospects for a Strange Engine Tour appeared bleak.
Many of us on the Internet found this to be unacceptable. We wanted a tour, and we wanted our favorite band to at least break even on it. Since tour promoters won't listen to us when we say that Marillion is worth $25 a ticket and double the booking fee they've historically been paid in the Americas, we've taken matters into our own hands.
It is our goal to raise $40,000 USD to ensure a US Tour of epic proportions -- one that we can hope will include new stops on the West coast and in the Midwest and South, in addition to the traditional Northeast.
We are looking for one thousand of the most dedicated Marillion fans to donate funds to support a tour. All money collected will go to Marillion for a North American Tour, or will be returned in the event our effort fails. We hope Marillion can use the goodwill and positive press we generate here to negotiate higher booking fees and more shows.
We will be attempting to get media coverage from music magazines and local and national newspapers as the effort grows. The publicity this unprecedented show of support generates could be Marillion's big break in America. We cannot let this opportunity pass us or Marillion by!
If a tour does happen as a result of our efforts, Mark Kelly has agreed to press one thousand limited edition CD's recorded on the tour we made possible. These CD's will not be available in stores, or from the fan clubs.
These CDs may be individually numbered and signed will be sent free to the first thousand donors of at least $25 USD. Because our goal is $40,000 and there are only a thousand discs, won't you consider sending at least $40 today?
The more we raise, the more cities Marillion can play over a wider area. Your donation of $25, $50, or even $100 can help bring a Marillion Tour this fall to a city near you. A postage-paid envelope has been provided for your convenience.
Please make your check payable to "Marillion Tour 97" and send it, along with your name, address, and telephone number to:
Marillion Tour 97 Attn: Jeff Woods deltaComm Internet Services 507 Airport Boulevard, Suite 109 Morrisville, NC 27560
We can also accept Mastercard, VISA, or American Express pledges at 1-800-948-2808 or 919-467-1167 between 9 am and 6 pm Eastern time. Credit cards will be billed by "Deltacomm / Telix" on your credit card statement.
All funds will be held in escrow in an interest-bearing account. If the tour happens, the interest will go to Marillion. If the tour does NOT happen, the interest will be used to return the funds to the contributors in full, and any remaining interest will go to Marillion.
Contributions will be held in escrow -- there will be only one of two possible ways this money ever leaves the fund account: 1) A single check payable to Marillion when they book the tour; 2) A bunch of small checks (or credit card refunds) back directly to the contributors who put it there. The funds will be returned as unused immediately upon Marillion stating on the Internet that there unequivocally will not be a US Tour for "This Strange Engine". Otherwise, they'll go to Marillion within 30 days of the announced first date. If nothing happens either way, the funds will be considered unused, and will be returned no later than September 30, 1997.
What if you donate, and they still don't play near you? Well, I live in Cary, NC and I can assure you, it is highly unlikely that we'll see them this far south, even with the fund. This fund is not to ensure that they play in your town -- it is to ensure that they play.period. If you give, and the nearest show is a thousand miles away, there will be no refunds.
I can say that if we achieve our goal, the west coast becomes a much more likely place for a tour -- with $40,000 raised, we may see shows in San Jose, Los Angeles, and Seattle; there is a possibility of Texas and New Orleans seeing a show, too. Again, there are no promises as to where shows might be; it's strictly a function of how much we raise. Marillion has told me they don't want to profit by this, only to break even, and that they'll play as many dates as can be afforded. So give early, give often, give a lot, and this Strange Engine of a fan club can help assure that we will have a widespread tour for the new CD, and that it will be the best ever.
All the best Freaks are receiving this, so send in your donation now to guarantee that you'll receive your limited edition Strange Engine Tour CD! Thank you for your assistance, and I'll see you at the shows!
This fund drive is not being conducted by Marillion or by the Web USA. It is an individual fan-based effort suggested on the Internet by Jeff Pelletier, and has acquired a life of its own in a few short days. Marillion Tour 97 is a sole proprietorship set up by Jeff Woods for the sole purpose of conducting this fund drive. Contributions are not tax deductible as charitable gifts.

"Pull Me Under" is based on "Hamlet." I think the FAQ has a pretty good explanation.

