No, those type of messages are exactly what I would love to see (and I am
in ACK mode). What gets annoying in ACK mode (and most likely in digest
mode also) are messages like this:

    >>I just drank a Mountain Dew and I think my nuts are schrinking.

    >My condition forces me to BE a dumbass at least twice daily.

Now I have no idea who wrote this, and this wasn't singled out for any
particuar reason other than convenience, but I just can't fathom how
someone on this list would rather read this post, than someone asking the
difference between the Japanese LATM, and the German LATM. This is my
point. If this is not the feeling of the majority of the list, then we
should start thinking about creating another list - or maybe they should.
After all, I believe my post on LATM holds much more value to a DT fan than
this one above, even if you already know the answer. What value does your
    post hold?

welp, i've been listening to the new Megadeth, "Cryptic Writings", due out
June 17th.. with all the Megadeth talk that was here not too long ago, I
    figured someone would be interested..

    1. "Trust" - Different yet cool song. "Angry Again" tempo with "Hangar 18"
elements thrown in. Starts off with orchastra. Has a sampled speaking part
right before a cool acoustic instrumental part that totally reminded me of
Dream Theater tunes such as Space Dye Vest. Cool song.

    2. "Almost Honest" - Don't like this one too much. Could be okay, but the
weird effect on the guitar throughout the chorus makes it sound kinda
glammy. Cool solo though. Sort of like "Elysian Fields".

    3. "Use The Man" - Weird song. Took a few listens, but it is one of the
best on the record. Starts off with a sample of some 60's song. Goes into
Dave singing over acoustic guitar. Chorus is slow and heavy, reminiscent of
Alice in Chains. Gets faster for the solo, with a cool ending.

    4. "Mastermind" - Cool song that starts off with a bass riff a la "Peace
Sells". Again, mid-tempo sort of thing, cool chorus. The ending is great.

    5. "The Disintegrators" - One of the best on the disc. Megadeth hasn't
thrashed like this since Peace Sells, total kick ass thrash. 2 Cool solos.
    Catchy chorus.

    6. "I'll Get Even" - Worst song on the disc. 'Surf' chords with weird
effect reminiscent of "Until It Sleeps". Yuck.

    7. "Sin" - Heavy mid-tempo tune, with a cool chorus and solo. Pretty cool.

    8. "A Secret Place" - Another weird tune. Sorta slow, starts with clean
guitar. Not a bad song, not great either.

    9. "Have Cool, Will Travel" - Great song. Megadeth gone blues! Starts off
with cool guitar riff, with harmonica coming in after 2 measures. Cool
    solo, and great ending.

    10. "She Wolf" - Fast and heavy. Main riff reminiscent of "Disposable Heroes".
    Very catchy chorus, cool ending.

    11. "Vortex" - Awesome intro/solo riff. Cool chorus, incredible solo.
    Great song.

    12. "F.F.F." - Stands for Fight For Freedom. Either the best or second best
song on the disc. Total thrash again, Peace Sells era. Awesome solo. Lots
of double bass, including Slayer-esque speed double bass after the solo.
    Kick ass.

Overall, I really like 10 of the 12 songs. Dave's singing is awesome and
the band is way more intense than they have been in the past. Lots of
personal lyrics, not too much political stuff, except for F.F.F. Far
heavier and faster than "Youthanasia", and not nearly as repetitive. Much
    improved.

No offense, but some of the people on this list are in direct contact with
the band members, and they said Metropolis II isn't written yet. Yes,
we're'making the assumption that that means it won't be on the next album,
but that's a pretty safe assumtion, given that: 1) They already have WAY
too much material written for the next album, and 2) The band has said they
want the next album to "flow", having a lot of different kinds of song on
it. That would be tough to do if you're including a 25+ (or whatever)
    minute song on there.

yes, they could definitely release it as an EP later, but that wasn't one
    of the questions being asked.

And when it comes to the web page at http://www.rsabbs.com/dt/ - you can
pretty much take that info to the bank.

Okay, this is totally uncalled for. You obviously have no clue what you're
    talking about.

