    I don't...

Kevin Moore stopped being part of DT the day he left the band.

    Well, that's what *I* think...

    ---

    In other news...

I got my very first bootleg! It's the first I've ever been able to find of a band that I actually wanted to buy a bootleg of - it's "One", from Rush's Roll the Bones tour... seeing as I've never heard a bootleg before, I'm not sure whether the sound is good compared to others, but I can hear everything (just can't make out what some of the punters are talking about in some places... I'm sure it's interesting). Not bad though, and it was only $26.95 Australian...

I went to the HMV in Brisbane on Friday and saw I Mother Earth's video of Another Sunday on the big tv screens! Coolie! And I found the single at another store...

Anyone know if anyone in Australia has actually heard of them? Because I honestly think that there is no reason why they shouldn't be successful here...

    ---

    Well, that is all. Bye!

you should check out Dimmu Borgir. they are far superior to either of these bands. you also need to check out Cradle Of Filth.

as for Dark Tranquility... they're good, but, quite frankly, they're kind of a rip-off of My Dying Bride, who are far superior in all respects.

    regards, matt.

    Absolutely.

On another note, I had an idea for the list while I was playing in a pool tournament last week. One of the tournament rules was if there was a questionable "hit" on a ball, and there was no third party called over to watch the shot, it automatically favored the shooter (even if it was blatantly bad). It prevents a lot of arguements.

My suggestion is that we adopt a similar policy on the list. If there's any question of whether a topic is valid or not, then it's valid and eveyone let it go. Who knows - it might actually prevent a flamewar or three, at which point we'd probably only get one 'jam every other day or so. :)

Oh, and BTW - I came in 4th place in the tournament and took home $75. Not bad for 13 1/2 hours work... (NOT!)

    Hey there -

Many thanks to the Jammer-dude who commented on the band IN FLAMES in Jam #2559. I find this quite ironic, since the first time I ever heard of the band was a mere 4 hours or so before I read the post. There's a big writeup in my latest Metal Maniacs magazine totally hyping their "The Jester Race" album. I got kinda psyched reading it... the guy said it was THE BEST metal album since "Elegy" by Amorphis (STILL one of the best albums I've ever heard!) and "Slaughter Of the Soul" by At the Gates (whom I've never heard). The author says In Flames is a cross between 80's style NWOBHM, Northern Swedish folk music, and death metal. I'm kinda intrigued... are there any other Jammer-type opinions of either In Flames "The Jester Race" and/or At the Gates "Slaughter Of the Soul"? I've never been much of a black metal fan, either... will I still like In Flames or At the Gates if I LOVE newer-style (from "Thousand Lakes" to present) Amorphis? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Yours lovingly, Matt T.

BTW - just picked up Apocalyptica (Four Cellos playing Metallica) - that's some wild shit, but I really dig it! Laterz...

Come on, Pat, you've been on this list *at least* as long as I have, probably longer. Don't tell me you aren't used to my sarcasm yet. :)

I was simply commenting on the fact that people seem to coming out of the woodwork all of the sudden and ripping James a new oriface. I think that James is a great singer, I've seen him live only once, but I have at least a dozen shows and he's performed well in almost all of them (exceptions: Japanese PPV show and a German show I have). =20

Yeah, I do have recently began a foray into the dark world of black metal.

I originally heard bands like Emperor and Mayhem, the so-called "black metal" gods and was NOT impressed at all. Sounded like a wall of shrieking...

Then I discovered Samael....WHOA!!! Complex music, dark vocals, satanic lyrics.....I have heard this to be classified as Black Metal and the vocals aren't the regular shrieks I'd heard before but closer to death metal...Very EXCELLENT BAND!!! I have only heard their latest two CDs.

Next up I heard Cradle Of Filth...this was indeed quite good stuff with the shrieking vocals but still the music was better than decent and it did have a certain evil atomsphere that is cool to me. Lyrically, it's not too shabby either although I could do without all the vampire crap.

VERY recently I heard AT THE GATES and it was a lot like Carcass..pretty cool stuff.

    ------------------------------

Haven't heard Dissection or Dark Tranquility yet....

The packaging of Cradle of Filth in particular was very nicely done with lots o..hehehe..neat pictures and lyrics and quotes and stuff...

OK that's it for now Later Phillip Cool CD of the Day: At The Gates "Slaughter of the Soul"

Paradise Lost are an awesome band. Draconian Times is in the gothic style but not like Type O Negative..there is a lot more metal to it. I suppose Draconian Times, to me, is a cross between Type O Negative, Metallica and Dream Theater. I highly recommend it.

You Know You've Been Hanging Around Synths and Samplers Too Long When:

-You not only tap in time to the indicators on your car, but know how many bpm they flash at.

-You go to hear an orchestra with your girlfriend, and while she listens to the beautiful music, you calculate the polyphony required to reproduce it.

    - You are sure you can hear the looppoints at a choir recital.

    - In addition to your in and out trays at work, you also have one marked 'thru'.

    - Last Christmas you synced your Christmas tree lights to your TB-303.

    - The accelerator on your car has aftertouch.

Heh, apparently somebody didn't watch Petrucci's video...massagin' the fingers always helps. You can do it fast or slow, just use what ever speed to warm up your appendages, in a soothing motion. "Sometimes I do it in the middle of a performance."

I haven't tried it yet (I live in a desert for cryin' out loud) but have ya cut off the fingertips of some cheap gloves, ala King Nothing vid?

Juss some suggestions OR do a Milli Vanilli and just pretend you're hitting the strings....

I think I know what you mean here, but I'm not quite sure. The first time I listen to a CD where the music is either complex (prog) or not based on ostinatos (jazz, classical), I almost always "forget" how the song went. I remember basics, but the details kinda slip outta my head until I've heard the song two or three times. The music becomes memorable only after repeated hearings. Even if the song is amazing, it's not memorable until later.

OR are you saying that most progressive tpye music is, in fact, forgettable in the traditional sense...i.e. the music is so poorly put together that it may as well be forgotten since it is now worthy of the repeated listenings to make it memorable?

OR am I just playing bullshattical semantic games here? If so, fuck with me.
