    Hi gyus!

Someone asked in the past who's opening for Fates Warning in Europe.

It's SCANNER, a good german band with an excellent new album and the
    GODS themselves:

OMEN, reformed with a new singer and a new album (not my cup of
    tea...) are coming to Europe.

And after OMEN has left the stage, the best band in the world will
play the entirely "A Pleasant Shade Of Gray" album...

By the way: Here are MY Top Five Vocalists:

in response to Chung Ng (digest 2578), there's actually nearly 10 bootlegs
    coming from ITALY or JAPAN:
            1- The Judgement Day (2CD/ brazil 1996)
2- Live from the holy land (1CD/ PARIS LA LOCOMOTIVE may 1995)
3- Gates of the holy land (1CD/ PARIS la locomotive -end- may 1995
    + Live tracks from brazil)
4- Holy land in the east (2CD/ osaka jan.1997)
5- Eyes of the Christ (14 demos from holy land - march 1995 with 3
    unreleased tracks)
6- Reaching horizons (the official first demo with 3 bonus tracks
    including wuthering speed version)

I know there's other but i don't know their names so...

by the way i get 4 to 6 : the osaka concert have a good sound
eyes of the christ is really interesting 'cause a lot of things change 'til
    the official holy land release
concerning reaching horizons, it's sound like a real studio album (perfect !=
    !!)

    see you

    Hello,
Words of advice: do not drink until three in the morning. You will get
to work drunk the next day (as I am now). Silly, silly me...

    >including Satriani saying it was senseless guitar wanking.

Is the guy that said this the one that's dead? If not, let me know, I'll
have to kill him myself. The charge is BLASPHEMY!

    >Do Dream Theater have other songs similar to SPV??

    Space Pie Vest? :)

    >And hey, you sorry bastard, gimme back the Zippo! (You're a piece of
    >shit that should burn in hell).

Funny... My mom said the same thing about me last night... :)

    >The bad traders list is now dead! Just don't ask, but I will put up the
    >reliable CD dealers people sent me.

Why do I have the feeling Pat Daugherty will jump on this in a flash...
:) Give me directions to the website though, I'm looking for new
    stuph...

    >Rip and Chris both gone...hmm, in a word, SHIT!!

Is Chris really gone? I think it sux nadz when guys like this bail on
us. Now I have to rely on Korg's humor to get me through the day...

    >On a related note, I'd like to say something to the newly-departed Mr.
    >Ptacek, and anyone who is considering following him: Don't. (Or in

    I agree. Madsman, come back!!!!!

    >Megadeth(Peace Sells...But Who's Buying)-Hmm, I'll tell you up front I
    >don't like this CD.

DOH! I think you should give this quite a few listens. Especially Wake
Up Dead and Bad Omen. This is a good album, IMHO one of 'Deth's best. By
the way, never mistake what Dave is doing for singing... :)

    >I'M SEEING MEGADETH! I'M SEEING MEGADETH!!!

Rot in hell... :) I'll be in South Carolina by the time they get to this
coast. At least I won't have to see them at the Capitol again. It was
literally 120 degrees when I saw them there on the last tour. I dry
heaved three times over the security barrier from dehydration. The
bouncer-type people almost tossed me out. Wait, I think I told the Jam
    this story already... Sorry!

    >JAM ON FELLOW JAMMERS

    >QUOTES WORTH MENTIONING

Zappa can be so insightful when he's not stoned. (WAS, R.I.P.)

    >"Backdoor Romeo" was transcribed in GFTPM

Whatever happened to that idea that "guitarists would program an issue"?
This was one of the best issues that mag ever had, mainly because a
great guitarist (Satch) espoused his influences and current listens. IU
would have killed to see Eddie VH program an issue. Or Eric Johnson.

    >$8 covers the cost of the disc and shipping.

Actually, black is the combination of every other color, so something
couldn't be hued black. :) Post more often Bafu, I need your insight
into the world if Mads is departing.

No, but for preferring them over the songs on Awake. I was labelled as
someone who listens to "generic prog" because of my comments that I don't
like Voices and prefer those songs. If you think LTL, TTT, and Metropolis
are "generic prog", feel free to, but don't slap a "generic prog fan" label
on me because I happen to like them.

