    >Can some tell me what ditty DT plays on the Milan boot right after
    >OAMOT? Sounds like some Fusion/Jazz number that maybe someone else
    >wrote.

What you are wondering about is the instrumental outro to March of the Tyrant
    - a song that appeared on the 1986 (Majesty) demo with Chris Collins on
    vocals.

    >On this boot there is another piece that I can't identify
    >either, it's also Jazz/Fusion oriented, but I can't recall exactly
    >where it is on the CD.

If it's the instrumental following immediately after TLF, the song is called
Barfbag (no kidding!) even though it is listed as Moon Bubbles/Showdown on the
    WDATU boot.

    -------

Well everyone, I just saw Rainbow last night and for me it was a mixed review.
It was cool to see Blackmore back on stage again, but it wasn't the most
impressive show I've ever seen (despite the new singer's attempts to hype the
mostly 35+ year old crowd). I will say that the new keyboardist Paul(?)
Morris is a phenomenal player (at least he can play extremely fast classical
style stuff - dunno how he is about writing music) and I was surprised to see
that Jay Michele <sp?> is playing drums. Those of you Threshold fans out
there may remember Jay from the Livedelica EP they put out. For me the real
pisser was that they only played a 75 minute show (this includes the encore).
Dunno why - have they played that short of a show elsewhere? They started
pretty late, but still... And I thought is was bad when Live played less than
90 minutes last week! (Let's not forget that White, Discussion wasn't played!)
Oh well, no use crying over spilt milk, but I dunno if I'll bother seeing
Rainbow again next time they come around.

Any word on the current condition of Jason Becker? I heard that his condition
had worsened somewhat lately. I have been listening to "Perspective" quite a
bit, and the man never ceases to amaze me. His ailment is simply the greatest
tragedy that has ever occurred in the guitar-centric world...

I also like Nuno's new album. It is quite varied in style. I notice
he even plays around with a "trip hop" type sound on a couple of
tracks...and it works! Fallen Angel is a great tune, even though some
of his choruses are slightly cheesy. Some of the stuff sounds
reminicent of Extreme, but a lot less than you'd expect. You can see
where most of Extreme's musical and lyrical talent came from after
    listening to Schizophonic.

Both good songs, agreed. I was referring more to how successfull the albums were in the marketplace.

Just curious as I dont' know, but how many big hits were off that album? Zep II????

Aerosmith's early stuff like Toys in the Attic. How many off that album? How many off the newer ones?

Yesterday after buying my two imports, Veni Domine and Seige's Even, I went to good old Best Buy to pick up a few other things. I found Dragon Attack - the Queen tribute as done by "metal" players, and Glenn Tipton's "Baptizm of Fire."

Like I said before, Veni Domine (let's not shorten this to VD) really reminds me of Candlemass (not quite as muddy as the earlier stuff, more like Chapter VI) as fronted by mid-80's Geoff Tate. It's not progressive per se, but it does have some interesting parts. Sort like a slower Crimson Glory. Lyrics seem religiously based. I haven't studied the liner notes, so I can't be sure. I would recommend this if you like doomy prog w/keys and the higher-register singers. A plus is that the disc runs more than 60 minutes, which is more than I say about the under-length...

Dragon Attack. I really, really recommend this album. If you ever liked Queen from the late 70's, you will especially enjoy this. I grew up on the late-70's Queen, so hearing lots of tunes from that era, and a minimum from later, more boring (in my opinion) Queen, especially kicks my ass. Seven of the eleven tracks are from the 70's. The musicianship is *top notch* and the vocal lines are well done, for the most part. Someone commented on the 'jam that Paul Shortino butchered "We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions." Whoever said that just about hit the nail on the head. I find those two songs to be the low point of the tribute. But, boy are there high points! The Blue Murder rhythm section destroys things admirably, Lemmy teams with Ted Nugent, Rudy Sarzo and Tommy Aldridge for a rousing version of "Tie Your Mother Down." My personal favorite is the album's closing track, "It's Late," which was always one of my, if not *the*, favorite Queen tracks. John Bush (Armored Saint/Anthrax vox) sounds strangely gruff here, but boy does it work. I got the chills listening to this. Yngwie manages not to ruin Brian May's work on "Keep Yourself Alive," and Glenn Hughes ought to go into the R&B "oh baby" genre with his work on "Get Down, Make Love." As for our very own JLB, well, he does a good job on his two tracks, but he doesn't really stand out to me. You can defintely tell it's him. I guess I was too busy listening to Marty Friedman on "Sheer Heart Attack," which is probably my second favorite Queen track of all time. Speaking of Brian May, that leads me to...

