YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You're totally right! At least I think so. I really
don't like rap. In addition to what Adam said, I hate it when people refer
to what rappers do as singing. Are they dumb or something? I don't hear
any musical notes. I also hate that rappers become famous for doing
something that almost anyone else can do (unless you stutter or something,
although that could become a new style of rap). I also hate it when
somebody who says that he/she listens to rap rips on metal. I mean, people
have different tastes, but don't rip on real music when the music you
listen to is close to not even being music. And I really don't understand
how people keep buying the same shit over and over, but with different
names. My brother is one of these people. I really can't hear any
difference between any of the CDs he has (which are a lot), but he just
tells me that I CAN'T HEAR THE DIFFERENCE. It really bewilders me how he
says they are all different when there's no significant difference between
most of them. Also, what the fuck are rappers thinking when they say
stupid shit before every single song? Do they think people want to hear
them say crap like "this is the real shit, you know what I'm sayin? Keepin
it real. Blah blah blah" before every single song, or anytime during the
CD? If anybody knows the answers to any of these questions, please let me
know. Anyways, sorry for this to anybody who doesn't care or is pissed off
because of my comments. I really have very strong feelings against rap
because my brother listens to it 24-7 and it doesn't make sense to me.

Alright, on to other stuff. I got the new Enchant "Wounded". I'm
listening to it for the second time, and I think it's really good. The
most significant differences I can detect between this one and the first
one are: 1) the guitarist seems to be playing better solos (I'm not saying
the solos in the BOTW are bad at all, but the ones in Wounded just sound
cooler), 2) Paul Craddick plays with only 2 arms. I mean, the stuff he
plays on BOTW is just CRAZY, so it seems he's playing with like at least 4
arms. On Wounded he doesn't do those amazing cymbal runs and very
complicated stuff that I loved from before. He still plays great, but he's
more held back, and 3) the bass this time sounds funkier, and he also seems
    to be playing better.

Well, I hope I didn't bore any of you. Thanks for reading. Bye!

    Alexis

Pride & Glory (Zakk Wylde's band) was louder than the headliner of the
show - Aerosmith. On the G3 tour Steve Vai's guitar was louder than his
entire band, and supposedly he got up to 136db at some of his shows, which
appalled Satriani. But then again, since I missed Pavarotti at the Key
Arena last weekend I'll never be sure who's the loudest...

First we must list the 5 most powerful vocalists in metal, then decide
what our opinions are. As far as favorite vocalists, my top 5 would have
    to be:

    1. Mike Tramp
    2. Bret Michaels

    >himself? Is it because you like to pick on one person repeatedly?

No. I'm angry that you would say that. I don't research old jams
in order to respond to something current. It became enough of a thread, and
I decided, "Okay... since it's being discussed now, maybe I won't piss
anyone off by posting my own take." I was making an attempt not to respond
to things, so people would stop coming down on me, and after seeing a bunch
of posts on this topic, I thought it was safe.
I'm really insulted by this. I do talk a lot on the jam, obviously,
but I don't see how merely disagreeing with someone makes me a bad person,
an egotist, or whatever else anyone wants to call me. Or saying something
directed at one person, that I think other people might enjoy/benefit
from... I'm not trying to be a thorn in anyone's side. But you know, fuck
it. This isn't a list I want to be on anymore. I'm catching a lot of the
flak for the downward spiral the jam has been on, and I don't think I'm
    responsible for it all.
I WILL post this publicly, because my perspective hasn't changed. I
STILL think this place should be an open discussion. If you want to
moderate this list (Not just you, Nicole) and keep things that aren't
specifically addressing all jammers, and don't specifically relate to DT off
the jam, go for it. I don't like that idea. It's not even part of the
welcome letter. I am befuddled to come up with a reason not to post
something that I think people might benefit from, just because it requires
me to comment on something someone else said. You can not have a thread
without at some point or another addressing another person directly, for the
    list to read.
I am beyond words in my own amazement to see you qualify your
letter by saying "This goes for all jammers, so I'm not being a hypocrite...
.. ...if you have something to say to one person do it in private e-mail"
and then use it as a tool to ask me a question directly like that, with the
intent of questioning my integrity. If you feel I'm incorrect or that I
misunderstand, I'll gladly discuss this with you on private e-mail, as you
    claim to want it.
I am calm, writing this here, so don't get me wrong. I don't hold
grudges, and it's entirely possible that I missed your point entirely
(though I am fairly certain I see part of your message clearly). I'm
getting off this list immediately. I will be back when the next DT album
comes out, in hopes that this will change something. I don't think my
departure will change the list at all, which will be my own personal "Fuck
You" to the few who have taken the time to write me, pointing blame for the
waste of time this list has become for them. I consider all of you my
friends, regardless, and any may feel free to write me personally, to keep

I used to love Tesla, ever since I got that Mechanical
Resonance tape in the mail as a Columbia House monthly
selection that I forgot to send back so long ago. I think
they lost a little each subsequent album, but they still
put out pretty good stuff. Maybe I lost interest because
I bit it *really hard* on my bike one summer night when
I encountered three deer in the road going ~60mph... I
was listening to the second album on my headphones at
the time. It was at this point that I stopped loving Tesla
and started _hating_ deer. I still ride (heh).
(DT should cover Modern Day Cowboy, btw)

    ****
Does _anyone_ know anything more about DT [possibly]
opening for Queensryche??? I just might take a day off
in the middle of the week and drive ~200mi. to Reno to
see them next month if this is so. Still don't know
what the deal is with them skipping Nor-Cal.