    1) Mike Bahr doesn't *get* bootlegs - he *makes* them. You're comment about
him "boasting about what he can get" therefore makes no sense.

    2) His production and distribution record is exemplary, taking into
consideration the high volume, the vagaries of the post office, and the
    fact that he's basically a one-man operation.

    3) Problems with distribution do happen, and I'm sure the complaints you
saw on the list were dealt with in a timely manner. Why don't you pipe down
until you *personally* have a problem with him, and let these other people
    handle their own situations.

This really pisses me off. Mike Bahr has been one of the most reliable
sources of live material I've found. Whenever I had a question or problem
(moneywise, for example) he's gone out of his way to help in whatever way
he can. He's been here way longer than the guy that posted this message,
which is obvious given the great reputation Mike commands on this list. I
challenge the guy who wrote this shit to make a CD of better quality, for
only $25, and have the speed of a large CD printing firm. Realize that
it's just him and his new wife doing this entire operation (1000s of CDs)
and I think they do a damn good job. If you don't agree, just don't buy
the CDs. Until you know exactly what you're talking about, keep your mouth
    shut.

Once again... I must remind you all, that Bahr is just an AI program that
takes orders for automatically pressed CDs, sometimes there's a glitch in
the program and your orders are sidetracked, but then our "garbage
collection" subroutines kick into action every 6 months or so, and picks
    up on your sidetracked orders...

But on a more unCYNICal side.... Mike is a great dude and offers great shit
for people who would not have access to this hard to get stuff, so please
check your facts before saying stuff about Mr. Bahr, he's also really loaded
down by a lot of orders, give him time. Heck, I've been known to send out
mailings well over a year later...

And back to our regular stations:

Metropolis Part II!!! I heard it on the radio the other day!!! It was awesome,
too bad they played only the 6 minute version, the original was something like
55 minutes... and for some reason, they called it ASSPOG??

Just wanted to inform everyone that MTV played a good video today and i'm still in shock. They played Queensryche's Silent Lucidity and I'm still happy. It came in at number 309 or something on their top 500. Geoff kind of looked like a pretty boy. Speaking of which, I think James LaBrie would make a pretty good woman. I think he needs a sex change and should do a remix of Just A Girl (the extended 15 minute mix) or You Oughtta Know. And following that, I think James and Charlie should get married. This is just my sick humor again- calm down everyone. Fuck- I am a fucking asshole.

Yah rap is full of wannabe gangsters and silly lil people in general. But, I must admit it's fun to listen to sometimes. And rap was never about the musical tecnicalities or whatever. Even though bass is a little overrated...I have very few rap albums. I can't get into the stuff much myself. Although I dig Sir Mix-A-Lot. :>

thats about as stereotypical as saying everyone with a guitar is a mindless grunge rocker from seattle. do DT sing about killing themselves and depression and the things nirvana sing about? nope. are they on the radio? nope. do they have insight? yep. there's tons of rap artists out there right now just like them on the rap scene. ones who rap intelligently and with a lot of talent. saying all rappers are like notorious BIG is like saying all guitarrists are kurt cobain.

i want to bring this around to another point- eternity-x's web page. i went there a while back taking ed's advice to get the absolutely free demo. after i read through their stereotye filled nazi survey filled with biased multiple choice answers you could give me a free copy of all their albums and i'd throw them in the sewer. wouldnt even bother to pawn them because i dont think someone else should come along and buy a CD by these imbacile immature musicians. i never even bothered to do the survey. one of the first questions was regarding the fact that rap should have a "c" in front of it and be called crap. c'mon, this is lame. even mike portnoy would detest that, its just being closed minded. then i couldnt even answer the question. it was asking if i liked rap music and for the "yes" it had a multiple choice answer that made me sound like a complete goob for clicking it. i'm obviously not checking that. here on the prog list we're on and understanding how underground this type of music is, its sad to see stereotypes of other type of music prevail. stereotypes happen when people close their minds and open their mouthes. sorry ed, just wasnt keen on this little number.

