Like Madden, I went to the first two days of Powermad. The crowd was a
little thin on both days, but considering that the organizers didn't really
promote the event, I wasn't suprised. The first day was pretty much a wash
for me. Division was the only band worth seeing. Mercury Rising was OK,
but not worth waiting until 1:00 to see them. The lead singer wins the
award for "best Ray Alder lookalike", though. :^)

Saturday was much better. I arrived at 5:00 and found out I didn't miss
much. I arrived in the middle of Soundscape's set. They sounded decent
enough, but I need to listen to their cd to know for sure. One of the band
members came up to me later and asked me where I got the "Yes" T-Shirt. I
told him I got it on the current tour. He then procedes to get the lead
singer to see it. He tells me that I aught to get their CD. I show him I
already have it. He then sees that I also have Angra's "Holy Land" in my
hand as well and tells me "That CD kicks ass". (The most common comment I
got all night.) Soundscape also get's my vote for coolest album cover of
    the show.

Opposite Earth came on next, out of order since they were supposed to start
the show. I was told the late start was because of missing cymbols and
they had to purchase new ones. They were a decent progressive band. I
decided not to pick up their CD.

Next came on The Quiet Room. These were the only guys who set up their own
drum kit. (everyone else was using the house kit.) They definitly were
the best band of the night. I have their CD as well.

Madden left at this point and I waited around until Leviathan (who kept
commenting on the fact that they had changed labels.) They were pretty
cool. The rest of the bands that evening were thrash bands, so I left.

The best part were the CD vendors there. They were offering good deals on
everything. If there was something you've been looking for, chances are
someone had it. I give a big thumbs up to Lazer's Edge for having the most
variety with the best prices. I got Angra's Holy Land for $16! :^)

There were a few jammers there. Pat Daughtery came the first night.
Madden was there. Mike Blevins was, of course, there. I also met another
guy wearing the O:M leather jacket.

Best band that canceled: Ice Age. These guys are the only one off the free
CD that I would have bought just from hearing their one song. It was
awsome! I later asked the dealers about them. They told me that their
guitarist car broke down and he couldn't make it. They passed out a demo
tape to one of the dealers. They don't have a CD as far as they know. If
anyone knows anything about this band, let me know.

Overall, it wasn't a bad show, but they need to get over the glitches and
the canceled bands. Also, it seemed like the thrash bands got more time
than the progressive bands. Maybe that is just me and my musical tastes
    showing through.

It didn't bother me at all. I was just trying to say that if someone
actually wants people to pay attention to him, trying not to throw out
flames like that is a great idea. If I were to receive a email like that

confirmation that his opinion was correct. (Yikes) Hehe... Take care...

I was watching Entertainment Tonight a couple of years ago and they had the

This was back when they sometimes had Metallica's "Enter Sandman" and the
like as opening music. Pity they had to stop...

Let me state for the record that Disney is truly evil, and strong in the running for Antichrist, along with Microsoft and the Church of Scientology (TM).

Yet I found myself watching parts of the Herbie movie, and at one part one of the characters wore a shirt with the T-Ride logo (very faded). T-Ride were a band which fit somewhere between cheesy glam-metal and keyboard rock, with lots of vocal harmonies. Very bizarre and obscure, and so a treat to see on national television.

There has only been one thing in my life worth living for, So it would take a true genius to fuck it up. Call me Einstein Hawkings Tolkien Heraclitus Darwin PKD Zappa. (http://www.afn.org/~afn39111)

Hey guys, just got back from the break.

I wonder who's in charge of deciding what albums get put in the listening stations at Tower? Man, I want that job! I was in the one by my house and the one on Broadway and something, midtown nyc, and obvioulsy it's a totally different setup and everything.

The one by my house had FII on one station, *and* Big Wreck on one! I didn't really get a good listen when I saw them, and come on, I was just waiting for *my* band to play, but this time I could listen fairly and I have to say it's a pretty sharp album. it's as good as any of the decent rock bands in the top 40.

I also saw the jap import FII but I just can't shell out 30 bucks for two extra songs and a japanese insert. I have them on mp3 anyay. I can wait.

    buh-bye now, josh rasi2290@splava.cc.plattsburgh.edu

The web page is at www.jersey.net/~lasercd (Ken Golden is the > quite-knowledgeable proprietor.)

I just got the catalog and am impressed to say the least. What I found most striking is how many bands were influenced by DT. There are quite a few prog-metal groups (particularly from Colorado and Italy!) which are listed as being quite similar to DT; examples include Arkhe, Empty Tremor, Divine Regale and Black Jester. If anyone has any opinions of these bands (Mr. Mitchell Soy need not respond), I'd like to hear them.

Regarding the moronic Mr. Soy, perhaps the best approach is to ignore him. Flaming will not cause him to reevaluate his ridiculous agenda, nor will it cause him to view listeners of prog-metal as anything other than crass and infantile whiners. I doubt that a reasoned intellectual argument would help, either. In my experience, the cognitively and musically challenged are best left to wallow in their own feces. They apparently prefer it that way.

    Happy X-Mas shopping.

    Hello all,

Hope all the U.S. Jammers had a happy Thanksgiving. Anyway, I read in our local paper the other day that our favorite MTV will be offering a few new channels soon. I read that they will be offering a hard rock/metal channel, along with a spanish/latino channel and maybe a rap channel . . . I can't remember. It would cost an added $10 on your local cable bill. But it all depends if your cable company offers the channels. They mentioned in the article that the cable company around here (Time Warner) doesn't have any plans of carrying the channels. I think MTV is finally listening to the complaints and requests . . . either that or they're just trying to make some more money (more likely). That's all for now.

Well, it is very interesting: yesterday I was watching MTV Brazil and they played some real cool thing: Through the Never, by "that" band. :-)

Also, the other day, when I was watching some boxing ads, I almost felt from my chair when I realised the song that was being played: Master of Puppets. When I told my father that the amount of heavy metal he heard when he was watching TV was incommensurable, he thought I were on crack... :-)

Man, I have no words to describe this fantastic CD. I think that it is one of the best things that I have ever heard. It's up there with I&W, FII, AJFA (yes, "that" band) and Opeth's albums. Definitely on my top 6. Thanks, Matt, sending for such a great CD (it's also the only CD that I have that both my mom and dad like :-) )!

*BUT* is this prog *metal*? I'm not even sure if I'd call it prog, let alone metal... It has some rock-n-roll passages, some fusion passages, but I wouldn't call it metal (well, when I hear the word metal, I immediately think of MoP).

BTW, do get this great CD if haven't yet. You won't be disappointed.

BTW2, how many classical music excerpts can you identify in this CD? I can identify 3 movements of Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker" suite, but I think that there are other passages that I'm not able to recognize. Hummm... Just wondering.

Also, I've noticed that some of these songs aren't common here in Brazil (maybe they are folk/popular songs from the US), but what is the name of the 8th song? I have heard it before I heard this CD and don't believe the name of this song is "Sarajevo 12/24" as it is listed in the tracklist.

If you could tell me more about your folklore, I'd be very grateful. Thanks.

Just waiting for my Cynic CD to arrive :-), Roger...