    > Isn't it a bit hypocritical to make fun of someone's grasp of the
    >English language, only to ignore grammar completely in your own post?

Quite. You know all about it, because you obviously fail to realize that I
wasn't making fun of his grasp of the English language. I was "making fun"
(if you want to call it that) of his inability to comprehend the message I
wrote. There is a large difference between making the odd mistake when
typing a message in due to the fact you type fast and make no attempt to
ensure a message is mistake-free, and completely misinterpreting a message.
It's not as if any grammatical or spelling errors in that message were so
erroneous as to alter the point being made.

    > Which is why I said, it would have been easy to knock his argument
    >down rationally, like an adult. Now you just look like a complete moron,

Which is why we settled this in e-mail like adults, with Raivo apologizing
for misinterpreting my message, and myself apologizing for being an ass.
Obviously you simply don't understand how to behave like an adult though.
What else would explain why you always jump right into the middle of every
flame war on the Jam? You always end up making yourself look foolish after
the argument has long been settled.

    > And I'm a pink elephant with a shotgun up my ass. I'm glad it's

I guess that explains all of the crap that's been shooting out of your
mouth. Perhaps you should have it extracted.

FYI, No Doubt have been around playing the same kind of music for something
like 8 years prior to hitting it big. They're not exactly a one year-old
radio wonder. BTW, I borrowed their CD from a friend, and I'm pleasantly

EXCELLENT! I may be the only one who got this. Toto is
another pretty decent group. Rosanna is definitely in my
top 5 songs of all time......Who says Ytsejammers are
            close-minded fuckfaces, yadda, yadda........

Man, Rip leaving and Ptacek leaving really blows -- I definitely
looked forward to their posts.......hopefully, they just
went into ACK, or they'll come back once the album is
released, that is, if we're still ALIVE when that happens....

The whole rap thread blows, too.....I listen to rap every
once in a while, depending on my mood.....I agree with whoever
wrote about LL and the "old school" guys always coming back
with great stuff.....although I would call myself a fan of
East Coast stuff (snoop, and that "First of da month" group
make me puke). But I got some Beasties (if you wanna call
that " "rap" per se), Tribe Called Quest, LL, Busta Rhymes
            (WHOOHAA!!!),, etc....if I'm in a funky mood, I'll throw
those on every once in a while and get funky.....

Everyone jumpin' on Adam was pretty harsh...you just gotta
take opinions with a grain of salt - 75% of the time, it's
probably sarcasm anyway (don't quote me on the stats :P ).

I have some CD reviews of some stuff (DefTones, BossTones,
the Urge, etc.), but none of them are really proggy, so I
            won't really talk about it.....

If anyone knows of some chunky prog, anything very similar
to Symphony X, Superior, etc.......please let me know
through private E-mail.........I gotta get some new stuff,
but I can't really go into a store and say "Got Any Good
            Prog in here???????"

            MOOOOOOOOOOO!!! (My tribute to Rip)

                                    Thanks in advance,

Who let this guy in here? It seems all he's here to do is hype prog bands. Which is fine, except I haven't seen this guy post a single thing on this list that's DT related. In fact, I haven't even seen him mention DT in one of his messages. I love hearing about new prog bands that I may like, but all this "go to this web site and vote for Fates" (why wouldn't I vote for *DT*?), blah blah blah stuff is getting annoying. He also posted his list of bands he'd like to see play in what he called the "ultimate concert" once and guess what, no DT. So why do we have non-DT fans spewing this crap on our list? I think everyone on this list has heard of Fates before, we don't need a message every jam plus a 1-page .sig to remind us that they exist.

Maybe I'm being unreasonable, but personally I take it as an insult to DT when someone comes onto a mailing list for *DT* fans, and lists their 10 favourite prog bands, none of which is DT.

BTW, I'm not the first person to bring this up.