Well, the fact that DT info has been quite stagnant for the last six months contributes to this. As soon as the new album comes out, things are really gonna be exciting, people will discuss the context of the album, performance reviews will be issued like crazy, new parodies like Pull My Finger and Puh'Pounded will be written. Trust me, it gets better than this. :)

I can't help myself... : ) Song and Emotion covered by Dream Theater..... hmmmm *mulls it over a while.....* Yea... it could work. Yep...

I must admit i'd never think of DT covering Tesla... but I reckon it'd come off kinda neat. After all Song and Emotion is alot stronger base to work from than say elton john, deep purple, queen or journey can provide. (Don't get me wrong all u fans of these bands/songs...these are great songs.... BUT Song and Emotion is Sensational.!) It be interesting to see just how JLB would pull it off.... i feel his passion is of a different kind to Jeff Keiths.

Anyway... as for TESLA in general they are one of my (if not THE) favorite hard rockin' type bands... defininately underrated. I could go on and on singing thier praises.... but since this is a DT list suffice to say if your in the mood for some emotional, straight from the heart, to 'take you away to some special place' hard rock, go check out BUst A Nut ... their last (and IMO) best album. Or any of thier others.....

And my TESLA question .... - in reference to thier Live Acoustical album entitled Five Man Acoustical Jam.. - did this album 'kick off' the current craze on acoustic albums ala" MTV live and Unplugged..?" cuz... that ... waz a freakin awesome (but brave!) move by them to release that when they did.

Anyway .. Ive drivelled too long .. LonG live TESLA .. (in our memories, hearts, and CD players! ) and heres looking forward to the DT does Tesla cover album! Hehe!

    Hey all:

A friend of mine was at the Modern Drummer drum festival last weekend, and he just happened to run into Mike Portnoy. He asked MP what's going on with the album, and MP said they'll be going into the studio in a few days. Also, MP mentioned that Dream Theater may be opening for Queensryche in the near future.

    Jammers-

First I would like to apologize for starting all of this flame mess to begin with. However, I have two more things to say. And this post is intended for all Ytsejammers, so don't think I'm being hypocritical.

    1. If anyone has any nice/sarcastic/rude/bullshit comments that they would like to make to a single person, DO IT IN PRIVATE E-MAIL. This includes you, Chris. Yes, I had people sending me responses privately, and I appreciate you doing that. But my main point is that if it doesn't have anything to do with the entire Ytsejam subscriber population, DON'T POST IT! If you're wondering why so many people are bitching about NDTC posts, (or if you are the one bitching) maybe you should look at your own posts and quit making snide comments about EVERY SINGLE POST EVERYONE ELSE MAKES. This ESPECIALLY goes for you 3 or 4 who like to post <user@domain.com> said: <whatever>, <your snide remark>, <anotheruser@anotherdomain.edu> said: <something else>, <another snide remark>, et cetera, ad nauseum. Just don't do it. Make up something original for once instead of replying to what someone else had to say. Or is that too hard for you all to do?

    2. Chris Ptacek wrote (regarding the DT fan category debate): >Do you (or does anyone) really think it's that simple? I'm >curious. I mean I know it's helpful to be able to categorize, but I >think the interests on this list can't be pigeonholed into that >corner.

Well, of course not, Chris. Not all DT fans can be placed into two categories. That's not what I meant. I had hoped to make people realize that yes, people can talk about death metal and No Doubt just as easily because, and here's the zinger, DT fans cannot be lumped into ONE category (as some people may think). Why didn't you jump all over the other people who agreed with what Lars had to say? Or all over Lars himself? Is it because you like to pick on one person repeatedly?

    >I think this would all be solved if people just respected each other more

    Good point. Remember it, 'jammers.

    >But as I said before... this has been attempted, and it doesn't stick...

Oh, no. Please don't try to be helpful or positive. Just shoot down EVERY attempt to make the Ytsejam a better place for all involved. (This is dripping with sarcasm, btw.)

    >- Raving Bullshit Egotist I know. :)

Please send ANY comments WHATSOEVER to me personally, and DO NOT waste any more bandwidth on this stupid debate. Thank you.