Hey everyone,
Okay I can now truly say I hate my computer. My old email program won't let me do anything except read my old email. So, I haven't been able to send a post about CD dealers. :-/
Nicole R. Stachowicz (mis)wrote: > I made 2 mistakes in my last post about the ending to PME (not TTT as I > had stated). Hmm...PME is this some really, REALLY rare b-side?
I got some reviews so here goes...
Bruce Dickingson(Balls To Picasso)-I went out to look for AoB but nobody around here has it! So, I picked this up for 4 bucks. I like the cover. BUT I like the music better, its pretty good if you like Bruce's voice(which I do).
ALERT ALERT RE-REVIEW ALERT ALERT Echolyn(as the world)-Okay, those of you who have good memories remember me posting about how I didn't like Echolyn last year(come on I know someone here remembers everything I say...well you all should). Well I came full circle. I was listening to all my CDs I hadn't listened to in awhile(AiC, KMFDM, Silverchair, STP, Pearl Jam). I saw Echolyn just sitting there sad, and pathetic looking(not really it just adds to the story). So, I started listening to it, and this time it sounded upbeat and mellow instead of "it sux!" ;) Everybody who said they were willing to sell their "as the world" listen to it again!
ELP(Brain Salad Surgey)- "We stuck up for the penis" Lake. That's what I first heard come out of speakers. It seems that I pressed the back button and the volume was really low(I was also doing homework). I turned up the volume and I hear this!?! Well this isn't what I was expecting. I was thinking more of keyboard heavy music(which is in there...everywhere). The drums and guitars are good, too. It took a couple of listenings but I like. Oh, for those of you who don't have this great line in their CDs its because I got some reissue.
Lemur Voice(Insights)-Tommie likie. I don't know why I didn't pick this up earlier(oh yeah, money). "Marcel when you coming over here!" But really I like this album. Marcel tell Nathan to keep up with the lyrics. The musianship is *really* good but the lyrics are very thought provoking(psst, those of you who don't have this CD that's good thing).
Frank Zappa(Does Humor Belong In Music)-Okay, bear with me, this is my first Zappa album. I thought it was pretty darn funny especially Tinsel-Town Rebellion. I can even play parts of this song(that's a plus because it makes me good even though its only the Woody Wood Pecker theme and I'll Tumble For You). Hmm, I think I'll go look for more of Frankie baby's stuff.

Hey there, eveyone..
First off- I knew the Wings would kick ass. Obligatory RWC, had to be done. Eternity-X's new CD.. Second- I received the new Eternity-X CD, "The Edge", this weekend. After thoroughly digesting it, I can say that it is overall, one of the Top 3 best CDs I've ever heard. With the addition of keyboardist Jamie Mazur, who is classically trained and is just as good as any keyboardist I've ever heard, Eternity-X is a force to be contended with. Anyone who is into progressive rock/metal, or just rock in general, shoud HAVE this disc. There have been some here who are unwilling to give Eternity-X a chance because the band hates rap, and more power to them.. I disagree 100%, but that's their decision. Yngwie is a conceited asshole, but many, many people listen to him regardless, and it's because of his talent. So don't let thier stance on rap be a deterrent to your listening to this CD, is all I'm saying. It has a very .. "large" sound. It's a concept album about people living on or over the edge of sanity. The songs flow together well. The guitar is much improved, with Jeff Shernov making beautiful transitions between shredding and tasteful soloing. This guy really knows when to play what. The singing is as good (better, probably) than it has ever been. The drums and bass both (thankfully) have a much more prominent sound. The technical ability of this band blows me away. For a very rough outline of this CD to compare.. I'd say the band sounds kinda like Shadow Gallery, but with much more balls (HEAVIER), much better lyrics, and with more of a "classical" keyboard sound (and more refined sound overall) as opposed to the almost "medieval" sound that SG has. Well, rant's over. Do yourself a HUGE favor, and shell out the $13 for the CD. WWW.ETERNITY-X.COM

Hey jammers-
I just came back from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida visiting my brother and fellow jammer Elliott Kim. It was very cool. For one thing, I got my brother into Lemur Voice and Atomic Opera.
And hanging with the E-Man was cool as balls. We went to this kick ass place called The Now Art Cafe. Anyways, Elliott knew the guitarist that plays there (Michael Bianco, btw, who is an incredible new age jazz guitar player). Well we were there on a wednesday night and thursday night is "open mike night" where anyone can come on stage and just jam. So Bianco ended his set by saying "and don't forget that tomorrow is open mike night where you'll see Elliott Petrucci perform." It was pretty funny.
I also finally got to see Elliott's JPM 100. Oh man, it was very cool. He even taught me the intro to "to live forever." You should see this guy's room...it's bathed in DT. Yeah, he's obsessed (but then again, what jammer isn't?) :)
So it was fun hanging with him. It's cool hanging with jammers because you can talk the shit out of Dream Theater and the other guy won't get mad. It's kind of like we're all part of a cult. Yeah, our slogan could be "voices in my head."
