    Yes JeffE!
I am a Jammer that apreciates TESLA. There are two other Jammers i know of
that also love Tesla... (namely my brother and my cousin) but they won't
reply cause theyre'slackers' ie they very occasionaly read theyre YSTEJAMS
and never post..... but thats another story...
Guess I 'm a slacker since this is a reply to about 15 digests ago but hey
    . I can't help myself... : )
Song and Emotion covered by Dream Theater..... hmmmm
*mulls it over a while.....* Yea... it could work. Yep...

I must admit i'd never think of DT covering Tesla... but I reckon it'd come
off kinda neat. After all Song and Emotion is alot stronger base to work
from than say elton john, deep purple, queen or journey can provide. (Don't
get me wrong all u fans of these bands/songs...these are great songs.... BUT
Song and Emotion is Sensational.!) It be interesting to see just how JLB
would pull it off.... i feel his passion is of a different kind to Jeff Keiths.

Anyway... as for TESLA in general they are one of my (if not THE) favorite
hard rockin' type bands... defininately underrated. I could go on and on
    singing thier praises....
but since this is a DT list suffice to say if your in the mood for some
emotional, straight from the heart, to 'take you away to some special place'
hard rock, go check out BUst A Nut ... their last (and IMO) best album. Or
    any of thier others.....

And my TESLA question .... - in reference to thier Live Acoustical album
entitled Five Man Acoustical Jam.. - did this album 'kick off' the current
craze on acoustic albums ala" MTV live and Unplugged..?" cuz... that ... waz
a freakin awesome (but brave!) move by them to release that when they did.

Anyway .. Ive drivelled too long .. LonG live TESLA .. (in our memories,
hearts, and CD players! ) and heres looking forward to the DT does Tesla
    cover album! Hehe!

    Later Brent
    aka Zajk.

This goes out to all Phoenix area jammerz,
I unfortunately missed the Megadeth interview on 98 KUPD the other day,
and I was wondering if some of you could fill me in (and anyone else
interested) as to what they said. I know they talked about the show on
June 13th, but I'd like to know what other stuffs they talked about (new
album, tour, how many times they're hitting AZ, video plans, Metallica
    rips, tour-supporters, etc.)

            Thanks!

Peace and love, and good happiness stuff, ~Vince

I'M SEEING MEGADETH! I'M SEEING MEGADETH!!!

HA HA HA HA HAHAHAHAA! It finally pays to live on the WESTERN side of
this continent!!! Of course, we also get to see Metallica before you
easterners see 'em too. I wonder if they're gonna video tape the concert
and use it for one of thier videos....I'll have to wear something
    "outstanding."

Of course, it's also because I live on the west coast, that I'm one of
the few people who STILL haven't seen DT live and subscribes to this list....

    Ugh.

For any Arizona fans (or for any fan crazy enough to come down here
during our hottest season, weather-wise) who haven't found out by now,
tickets go on sale this Friday, May 23 for $14 a pop. The actual concert
is June 13. If anybody taped the Megadeth appearance on KUPD yesterday,
    um...could I get a listen? I can't WAIT...and it's in Mesa
    ampitheater...WOO HOO!!!

    Who's bringin' the recorder? >:D

And finally, heh, this goes out to everybody, including the less
fortunate who WON'T be seeing Megadeth in June >;D

Anybody have ideas on the top ten videos of eMpTyV's 500? My guess is
that they're all gonna be thrash videos by Metallica, Dream Theater,
Metallica, Megadeth, Metallica, and that really big metal group,
Metallica. Of course, that's MY humble opinion. :)

I finally cut the final master for Virtual Songs (and now the copying and

Now I don't know about all of you, but I really dig that. :) I
couldn't believe my eyes when _everything fit_ after I had recorded all
them songs for the master. ( I have placeholder Limelight and Stick It Out
on the drive and they will be replaced by better quality recordings of
them when Doc gets me that DAT from San Diego ). That's easily the longest
known version of the Johnson City show, and the entire Echo setlist fit
with zero song-shuffling!! The closest thing to shuffling that I had to
do, was making sure Time and Motion went on disc 1. Dig it!! :)

Anyway, I'm gonna go listen to the master discs again and scan for
errors and such... and when the shipping materials arrive, they shall
start moving out the door. I already have blank discs set to copy the
final masters. The parcels are already ready already. :)

Yeah, Brooke Shields, maybe...speaking of which, she should shave those! :) BTW..the reason Dominici left... He didn't share DT's future musical goals and was asked to leave.

No, I don't think so... APSOG was a gig; he's not gonna become a part Fatez now. If you direct yourself to http://www.chromakey.com you'll be able to hear the stuuf KevMo's working on and that he's soon to release a CD w/ 'just his keyboard'... and it's not progressive; it's just different. > And if the others in DT wasn't striving for a TOP-40 hit, or glory, he > would still be with them, but since they are moving in different directions > he left. >

KevMo was just not in the band thing anymore and wanted to do his own stuff. And I don't know about DT wanting top-40 hits, it seems quite a natural progression, the way in which they're going. Have you heard the on-stage jamming they did during the I&W tour? A lot of it had that bluesy-groovy-rock thang in which their new songs are heading (it seems to me)

    > My biggest concern about DT is that they want to become popular!

Becoming popular at this moment would be rather nice sinc a) they have a rather stable fan base, and b)an increase in popularity=increase in money=economic stability for the band members who, BTW are married and got kids to worry about. And as far as I can see they're not compromising they're music anywhere; and if they did, I'd understand because, as Ijust said, they have their wives and kids to worry about.

