Agreed. It was the first one that I bought and I was only semi
impressed. But, after purchasing IaW and ACOS, I came back to Awake and
it did a lot more for me. I guess once you see DT develop, you enjoy
    their work that much more.

    > Alex Lifeson releases Victor: After 2 months of trying to like it, I said
    > screw it, and I sold it.

Really? I enjoyed it from the get go. Granted, the lyrics are not all
that hot but I really enjoy the music. It is a little heavier, unlike
most of the recent Rush material.

    > Rush: Test For Echo: Not a bad album, but not a great one either, IMO. I
    > expected better.

Definately. I was and am still disappointed with this album. I taped
the radio preview with the interviews before the CD came out. It sounded
good then but once the CD came out it just didn't do it. BUT, I am still
waiting for Rush to tour Canada and I will see as many as possible,
    because it's RUSH!!

I read some interesting thing about this band. The are a black metal band
that incorporates prog and classical and have long songs. I was wondering
if any jammers that have heard their music and can give me a lowdown on the
    band. Rock nadz?

It's a very good album. The songs called Fire Garden Suite, Brother, all about eve, There's a fire in the house are really great. I think that if you listen to this album, you will surely buy it, if you follow your philosophy !.

Well, in my own personal opinion, this is the best Steve Vai's album so far.
Steve has reached a musical maturity that is clearly expressed in
compositions like "Fire Garden Suite", the best track of the album. The
solos are impressive, and he left behind that "flashy attitude". The album
contains 18 tracks, giving a total running time of about 76 minutes, so you
finish fully satisfied after listening to it. It is divided in two phases,
phase one is instrumental and phase two has vocals (except for the last
track). Steve does the vocal parts, and he sings much, much better than
Devin Townsend (vocalist in Vai's Sex & Religion). What can I say?, BUY IT!,
    it's a must.

I love Zep's early stuff just for the feel of it, but I don't think anyone can
deny that as far as the level of musicianship, the last few albums were way
beyond the early stuff. Much more to the songs, more layers. I think Achilles'
Last Stand is one of their best songs, also Ten Years Gone - both from later
    albums. Just my opinion.

Si, there's a few "Italian" ytse's just outside of

info on DT and other great bands.

    **** 5 Choice Albums of the 90's ****

    1. ALL of DT's albums
    2. Purple, STP
    3. Scenery and Fish, I Mother Earth
    4. Youthanasia, Megadeth
    5. Load, Met.

P.S. Personally I think the music on LOAD is better than some of
the "old" crap. You all need to remember that people mature and
change the music so it always sounds "FRESH."

..and once again, Scandinavia gets screwed by DT or
their management or whoever makes these decisions.

(if you don't know what the 'again' part means, it refers
to summer 95 when they were booked to play at a Finnish
festival, where I had tix, but cancelled a few days before
    the event).

Don't get me wrong, I'm not that pissed off, since
these dates were spontaneous and all that, I'm just

He is German musician. His career started from Scorpions (1970s),and after
leaving Scorpions he organized Electric Sun (they left 3albums). But he fed
up with music buisiness,so he hid himself from music scene. But last year

    Ytsedudes and Ytsedudettes,
Well I just picked up a couple new CD's last night and I thought I'd give
y'all the scoop on what I think... Here we go:

1.) Savatage - Ghost in the Ruins $26.99 Import at Soundwaves, Houston, TX.
If you like Jon Oliva on vocals with these guys... THIS IS THE DISC TO
HAVE!! This CD is the Criss Oliva tribute CD available ONLY as an import.