    ****
This list has been "trying to become a better place" for a
_long_ f*cking time. Nicole, I have seen what you are trying
to do being done 100^100 times. It just generates more traffic
(like this part of my post, but I am addressing others, too)
At the time we were created, this list was specific for DT
and related bands. When membership increased by the hundreds,
this characteristic never seemed to want to go away, despite
the increased traffic. And when people stay here a while, they
tend to become "ytsepersonalities", much to the chagrin of many,
but they add the needed flavor (even when the dreaded flame wars
(which I skip) happen). Hell, I remember salivating on getting
one *post* a day, much less one 'jam. Rarely has there been an
happy medium. Too bad people like Rip leave us, but oh well...
For those who stick around, we do kind of become like a family
(the Addams Family). Maybe it's time for the dude who wrote the
Ytse and Jam satire (not Bafu's, which were lighthearted) to do
another one. Anyone have a copy of that one? I found it a dead
on commentary of the state of the 'jam at that time.

Maybe there should be a section in the FAQ explaining all of this?
But then people would probably be scared to subscribe. Yes, and
after a while, long-timers would get tired of the bullsh*t and
unsubscribe, leaving not one damn person left.

    Hmm.

Why am I writing all of this? Because I feel like it, and
haven't posted in a long time, so there !^)>

    ****
And Doc, we appreciate you trying to keep The Secret, but I think
it's time to stop joking around and finally admit that Mike Bahr
is *really* Mike Portnoy. C'mon, there have been _too many_
coincidences to deny this any longer. I mean, it's like when the
characters on AMC (okay, so I know it's fiction) were too stupid
to figure out that Adam was impersonating his simple-minded twin
brother Stuart for a while. Duh!

Ytseobservation(tm): Dr. Mosh has posted more times in the last
three months than he has in the entire previous three years. I guess
he *really* loves that APSOG thingy, eh?

    >> I think there are two camps of DT fans here. The metalheads who also >> happen to like DT, ----snip --- and the people who like mostly lighter stuff

As for me, I like my "rock" music to be metal. Even though I don't like metal just for the sake of liking metal, it seems to be the only rock music that keeps me humming along with it. Other forms of rock just doesn't motivate me with any energy.

When I am in the mood for something lite, I go straight for classical or newage, usually the piano and/or indian flute stuff. It isn't meant to be heavy, and has it's purpose to entertain me in a way that Phil Collins and the like can't seem to succeed in doing. I don't hate Phil's music; in fact, I think he's rather good. But it doesn't do anything for me. Phil probably doesn't care, though.

If any doctors / musicians on the list can explain to me why I feel this way.... I'd love to know.

I don't know WHAT Rap has to do with anything on this list but here's my 2 cents. Whoever is trashing rap is missing the big picture here. That person talked about gang signs and all of that and East/West Coast....Well that's fantastic,BUT, I have a strong feeling that the "Gangsta Rap" is only a phase of the music. Look at the Eightys rock music...the most popular thing (for the most part), was glam...Now it's virtually extinct...it then went to Grunge...I hate labels, but I don't know how else to explain it. So, as Rap was more about doing women before the "Gangsta rap" thing, I have a feeling it will move to something else eventually. <Lunatic's Asylum BBS * asylumbbs.com * (907) 274-8645 or (907) 278-8646) <The Place To Go When Life Is Driving You Nuts>

What is YTSEJAM? Well, it is, first and foremost, a group of friends. What does Dream Theater have to do with it? They are the lowest common denominator. Everyone that complains about the lack of DTC, well, you have a point, but if you take the time to do more than read the table of contents for each digest, you WILL learn about DT, as well as the lives/ concerns/passions/wishes/etc. of other people that share some traits with you that are, in general, difficult to find in people nowadays.

Do want DTC? Do you want to make some new friends? Do you want these two wishes to coincide? If your answer to all three questions is "Yes," and you're reading this message, then I'm probably preaching to the converted. But just in case, read your 'jams! I mean read them, don't just skim them! Of course, there will be stuff that you don't care about. But the stuff you don't care about will have been posted by people you SHOULD care about, because we all possess the recessive dt gene :)

I have lived my entire life (almost 24 years) within the confines of the state of Alabama. Possibly the single most joyous occasion of my life (I have never married nor become a parent) was when I obtained access to the internet. Why? Well, it's hard as hell to be an intellectual down here. I'm not glorifying myself, nor am I putting down my fellow statesmen (like anyone other than CaptinB will ever read this :), but being an intelligent person down here is sufficient causality for becoming an intelligent, lonely person. Not that I'm lonely, but even though I live in a city of over 40,000 people, it can be difficult to find someone whose brain operates in the same twisted way that mine does.