Hey 'jammers! I went to a hole in the wall drum shop today with my friend, who was looking for a piece of hardware that would hook his hi-hat to his kick drum. I got bored and started sifting through the used CDs. What did I find? A scratch-free copy of T-Ride's CD for $6! I've had a copy ever since "Backdoor Romeo" was transcribed in GFTPM a few summers ago, but since I have seen posts to the 'jam from people who are looking for this disc, I bought it. Does anyone still want it? $8 covers the cost of the disc and shipping.

Woo-haa, you got us all in check! In this cd case on my left (black, 24-disc capacity, CaseLogic) you will find albums by bands such as Machine Head, Pantera, Galactic Cowboys, Alice In Chains, Type O Negative, King's X, Testament, Queensryche, Tiamat, and Metallica. Dream Theater's in this case.

In this cd case on my right (also black, 24-disc capacity, CaseLogic) you will find albums by Seal, Yanni, Rachel Z, Spyro Gyra, Jan Hammer, Enya, and Sarah McLachlan. There's no Dream Theater in this case, but "Eve" would definitely fit in here. But Lars, baybay, my point is that many of us have a finger in both pies, not just ONLY rhubarb or ONLY gooseberry.

Yeah, but it's fun to say aloud in a cool voice like Wesley Snipes whenever you see something hued black.

Now what's this about Metropolis II "most likely not" being on the next album? Has the band recorded the album already? AND I MISSED IT?!

I'm not sure if the FAQ is currently being updated, but I found this poem from which some of the lyrics to ACOS are taken and wanted to post it. It pretty much sums up much of the song.

Gather ye rosebuds while ye may, Old Time is still a-flying; And this same flower that smiles today Tomorrow will be dying.

The glorious lamp of heaven, the Sun, The higher he's a-getting, The sooner will his race be run, And nearer he's to setting.

That age which is the first, When youth and blood are warmer; But being spent, the worse, and worst Times still succeed the former.

Then be not coy, but use your time; And while ye may, go marry; For having lost but once your prime, You may forever tarry.

    Hi all

In this issue: Spock's Beard, The Gathering, Karma To Burn, Machine Head, Tool, Skyclad etc. etc.

Two new CDs fell into my stereo yesterday, and although they have already been talked about on the Jam, I thought some of you might be interested in my highly biased opinions (some people have actually written to me saying that they look forward to my reviews - thanks mum).

Spock's Beard - Beware Of Darkness

If any other band deserves to tour with Dream Theater, then it must be these guys. No Rush, no Fates Warning, no Enchant, not even Queensryche - just Dream Theater, Spock's Beard and at least 5 hours. OK, to the album. The title track and opener is a cover version of a George Harrison song and is by far the weakest point of the album, but this is soon compensated by the 3rd track, 'The Doorway': what a mother-fucker absolute stonking boner-inducing piece of music! (I know, you've never known me that enthusiastic about anything before - I'll take a couple of my tablets and try and calm down) Some of you may know that I really like what I call 'classic' Yes (from 'The Yes Album' to 'Close To The Edge'), well this track is like somebody put Yes in a time machine and took them from the early 70s and dropped them into the late 90s. It's all there: mellotrons, Hammond organs, the 100% precise, accurate and dry drums of Bill Bruford and bass guitar lines that are just perfect - Dave Meros plays so much like Chris Squire that it's unreal. The album is worth buying for this track alone. Oh, and the rest of the album is pretty good, too. 9.5/10 (the missing half a point is because of the first track). A question for those of you lucky enough to have seen these guys live: what does Dave Meros play live? I could swear it's a Rickenbacker put through a Sun cabinet.

    The Gathering - Nighttime Birds

If you liked 'Mandylion', this album is a must for your collection. The band has become a bit heavier, sometimes a touch more experimental (I can clearly hear The 3rd And The Mortal in there), and they have developed their own clear and very distinctive sound. Anneke's wonderful vocals are better than on the last album - it seems like she just needs to open her mouth and everything just flows out effortlessly. But be warned: this is *not* prog, simply a very solid album (no track over seven minutes, so it can't be any good). Like the last album, this was recorded at the Woodhouse Studios in Germany - how is it, that so much good music is made in these studios (Gathering, Tiamat, Moonspell, Sentenced)? 9.5/10 (the missing half a point is because there is no picture of Anneke on the otherwise well produced cover).

Talking of track length, why is it that so many people here are apparently obsessed with long tracks, a sort of long=prog=good syndrome? Musical size queens, I guess, but as most girls will tell you, size isn't everything...

So what's next? Last week I saw Karma To Burn and Machine Head live. If you are into dirty, raw music that really smokes, go and see Karma To Burn. Nothing complex, nothing technical (my god, how can they call themselves 'musicians'? Have they no integrity?), just grass roots rock'n'roll as it's meant to be. Machine Head did what Machine Head do best - they were loud, they were aggressive, they were hard, they were heavy and they were brilliant (if, of course, you like this hard core stuff).

Two interesting videos were shown on Metalla last night: Inequality Street by Skyclad (hi to all the other Skyclad fans out there), and Die Eier von Satan by Tool, which was really weird - the video consisted of the text being shown of the screen, with extracts of the Marilyn Manson video for Beautiful People running in a little box in the corner of the screen.

OK, a couple of little quotes to cheer up your weekend, then I'm out of here.

'Who took the cork off my breakfast?' W. C. Fields

'I drink to make other people interesting' Grouch Marx

'Sex is like bridge. If you haven't got a good partner, you need a good hand' Mae West

stay safe and happy listening Neil Gallop (nga@software-ag.de) Currently playing: The Gathering - Nighttime Birds
