I know the guy said to e-mail privately, but if anyone else want's to know...

    >does anyone know..which is the highest rock singer octave-wise? whos the
    >guy that can hit the highest octave in rock..?

Hands down, Jim Gillette wins. Ex-Nitro (Fastest guitars, highest vocals)
    vocalist,
now married to Lita Ford, has just over 6 octaves. I believe the highest
    note he has hit
is an F above high C <yeah, the note where glass shatters.> I have his
instructional tape, and while it's kinda goofy, I must say, it works. I
improved my vocals in only 3 months after
starting it. Jim can shatter heavy lead crystal goblets with his voice.
    (But, I'm sure he's not
    the only one)
(Singers: Hint - wanna try this? Take a crystal wine glass and run your
    finger around the rim.
Hear a note? (BTW, not all glasses do this) This is the exact note you must
hit in order to break the glass.) It's a blast the first time you do it and
    it's a most excellent party trick! :-)

A high G is what Labrie is singing (screaming?) on The Killing Hand on LaTM
right after the slow part and they're building into the fast verse. I'm too
lazy to get out the CD and check the actual time, but you guys know what
I'm talking about. Also Ray Alder sings pretty damn high on No Exit and
Perfect Symmetry. I've never checked but I'm sure he gets as high as a G at
many points because he sings high constantly on these records. Personally I
think the effect of blasting out a high note is lessened when you're doing
it all the time. You got to use dynamics in your singing. Also Andre Matos
of Angra does this, but he has the added bonus of sounding like a woman :)

    Wow ! Can't believe I'm writing here again..seems like a really
long time since I last scribbled here. Anyways..
    Here's the thingies;

    Categorising (?) DT-fans:
All I can say is if there were only two categories for DT-fans,
I wouldn't be neither of them. I like really heavy music sometimes
or soft !! Just depends on my mood at the moment !
    I mean, I like pop/dm/prog/kinda jazzy-bluesy/wm/doom/aor..
I can't even name all the styles ! It's just what ever happens to
    get my interest.

    Tesla:
I've been listening to their music now for over 11 years and still
listen. Song & emotion is a great song. So is Modern day cowboy
for a party song. Tesla stays in my memories. Happy memories.

    Waltari-show:
Damn, I should've listened to Mape..went to their gig a while
ago and it was all techno..so who ever wanted to know about them live,
there ya go ! The new album is full of techno. I was really disappointed.

    Loudest concert:
In my case it must be Manowar. And AC/DC was loud too. I still have
my hearing though, which is AMAZING !!

    Females in music:
Why couldn't you listen to a band w/ a female in it ?
I couldn't care less if there was a gorilla, if it was good !
I like lotsa bands with females in them, for instance:Lita Ford,
    Doro,Saraya,Cranberries, The Gathering,Heart,Skew Siskin,Romeo's
    Daughter,Lush,No Doubt,Fiona,Maggie Reilly,Chrissy Steele,Femme
Fatale,Phantom Blue,L7,Annica (Finn). And Jennifer Batten..
(NOO ! She never practised)..I'm just saying I don't look at the musicians
face or sex, I just listen to the music. That's what counts !

    Harem Scarem:
I have their Mood swings and I like it too. Anyone interested
in a trade, just drop me a line !

    Later pancakes ! Satu

Help!! Last night I was bored so I wrote down all the bands I'm
interested in listening to. Some are old bands and some are just baby
bands. I know that almost all these bands have been reviewed here on the
jam but I would rather to get newer reviews. I have about 30 bands with
multiple albums(plus japs w/extra tracks) to choose from and that's
messed up. What I want is not a real review but which albums should a
first time listener buy and if I should buy the american or import
version, also are the other albums even close to whichever one is the
    recommended one.
Here comes the huge *ss list!
    Amorphis
    Angra
    Arcturus
    At the Gates
    Blind Guardian
    Crandle of Filth
    Crimson Glory
    Dissection
    Dimmu Borgir

Here's some humor for our deteriorating consciences...

Seems there was a treasure ship on its way back to port. About halfway there, it was approached by a pirate ship, skull and crossbones waving in the breeze!

"Captain, captain, what do we do?" asked the first mate.

"First mate," said the captain, "go to my cabin, open my sea chest, and bring me my red shirt." The first mate did so.

Wearing his bright red shirt, the captain exhorted his crew to fight. So inspiring was he, in fact, that the pirate ship was repelled without casualties.

A few days later, the ship was approached again, this time by two pirate sloops!

"Captain, captain, what should we do?"

"First mate, bring me my red shirt!"

The crew, emboldened by their fearless captain, fought heroically, and managed to defeat both boarding parties, though they took many casualties. That night, the survivors had a great celebration. The first mate asked the secret of the captain's bright red shirt.

"It's simple, first mate," the captain relied, "if I am wounded, the blood does not show, and the crew continues to fight without fear."

A week passed, and they were nearing their home port, when suddenly the lookout cried that ten ships of the enemy's armada were approaching!

"Captain, captain, we're in terrible trouble, what should we do?" The first mate looked expectantly at the miracle worker.

Pale with fear, the captain commanded, "First mate... bring me my brown pants!"

    Take care!

The CD version on 2112 has the total time as 20:34.

Someone posted posted earlier about DT wanting to become top 40, and the questioned why DT would want this (or something like that).

I just want to say why wouldn't DT want to become top 40. Not that they money hungry American hyprocrites, but they want to expand peoples vision of music and since I think in the US Billboard and MTV are VERY closed-minded in the music they select.

Here are a few things they are missing:

Jazz Classical New Age Country Progressive I'm sure there are many others, but when you look what's out there you have Grung, Rap, Dance/Techno and Pop Rock.

One word about that line up : BORING!!!!!

I think it shows the simple mindedness of America and the laziness. Just my honest opinion. Americans would rather watch the boob tube and be fed garbage than challenge themselves.

Shirley is on a roll with his last two * projects, Aerosmith's "Nine Lives" and Silverchair's "Freak Show." Dream * Theater's long songs and elaborate productions will be a change from the radio * hits generated by those artists.

    * Band manager Rob Shore reports Shirley and the band will be going into a * small New York studio to start pre-production before heading to the old Power * Station, now called Avatar, June 2. The project is optimistically set for a release * on the East-West label early in the fall.

    * Meanwhile, Dream Theater nearly had their keyboard player snagged by Yes.

    * Derek Sherinian was being wooed by that band to replace the departed Rick * Wakeman. It seems that Yes had been scheduled to tour this summer but * Wakeman wouldn't go and subsequently left the band to concentrate on his * Christian music endeavors. Sherinian, flattered, none-the-less said no to the * Yes offer.
