I'm not sure what Di'anno is up to these days, but a friend of mine has a disc
called "All-Stars of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal" that was recorded in
1991, and Di'anno sings on one of the tracks. Pretty cool CD, it has a bunch of
people from bands like Mantis, the *original* Iron Maiden (including their
original guitar player (along with Dave Murray), Dennis Stratton). This same
friend also happened upon a 2 disc set in a local used cd shop last week, called
"'79 Revisited: The New Wave of British Heavy Metal." It has 30 kick ass
tracks, selected by Lars Ulrich. There's stuff by Mantis, Diamondhead,
Witchfynde, Witchfinder General, Def Leppard before they were 80's glam, Weapon,
Hallowed Ground...man, it rules! It has the original "Sanctuary" by Maiden, from
the Soundhouse tapes, with Di'anno, Murray, and a bunch of guys you've never
heard of. Janick Gers, who replace Adrian Smith in Maiden, is also in one of
the bands (and he was actually good back then!). If anyone ever sees this, pick
it up! I'm not sure how hard to find it is, but I've never seen it before.
And as long as I'm on the Maiden subject, has anyone heard the new Bruce
Dickinson? All I've heard is the first single, "Accident of Birth," and it
rules!

Speaking of Maiden, I stumbled across a record the other day, something
like "Maiden Live '83". It was on VINYL. I'm not
really into Maiden these days, but I just thought I'd mention it for
kicks. I didn't check the price, either. If this interests any Bay Area
Jammers, I saw it at some hole-in-the-wall record store on Market Street
in San Francisco. Somewhere near 7th street, I forget exactly where
though, but it was on the North side of the street if that helps.

Went to OzzFest over the weekend, and had a blast. I have a few questions
about Ozzy's band -
1) He has Faith No More's drummer (his name escapes me right now) playing
with both him and with Sabbath. Is he still with FNM? If not, who replaced
him?
2) I'd swear I'd seen the guitarist (Joe? Jon? Holmes) performing with
someone else. Please somebody prove I'm not crazy here.

To me this doesn't make any sense. Since Megadeth hasn't toured with DT they aren't progressive? If you ask some prog fans they'll tell you the same thing about DT; they're Metal, not progressive.
in 1967 Jimi Hendrix opened for the Monkees, does this mean he doesn't know how to play the guitar or that if you're over 12 you can't enjoy his music?