DAMN! When I first saw DT, which was at the Limelight in NY(The Dance of Eternity show), I had never seen a picture of them. I was pretty close to the stage (the place wasn't THAT big anyway) -- and when I saw KJLB, I turned to my girlfriend (who was drooling) and said, "Man!, the singer looks a lot like Brooke Shields......." And she turned to me and said, "Oh really? What the HELL are you thinking about Brooke Shields for..." and she kicked me in the nuts.....she was a very jealous person.......

ok, so the kicking in the nuts part wasn't true, but the rest is I swear! :)

Ok, since I am a singer myself, I thought I'd put my top 5 here. It's based on heir work, not necessarily the way they're singing right now (though they're all still awesome, if you watch them live).

    1) Geoff Tate (and the guy even writes the best lyrics) 2) Ronnie James Dio (the biggest voice per feet ratio) 3) Andre Matos (oh he's just awesome, I saw him live twice, perfect) 4) Bruce Dickinson (need we say anything...) 5) Rob Halford (oh well...)

What?! No KJLB!!! Well, he's awesome and I love his stuff. Maybe had I never listened to any bootlegs he might be in there. I agree with all of you folks that have been complaining about him, but I wouldn't support a petition to get him out of the band. When he's good, he's still up there at the top. And I have a lot of stuff to learn from him. What?! No Ray Alder either??!! Same reason. I got this Tampa show recorded from the Inside Out tour where Alder fucks up some of my favorite songs, he just couldn't sing Pale Fire...:( But I think that's gotta be lack of practicing, I've heard he was great on the Parallels tour.

    >Well, of course not, Chris. Not all DT fans can be placed into two >categories. That's not what I meant. I had hoped to make people realize >that yes, people can talk about death metal and No Doubt just as easily >because, and here's the zinger, DT fans cannot be lumped into ONE >category (as some people may think). Why didn't you jump all over the >other people who agreed with what Lars had to say? Or all over Lars >himself? Is it because you like to pick on one person repeatedly?

Okay, let's get something straight here. When I said that, I didn't mean that ALL DT fans can be placed into two categories. But I was suggesting that a lot of the people who post on this list probably can be. I mean, obviously there are a lot of DT fans who are metal fans and got into DT because of the heavier side of their music, and very few people who listened mostly to country and got into DT.

But the dilemma here is that it seems those metal-first DT fans love to bash everything that's not metal, especially anything that gets lots of airplay. Never mind the fact that No Doubt are actually PROGRESSIVE (they use keyboards! :) ). They may not be "prog", but their music certainly is more complex I would say than anything that's been this popular in recent years, and it's certainly a lot DIFFERENT. But no. They're just not metal, so they automatically suck and have no talent in some people's minds. They're the first top 40 type band that I've actually liked in a LOOONG time.

In short, I like No Doubt, and I happen to like their music better than 97% of all metal I've heard, especially death/doom/whatever metal. I also happen to think they're better musicians and songwriters than 97% of all metal bands. Furthermore, I happen to think their music is far more original than 97% of all metal. And if you got a fucking problem wit' that, you can kiss my fucking ass.

And you know what will piss off you No Doubt bashers the most? I didn't even know who they were other than the fact they were one of these bands all the 14 year olds listen to (so I assumed they sucked) and hadn't heard any of their music until you did start bashing them. This crap all started just before they played here, and the day after their show, they also did a MuchMusic I&I show which I happened to watch just to see why some people on the Jam hated them so much. And then I found out one of my friends had their CD so I borrowed it along with one of his techno CD's (pretty good too) and let the guy borrow two of my Satch CD's in exchange.

So thanks for allowing me to discover a pretty cool band!

BTW, Chris, if the fact Gwen is female has nothing to do with the fact you don't like them, even subconsciously, I have a question for you. How many bands/groups are you a fan of who DO have a female singer (other than DT... :) I do think DT would sound better with a female singer though, if she was a good singer)? I hope you can answer that honestly. Now, don't get me wrong, I am not (and NEVER have) suggesting anyone here is/was bashing or doesn't like No Doubt because the singer is female. I'm not so stupid and paranoid as to think something like that. But it is curious that all the bands/groups people here hate most (Alanis, No Doubt, Spice Girls, etc.) all have female singers... <shrug> It was just an observation.