God bless the internet. I met Paul "Pellaz" Cashman, Wes "Beavis" Foll, and Jennifer ???????? (8 question marks :) because of this list. I spent about 72 hours with these people, and over the course of those 72 hours I came to love their company to the point that I actually miss them now. Why? I don't know. But I DO know that, were it not for the YTSEJAM, I would never have met these wonderful people that I am proud to call my friends. How does DT fit into this equation? Well, those 72+ hours I mentioned were spent in my minivan traveling from Atlanta, GA, to Old Bridge, NJ, and back just to see DT play the final Fix for '96 show at Birch Hill.

I guess my message is "You get out of YTSEJAM what you put in to it." I've mentioned 3 names, but I could go on. There are the wonderful, helpful, patient :) people that I've traded with, there are the people that have discussed the latest musician-type gossip with me, there are the people I've met on IRC (who are wonderful, without exception), and there are the goofballs that like to spend their time joking around via email (like I do :). And almost every last one of you is like a brother or sister to me, because of all the good times I've had resulting from the YTSEJAM. (I say "almost evey one of you" because I haven't met everyone on the 'jam, not because I dislike anyone on here).

That's why NDTC is important to me. Because even though the stuff that is posted to this list may not be directly related to DT, it more often than not, directly or indirectly applies to me. It just takes a bit of patience and/or tolerance for my brothers and sisters.

****** This is not a flame, because, in my opinion, you simply spoke what was on your mind. ******

    > From: Chris Daley <cdaley@gmu.edu> ^^^^^ ^^^^^ ^^^^^^ ^^^ ^^^ You make valid points, Chris. Even though I don't necessarily agree with the points you make, you seem to be an intelligent person. I hope you decide to invest the time necessary to become a "true" member of the YTSEJAM.

All my friends, brothers, and sisters are welcome to contact me at:

    Hiya yammerz,

Well, VR had a really good singer (Word of Mouth is tops) with a sharp but melodic voice. On Something Burning, the singing is not even a quarter of a match for it, but mostly, they screwed up with the music, trying to do something more Panteresque. SB sucks from A to ZZZzzzzz. Hopefully, with this new singer, they'll get into some better songwriting.

FW (had to put one in, eh?): Who's touring with them in Europe?

And the girls kick ass too, because you know, I dig everybody. :)

I hadn't even read the original post 'dissing me until the same time as I read all of your defense replies, because both Jams were in my mailbox this evening. You all kick giant ass. I sure the hell hope I never make anyone here's shit list. :)

OK, I shipped, check this out, 50 discs today. PT+DW, an even mix of both. I can't say which specifically because my notes are not in front of me, but dammit, a bunch o you are gonna be way happy real soon now. I took the entire day off from Equinox to pack discs and drive to the Chandler, Gilbert, and Chandler Auxiliary post offices to mail them without going over the quantity limit. I hope you all dig. :) ALL current re-sends are therein, including those for Bill Huston and Jeff Esshaki (two mails I see in my inbox that I'm about to reply to, and I figured I'd pre-emptively answer them here... heh).

Aaaaaanyway, the final artwork for Virtual Songs should be posted shortly to my web site. The disc is just about done. Mainly I'm waiting for the artwork to come in from the print shop, and then shipping shall begin. The last-minute problem I'm still trying to solve is how to ship it jewel-box-wise... a local company claims to have single-height triple jewel cases, and I may have to do some business with 'em tomorrow.

Alert! Precious Things and Darkest of Winters are now completely sold out. It was bound to happen. I mean really this time... I am even out of liners and casings! Also, I found another box of extra shit while cleaning today, and it contained some (gasp) Inside The Storm discs. I'll probably sell them at the original regular price, unless demand is such that I need to auction them, and based on the results of Kevin Villines' auction, I just might have to. The box had about seven Critical Masses sans jewel case, and that will help some serious Rush collectors who haven't obtained it yet.

When Dream And Today Unite is shipping and available. Critical Mass is also, "for a limited time..." Virtual Songs is about to ship, and is available to pre-order. Experience to Extremes is available for pre-order. Another CD will be open as of June 1st for pre-ordering. I will give details when I upgrade to ten gigs on my copying server.

To the guy who slammed me... it's OK, I know you weren't familiar with me so I don't blame you for thinking poorly of me. As others explain, I manufacture the CDs myself, so it's not a matter of what I can get; but instead a matter of how fast I can crank these puppies out. And demand is at a fever pitch. Now I know why those "close to the band" wanted me to slow down and back off until after the new album comes out.

Ytsejam serves 1200??! Holy shit!! Where's the next Ytsecon? :) Does this mean I have to increase all my print runs now?

    Take care everyone!
