Now I have all the information you want:
The new VR-singer is called MORGAN THORN and is an 28 years ols
"unknown" from Wisconsin. His influences are Bruce Dickinson, James
Neal and Carl Albert (thanks!).
Concerning the new member, Geoff Thorpe says:
"The only way we could add someone to the band after Carl is, if we
found someone truly great!! We did ... he is unbelievable!! With
Morgan in the band our limitations are gone. We can be as melodic as
we want ... and as heavy!!"
Sounds good to me, I hope "Something Burning" was the only "fault" in
the great career of the band.
By the way: The new, ninth, album is called
"WEIGHT OF THE WORLD"

I've been listening to the new Magellan for about a week now,
well, that and the new Fates. Anyone have any mp3 samples around cause a
friend hooked up elsewhere wants a shot at some of the songs before he
buys. Good album. I really like the last song on it, some really funky
stuff with piccolo, or flute, or something.

places. I have one foot in each camp, but I've seen people who like DT
for the light stuff, and people who really like it for the stuff on Awake.

Ummm... That would be NO. Go back and read your registration letter. If
you lost it, I'll forward mine to you. It describes the intent of and
discussion topics on this mailing list. The next person who tells me
what the Jam should be is going to get daily registration letter mail
bombs from me until they say "Uncle!" And as I do recall, several people
commented on their interest in the DVD stuff, myself included. If you
don't like this list, then try the Voices list. You'll only get digests
from that when an album actually comes out, and only then if people
remember that Voices exists...

category as well: people who were in one of those two previous

Is this because you really hate mainstream music or just because it has
the label of "mainstream music" that you hate it? Because there is at
least SOME mainstream music (for me) that is very good. For example, the
people that only listen to progressive rock are just as close minded as
the people who only watch MTV.

While some people would like to hear only DT content, and would
prefer a silent lull when there is no DT info to be had, I think most do
not. There are two things to take into account here:
1). there are newer people (note: not newbies. I don't believe in that
term) here, who only want to hear about DT. But the problem is, they'd
actually want to discuss things that have been beaten to death time and
again here. So the veterans are tired of it. These people get somewhat
upset that the list doesn't conform to their expectations.
2). slowing the throughput on a list can actually be extremely bad. I run
a progressive mailing list (http://www.prognosis.com/madsman/) that has
been extremely slow. It's partially my fault, due to a misconfiguration
early on, but still, it sucks mightily when someone posts something in
February, and it isn't seen until May. It's particularly bad when it's
someone announcing his or her band's new album release, or a concert he or
she's playing the following week. You don't want that to happen here.

I just drive out to Impulse (I believe DreamDisc is within driving
distance too) and buy the stuff from their storefront. :) Can you review
the Conception and Elegy albums? I have Conception's "In Your Multitude"
and Elegy's "Lost". Conception seems to be a better band (really
listenable metal. Great stuff) while Elegy has better musicianship, but
awful songwriting. I can't listen to Lost, even though these guys can rip
it up. It reminds me of Mark Slaughter singing Anthem...

music fans here. There are metalheads, and there are cock rockers and
there are people that listen because they heard TTT in that Toyota
commercial 4 years ago...

I don't want it to sound like "We're beyond hope" or something
like that though. We just haven't found an all around solution to the
bickering that comes up now and again. I think it would really come down
to having the list owner (Scabs? Is that his name :) be more involved.
Only he can do something about the inappropriate posts (I'm not talking
about moderation. I'm talking about some things that should be set in
stone... rules that would be enforced). This isn't a reality right now
though... so we have to come up with a new solution.

Wouldn't it be great if everyone was that perfect, without soul, to expect nothing from anyone? NOT! I'd kill myself if my expectations ever sank that low. Fortunately, when my expectations aren't met, I don't go whining about it. So what if someone else is closed-minded! Does that make someone else's mental spewage any more righteous? The time people spend tearing each other new assholes is time better spent listening to Scarred :)

For what it's worth, we deployed a mission critical system for the Air Force back in mid '95. An IBM RS/6000 running AIX. Not one hardware failure (shhh!) and it runs 24-7. I take it back: one of the Microcom Modems blew up :) I know there is at least one person on Ytsejam from IBM (Greg Lee?). Great job, guys!! Solid platform, reliable OS, a no-brainer to administer and maintain. It is true that you sometimes do get what you pay for...
