Congrats to Mike & Marlene on the birth of Melody Portnoy. Awesome name, if you ask me. A day to celebrate!! Alas, two days too late for me to share a birthday with the lil' drummerette. :)

I'm insanely jealous, naturally, because Melissa and I are very high on the idea of starting a family...

Also, thanks to everyone on the Jam who wished me a good 23rd birthday on 4/30. The 23rd birthday is kinda meaningless, so it was cool that it was remembered. :)

YTSEJAM, an awakening in images and words

Take the time to pull me under another day. I'm sick of sitting, in a wait for sleep under a glass moon in this forsaken, status seeker metropolis, but hey, we're all learning to live here, right? I'm surrounded by this place; the city is so loud, I mean, like at 6:00 you can hear so many voices whispering its violence, it could really make you wish for God to send you to the afterlife. Is God, the silent man, calling me now? Is His Majesty calling me to live forever? Is it my time, or is the devil trying to make a fortune in lies, leading me down the wrong path? His killing hand of death is deceptive, I know all too well. As I look above, though, I see that vital star, and I know that it's only a matter of time before I become an eternal member of the ones who help to set the sun. I truly wish I could be lifting shadows off a dream, my dream, but... ...The erotoMania of last night has left me so scarred...ever since my innocence faded, my spiritual virginity lost, I've been caught in a web of sorts. I look in the mirror, and all I can see is a lie. I feel like I'm going to explode this EVEning! Light fuse and get away. On the other hand, maybe I should just wait. I feel a change of seasons coming upon us...just let me breathe.

Hi all, just wanted to let folks know that I'm putting together a new Queensryche web site http://www.dhpc.com/ryche/ and that I'm intersted in any resources/info/input for it. If anyone has Ryche material of any kind that I can use on the site, please let me know.

Also doing some updating to my DT/Doom2 page http://users1.ee.net/buster but nothing major done so far, mostly just added some links. This week I hope to have some guitar tab, midi files, and sound samples from DT CD's on there. I have a bunch of server space now, so I'll be making a bunch of DT .wav files available for download there very soon.

    Thanks, buster

If you're interested in how many posts you (or someone else) sent to the Ytsejam last month, check the new "Most Frequent Posters" list at : http://www.prognosis.com/itchy/

This month's list contains 370 posters and 119 URLs. If you don't know where I got those URLs, read the instructions page...

If you want to know who else is posting from your domain/country, check the "Posters Per Domain" list. Last month *29* domains were represented on this list :-)

MOST FREQUENT POSTER LIST ---> http://www.prognosis.com/itchy/

Also, add yourself to the Ytsejam Birthday Calendar if you're not on it yet. On May 5, James LaBrie will turn 34 :-) Does anyone have Derek Sherinian's birthday, btw ? He's the only member of DT who isn't on my calendar yet.

And while you are there, check out the results for poll I did for the Marillion mailinglist last month. 143 Freaks voted for their top 5 of best albums *ever*. Together, they voted for *239* bands and 374 different albums ! I also asked them to give a suggestion for first Marillion album purchase, for people who are interested in checking out Marillion. This resulted in four pages :

    1. A page with statistics about the poll

    2. Top-12 of first Marillion purchase suggestions Check out which album the average Freak would suggest *first* !

    3. The "Perfect Albums" list ("Images And Words" made it all the way to nr. 4 with 14 votes !)

    4. The "Perfect Bands" list

This one contains a list of bands, sorted on the amount of votes they got. Underneath each name are the albums that got voted for in the poll. If you *always* wanted to check out a certain band, you can use this list to see which album to buy first :-) Btw, Dream Theater ended up as "Perfect Band" nr. 5 ! (24 votes)

I have a similar story about my CD player. On the Queensryche boot I just got called "Operation: Promised Land", it won't play I Am I unless I go to track 2, search all the way back to the beginning of track 1 (IaI). Also, on my Savatage CD "From The Gutter To The Stage", the CD(s) will play in my big CD player but not in my portable one. I still can't figure out why.

As for opening bands for Queensryche, why not have Type O Negative open. Not that their my all time favorite band (I have a couple CDs by them and they're okay) but hell, I've already seen them twice (once with Motley Crue and once with QR).

Petrucci is 'On Tour' making Clinics of Ibanez, and on 30 of April he came to Lisbon. It was Fantastic, beautiful, amazing, ... He played two news songs from DT, by the way the new album willn't be double, they are selecting from a list of 16. The name of the songs are: Burning My Soul and Lines In The Sand (a very long music, with slow parts, fast parts, very fast parts), with no vocals, only the instrumental part. He was contacted by Sega to make two songs to a pinball game (macromaniac, or something like that) and the result it was more than excelent. I can't explain.

    Hi folks,

A few of you may be acquainted with fellow veteran Jammer Aaron "DJ Kuul A." Silverman. Well, he and I are originally from the same part of Western Massachusetts, but we first met while attending University of Miami. While at UM, I count myself fortunate that Mr. Silverman let me borrow his T-Ride CD, having never heard of them before, and quickly developing a love for that album. Aaron and I also enjoyed a Joe Satriani show together, with T-Ride as the opener, no less.

