One depressing thing you have to realise about the Grammy's is this:
All the nominations and voting is done by other people in the music
industry (namely musicians) So we can't really blame the public for the
outcome. I know several of my teachers of school vote for the Grammy's
(and I'd back their choices about 100% of the time....as for the rest of
    the voters......)
Anyways, that's just my 2 cents.

Warrant (not spelled Warrent). They're always really cool to opening

Sometimes musicians have to make a choice between signing with a major
label and taking all the good and bad "stuff" together. One of the bad
things is that the record company has a lot of say about your music. You
are not completely free to do whatever you want with your music. But, on
the other hand, you do get more exposure than you would if you were on an
independent label. One of the great things about being on an independent
label is that you can do whatever you want with your music(for the most
part). It might behoove DT to sign with an independent label in the
future. They are not getting any exposure from the record company of
which they are a part right now anyway. Many DT fans are "die-hard" fans
anyway, they will but whatever the band puts out, regardless of the label
or exposure by the record company.

I have to disagree here. I've ordered a lot of stuff from R.A.M. The last
thing I ordered was "Mood Swings" by Harem Scarem. It took 4 fuckin'
months. Last year I ordered a Nelson import (laugh, if you dare) and it
took 3 months for that. I haven't been ripped off by them, but I don't
set my watch by them either.

    > of listeners, even though QR doesn't want to..

I didn't see the show, so I don't know if QR was used as an actual
example or not, but this is not entirely true. Some bands are
contractually required to deliver a product to the label that meets
certain "artistic" requirements and the label has the right to say "cool"
or "back to the drawing board." But some bands (usually the ones with
more bargining power) have it in their contract that the music only has
to meet certain techincal requirements, meaning that regardless of
content, if the product is recorded well (ie, not in a basement with a
boom-box) then it is considered satisfactory. Of course, that doesn't
necessarily mean that the company has to release the album, but that's a
    whole other can o'worms.

    Take a reference from
    > the show as to what happened to Peter Frampton. Look at Metallica.
    > It makes me wonder if they actually enjoy the change in their
    > lifestyles they had to make after making Load. They're different
    > now.

This is not consistent with the theory you proposed above. The black
album was the most successful album in Metallica's history, and all the
albums leading up to it (if I'm not mistaken) show a remarkable sales
increase. Therefore, it would stand to reason that the band is actually
enjoying Load since it is not trying to follow-up a flop. That, plus the
fact that over the summer Metallica was having HUGE problems with
Elektra, according to Metal Edge, leads me to believe that their contract
was renegotiated so that Elektra wouldn't loose a cash-cow like
Metallica. And I'm sure one of the points in the new contract would be to
knock down as many artistic restrictions as possible.

                                            Richie

P.S. As far as this "Turning Point"-thing goes, what network was it on?
I'm hoping to go to their web site and check out a transcription of the
    show, if available.

    Subject: Atlanta venues for DT
    Message-ID: <199703020922.AA04128@crl2.crl.com>

Atlanta is now considered a "venue-poor" city despite (and maybe
because of) the Olympic Games. Anyway.....

Best venue if the album does well: The Fox Theater (yes, it is
spelled correctly in Real Life :)) Capacity 4,500, good
acoustics, classiest venue in this burg.
Alternates: Atlanta Civic Center, cap. c. 4,000, actually a nice
facility but it is apparently a union hall.
International Ballroom: capacity variable (the entire stage
moves). 1,500, 3,500 or 5,000. Very casual venue, poor
acoustics, much-improved facilities; due to a change in ownership the
venue may no longer be booking mainstream rock shows.

Best venue if the album does so-so or poorly:
The Roxy Theater, capacity 2,000. Can be configured for seating
or general-admission, fair amount of class, good acoustics.
     Alternates:
The Variety Playhouse, cap. c. 500 I think. Fair amount of
         class, good acoustics.
The Point: this is a small room, too small for DT unless
the album completely bombs, but it's well-respected in the city.
         Capacity c. 200.
The Cotton Club: capacity c. 500, basically a large bar, but
         well-regarded in town.
Atlanta Symphony Hall: capacity c. 500. Not normally booked for
rock shows but Dead Can Dance played there recently. whoo-hoo!
The Masquerade: capacity c. 800. Rotten acoustics and poor band
facilities (as DT will no doubt remember). Bad staff attitudes
         too. Not recommended.

The Center Stage, where DT played on one visit during the I&W tour, is
no longer operating as a regular venue.
Larger venues (yea, suure). The Omni will be a hole in the ground
during DT's likely touring period, but if the CD keeps getting
delayed, maybe they can play in the new basketball venue being built
    there, scheduled to open c. 1999. :)
Lakewood Amphitheater, capacity c. 19,000, not available in winter.:)

nah, i believe it goes like this- meatloaf is a big ol sweaty dude, he runs around onstage in the seventies, sings some songs, one day he drops his watch in the toilet, reaches down, gets his hand stuck, sits there like a dumbass too embarassed to call for help and finds some liquid draino, frees his hand, some guy comes here the next day and gets the room and urinates there, goes out and gets drunk with his friends, acts like a dick to some girls, this guy has children who act like he does, one of his sons happens to be at a party with LaBrie, gets drunk, acts like a dick to some females, passes out, and james urinates on him.

    the end. ~Rip