Glenn Tipton's Baptizm of Fire. What does he have to do with Brian May, you might ask? Beside the fact they are British, they both had Cozy Powell on their solo albums, and other minor coincidences, my point here is that when I first listened to Back to the Light, BM's first solo cd, I was immediately struck by how much he must have contributed to the "queen-sound." I found myself hearing bits of Queen stuff, and vocal melodies, etc. The same is true of Glenn's CD. I hear lots of Priest on this one. Everyone gives Halford all the credit for Priest, but I am here to say that Tipton put in quite a bit of himself. The soloing is very Priest-ish, and he does his own vocals, which are no match for Halford, but aren't *too* bad. This cd is suprisingly heavy. I even hear some old, old (seventies-era) Priest in here now and then. If you liked Painkiller and heavy metal in general - I would endorse the purchase of this cd. Billy Sheehan adds some remarkable bass work along with ST's Robert Trujillo, and even John Entwistle puts in work on one tune. The drummers include the aforementioned Cozy Powell, and ex- Souls at Zero/Wrathchild America, current UKJ man Shannon Larkin. As for the...

Seige's Even CD? Well, so far it is reminiscent of Watchtower a bit in the bass and drum work, but...well, it's probably too early to say. So far, I am not getting into it. Vocalist sort of blows. It's a little Rush-like, too. Well, I may grow into this one. Who knows? This has been long enough.

    GO WINGS!

Vai is not a singer. His singing is good, but Townsend's is great. It's just a matter of opinion whether you like it or not, the guy has the vocal chords and he knows how to use them. If he likes to sing, he sings, and if he prefers screaming, he does scream at the top of his lungs. Townsend's voice is bigger, lots more powerful and has more range.

To put it in a nutshell: you just don't like Devin. It doesn't make Steve a better singer.

I wonder what would happen if one were to ask LaBrie to sign this...like backstage after a DT show. "When are you guys touring?" "You're in two bands at once?" How the hell do you sing all these high parts in BOTH bands?!" "How come your hair looks so different in these album photos?" "You really oughta drop this Dream stuff and go with THESE guys!"

BWAK?! Winger's broken up? Does that mean Reb Beach's 1994 solo album will get here quicker?

Andy Timmons? Geez, Kip's really winging it this time.

    > Lots of acoustic guitar (played by Kip mostly) and drumming by Rod > Morgenstein.

Look, I can understand no Paul Taylor, but no Reb Beach???

So now I hear DT's going to be playing a bunch of Europe shows. I can't imagine ANY band doing a cover of "The Final Countdown," but I guess DT's up to the challenge.

Wait, actual DT shows IN Europe, like the continent. Hmmm. Seattle's not in Europe. This touring stuff would be a lot easier if someone would wise up and put the continents back together.

That photo of Sheryl Crow in her new album looks exactly like Brandon Lee in the movie "The Crow." Wonder if that was intentional?

But what about those planets? Those planets in "Star Wars" were GLORIOUS! If you haven't seen this re-vamped classic yet, forget about Darth Vader and the Death Star and all that shinola and see it just for the orange and turquoise planets! Dream Theater rules!

To be frank, I for one am majorly pissed off. Though it was cool to travel around Europe, it's very uncool to miss a great show just because it's some thousand kilometers away from you.

I'd pay any price and go to the gig any time of the day, but I'm definitely not going out of my way to prove I like Dream Theater. Thus I like to stay within one area and go on with the usual non-vacational stuff.

If the management thinks the band gains more attention by avoiding some parts of the world, well... They're wrong.

Some of you who care where Estonia is... Go check some 60 miles south of Finland. It's not exactly a god-forsaken land.

I'd like to add that Uli is Marty Friedman's main influence. Uli, when he's not busy ruining his songs with his painful vocals (IMO... listen for yourself and decide) is a VERY talented guitarist. There are solos on some of his post Scorpions stuff that even Friedman admits he can't play. He's technically brilliant... I just want more instrumentals, and less of his vocals. :) He plays a 7 string with a high A string, and I think that one or both of his parents were classical musicians. I've heard rumors about him being a violinist as well. Great player tho.