Then about two years passed with no contact after he left UM, and I went on to grad school at University of Florida. Contact with Mr. Silverman was re-established when I first subscribed to this list last September. Once again, he managed to recommend some excellent music to me, this time being Mr. So & So. Of course, he warned me that I'd never find their debut release, since it's well out-of-print, and seemingly very few copies even exist. Personally, I thought I'd be able to find it, but after months of searching far and wide for it, there has been no success.

So today is my graduation day, and after nine years and four degrees, I'm glad to finally see the end. But this finalization was made especially enjoyable by the arrival in the mail of a most excellent gift from Mr. Silverman.... this being a CDR clone of Mr. So & So's debut release "Paraphernalia". Now *this* is quite a surprise, and a most welcomed one at that. I cannot even begin to express how thankful and appreciative I am of Aaron's effort to press up this disc and deliver it. So I decided to bring my thoughts here to this public forum and announce,

THANK YOU SO MUCH AARON SILVERMAN!!!!

    Have a good day everyone.

    -Rick Audet

(Aaron, your timing could not have been better!)

    Hi all,

I saw Iced Earth, Nevermore, Enola Gay, and Lion's Share 2 nights ago. Great show! I had an all access pass thanks to Jon Schaffer from Iced Earth. I hung out with the band before the show and wound up only seeing Nevermore and Iced Earth and not the two crappy opening bands *grin*. All the guys from IE are great, cool guys to talk to.

Here is the set list as it is written:

Travel in Stygian\Colors Cast in Stone Dark Saga\Angels\Stormrider I Died For You Diary The Hunter Pure Evil Brainwashed Vengeance is Mine\Violate

    ENCORE

Burnt Offerings Slave to the Dark\Purgatory\Iced Earth

And not on the set list I have they played The Last Laugh.

Don't miss this show if it comes near to your town. They will be in Germany for like 2 more weeks. Then some shows in America later. Jon mentioned maybe two in Chicago and one in Milwaukee. Don't miss it!

yo, what up, freaks.been a while since i posted anything worthwhile, so i thought i'd drop in for a bit.

so i finally found apsog. i know i'm probably really late in the remarks about it.

for someone who did not like the earlier fw stuff, this is an album that i'm starting to really dig. it's not fw as i know it, i suppose. i definitely think it has a nice and heavy edge to it, which is always nice. it does an impressive job of mixing the heavy (a little dt, anyone?) with a classic prog groove like yes (part 8, i beleive- the piano guitar thing, for instance).

as much as i think kevin does a splendid job (i LOVE some of the sounds he's got. part 2's chorus makes me think "god, it's the sound from "lie"- i MISSED that), i seriously doubt his presence makes that much of a difference. it could have been rick wakeman. it could have been derek. it could have even been MY MOTHER. it's all around a good effort.

has there been a discussion at all on the meaning of the lyrics at all? i've been really behind so i probably missed anything discussion on it. anyone who can fill me in would get loved by me.

ok, on to other things. this goes out mainly to syrinx, and a couple of others (eric rodger and dale newberry as well). i know i discussed trades of boots and stuff with y'all, but i'm going to ask if we can put those things on hold. you will see why shortly.

now, before i go, i need a favor from people in the following states: mn, sd, mt, id, wa, or, ca, nv. i'm planning on going cross-country around the end of this month, and i was wondering if the people in any of those states could (private email) let me know about any really bizarre places to check out or go to, or stuff like good cheap hotels or something.

ok, peace out, goon-thugs. and keep on sniffin'

The exact same thing happened to me. I saw Cheap Trick and STP play at Freedom Hall in Johnson City, TN, and they both rocked, hard. There was a suprisingly savage mosh pit, too. Even during the slower, acoustic songs. Rick is a GREAT performer and I was lucky enough to snag one of the hundred or so picks that he threw out during the set. Hi there!

First off, something really important: Congratulations to Marlene and Mike Portnoy on the birth of their daughter! I guess Mike will be very happy right now, so I just hope that he's still able to play the more aggressive stuff when DT finally enters the studio (which should happen on the 12th of this month)... ;-)

Which brings me to the John Petrucci clinic that I went to yesterday, because that's where I got these information. Apart from being extremely nice and funny and answering all the questions, John played the following songs (without vocals, because he "didn't get the Canadian rights"): -Purple Rain (which was fantastic!) -Burning my Soul (already knew it, still like it very much) -Speak to me (very melodic and just... nice!) -Lines in the Sand (everybody loves it, so do I) -Hollow Years (reminded me a little bit of To Live Forever) -the two Necronomicon songs (which totally rocked!)

While he was signing my X-mas cd afterwards, I asked John about Metropolis 2 and he said that it was completed, that it was 23 minutes long and that it would (obviously) not be on the forthcoming album because of its lenghth.

Well, that's it, the man is just as cool as everybody has already said and it was definitely a great experience, even though I don't play any instrument myself. Did I mention that I can't wait for the new album?

    Take Care! Andreas Berger