    ------------------------------

    2.) Andy Timmons - Ear X-tasy Blockbuster Music - $14.99
Those of you who are not familiar with this dude, may recognize the name of
his previous band, Danger Danger. That's right boys and girls, from the
land of hairspray and cheese-songs, comes a SERIOUS shredding talent from
Dallas, Texas. If you are into Satriani, Uhrich, Beach, etc.. You'll
really dig this dude. Mr. Timmons keeps things very interesting and knows
when to shred and when to just let the vibe rule the tune. From his
country swingin' little romp, "Farmer Sez" to his Stevie Ray Vaughn
blues/rocker, "I Remember Stevie" to the rocking opener, "Carpe Diem", this
guy shows off some great chops and musicianship. This CD is an independent
release put out by Andy. I'm not sure if ALL BB Music stores will be able
to snag this sucker for y'all, but I can always grab some and ship 'em to
ya if you'd like. This is the album that Joe Satriani should have put out
rather than that blues-boredom thing he called "Joe Satriani".... I know,
flame central invitation. I am not trying to start another war here. Just
trying to give you a point of reference. If you're looking for head music,
this AIN'T it. If your looking for a three piece instrumental band,
rockin' and groovin' with good tunes and a good bit of emotion ( and a nice
little sweep arpeggio every once in awhile *grin* )... this CD is it. I
give it 4 shreddin' guitars out of 5.

3.) Kip Winger - ThisConversationSeemsLikeADream Blockbuster Music $16.99
Ok, there has been discussion on this list already about Kip. I gotta say
that I was a fan since I heard "Madeleine" the first time inlike '89 or so.
I can't say that I can liken this CD to any of the Winger CDs. It's
somewhat more tame than the Winger releases... but this honestly doesn't
hurt the CD, IMHO. This thing has some great orchestration and I just
really dig Kip's voice! Not real progressive, but it has a decent amount
of keys and orchestra thrown in. And now for a little tie in with the
second CD I reviewed. Andy Timmons does ALL the solo guitar work on this
CD. A much more laid back Timmons, if you get this CD first, you'll
probably get the wrong impression. He mostly just throws a solo that
pretty much fits the mood of the song. No shred-o-mania on this CD. Some
pretty good melodies and thought provoking lyrics. Oh yeah, actually I can
liken the CD to part of the "Pull" CD. If you sorta dug the acoustic
tune... damn what was the name of the tune after "Junkyard Dog"... "Tears
Fallin' on Stone"? yeah, I think that's it. Anyway, this CD is in a
similar vein... Lots of acoustic guitar (played by Kip mostly) and
drumming by Rod Morgenstein. All in all, a good CD. I give it 3 1/2
shredding guitars out of 5. Only because there's not really any
"shredding" per say. A good CD though. I'm sure it will get as much play
in my CD player as my new "Lemur Voice" and "Artension" CDs do. This would
go well in a 3 disc player with Seal's last CD and maybe Jim Matheos'
"First Impressions". Mellow, somber, but yet hopeful.

Well, sorry for the long-windedness. Hope this helps you make a decision
about some of these CDs if you were thinking about picking them up. Feel
free to e-mail me with any questions and I'll try to help you out.

A special THANK YOU to all the jammers that have posted reviews over the
years... They've made a huge impact on my music purchases and I thank you
wholeheartedly. In this current time of MTV driven crap on the music
scene, it's nice to have a source to get the "goods" on new and old groups
putting out new material with little or no advertising. Thanks again!

    Shred 'til yer dead!
    Jeff

KICK ASS!!!!!! So DS is doing a clinic in St. Louis. I'm on my way
as soon as I get done with this post to sign up (there's a gas
station nearby that has cheap gas, too, so there's more than one
reason :). Man, this is totally killer. I just have to remember to
ask off work that evening. Man, that rocks. WOO HOO!!!!!

I may regret responding to this but...

    >Do us all a favor, and watch "Cliff 'em All." People like you were
    >calling Metallica a "sell-out" band way back in the days of Ride and MOP.

Umm...let's remember that was at least 11 years ago!!! Think the band has the
same attitude as in '86? Yeah right! Money changes people and now that they
are successful, they do not have the same attitude they did when they were a
bunch of garage kids from CA. On top of that, I've heard Jason has a side
project (which incidentally Hetfield and Ulrich aren't fond of) that is much
better than that load... that they put out. Why is it that Jason is not
allowed to write more material? Could it be that it isn't as "poppy" as what
    they're putting out now?

I'm getting off the soap box and putting on my asbestos undies...
