It was posted earlier that DT is actually the opener for the
st andrews detroit show... Can anyone else confirm or deny this? My tickets
only say DT on them, I don't care if they go on early but if they play
a shortened set I'm gonna hafta start kicking some ass... Can anyone call
st. andrew's or something? I'm pissed off enough that tickets had already
been on sale for four days before I just happened to stumble on the fact that
there was a detroit show scheduled. I know there
I know there's really no one to blame for this but there's still no excuse
for piss-poor promotion of this magnitude... people can't even confirm dates
that they're pretty sure exist. Oh well, I shouldn't bitch, at least I know
I'll be seeing them in some capcity. Good luck to those of you who still
have a big ol' ticketmaster dick up your ass.

Umm....why do people worry so much about this? Take the time to notice
and you will find that there isn't shit there to begin with. If you
study their other albums, there is about 2 pages of liner notes dedicated
to thank you's. And look at it now....not much, but condensed enough so
everyone is included within a few lines.

Hell, they didn't even thank Fatez Warning (I&W.... ;)) and they are
pretty good pals with the band. Hell, in Awake every family member worth
mentioning was, but now it's just FAMALIES. Umm, I don't know how everyone
else was raised, but I was told that family came first amongst strangers.
If their family wasn't "worthy" of being named out, I think it's just fine that
we were catagorized as "Fans across the world."

Just be thankful we have a great new DT album and tour to contend with. That
in itself should satisfy us Ytsejammers.

    Later,

    Jeff E.

         Hi,

Once again I have spent the first Half Hour at work trawling through
Jams. I have read posts from people bleating about the lack of tour
dates, the size of venues, the time of gigs (gee, it's a Wednesday -
that sucks) the lack of thanks on the CD cover, even the fact that the
Fan Club address is in the UK!

WE HAVEN'T EVEN HAD FII RELEASED IN THE UK YET - SO SHUT UP AND BE
GRATEFUL FOR WHAT YOU'VE GOT !!!!!!

         ahh, that's better....

you've got to be kidding me, kai. i don't know whether to laugh at you, or feel bad for you. you sound like an irritated groupie or bitter stalker. after 3 years of waiting for new material, i would think that who they thank is irrelevant. i think i can speak for a lot of people here- WHO THE FUCK CARES who's on their thank you list? that silly little petition probably had no effect.

by any chance, do you also recommend that people call up the band's management to complain about the lack of tour dates?

it's one thing for a band to want to have interest in their fans. to demand that they practically bend over backwards for any fan is something quite different.

"we're the real fan club"- if the "real fan club" follows the attitude you're displaying, then the "real fan club" is full of sorry people who need their heads checked. i fucking LOVE dt, as imperfect as i think they are- as much as i hate "peruvian skies"- as much as i like to call mp "porntoy." NO WAY IN HELL would i even make it a argument issue that the ytsejam wasn't thanked. SOOOOO FUCKING WHAT? not happy that james doesn't say enough about "the internet"?

    too fucking bad.

Well, this is kind of a whacked contest, but anyway.. The first person to e-mail me gets a jacked version of the second disc of "Caught in Amsterdam '97". This disc has: 1. Lines in the Sand (15:46) 2. Take Away My Pain (7:01) 3. A Change of Seasons - The Darkest of Winters (5:12) 4. The Ytsejam (6:30) 5. Learning to Live (~10:30 out of 16:45) 6. Metropolis - Part 1 (13:49)

The reason it's jacked is because I accidently screwed up Learning to Live. Only ten and a half minutes (out of the 16:45) are there, so you miss the cool new instrumental at the end, but hey, it's free. =) There's only one catch to this contest, you gotta live in the USA (for postage cost considerations, sorry =).

And just so you know, the replicas I sell of "Caught in Amsterdam '97" *aren't* messed up, they are _exactly_ like the original. This was a complete freak disc, trust me. Sorry fellow digest-ers, looks like the ACK people have the advantage on this one. =)

Ok... a lot of people are complaining about DT not booking dates around where they are. Relax people, this is only a preliminary leg of the tour, they are going to be touring for A WHILE. After this first part of the tour, I believe they will be hitting Europe, and then the US when they get back here again. This is will be the meat of the tour, the second leg. So don't worry about the 21 and over shows and crap like that, cause you WILL get to see them!!!

    Antwort an: Falling into maturity?

There was quite a discussion about wether or not FII was showing more "maturity" than I&W, not only on this list, but I have those sorts of discussion with several friends of mine. I do dig what they mean and how they mean it, and in a way they even may be right, but I wanna tell you why something inside of me always cringes with pain when someone refers to music using verbs as "mature", "good", "intelligent" or "demanding".

A couple of friends of mine are studying classical music, and every now and then I accompany them to a classical concert (Bach, Vivaldi, Bruckner...). Although I'm not heavily into classical music I do like it, but I do not like the way my friends are running down every music that's not classical. DT for example is noise, Marillion is pop, and classical music is the only - yeah, you guess it - "mature" music. Everything else is "immature", and so are the listeners, they just don't know what "real" music is. Uhuh.

Another friend of mine is heavily into Jazz. And of course he thinks that Jazz in the only "real thing", it's - guess what - "mature", and everything else sucks. He even thinks he's somehow "better" than others, more "mature" because he likes Jazz instead of "that pop-crap you listen" (yes, he is actually referring to Dream Theater!).

I always considered myself as "open-minded", and I was so proud of myself being "different" from those somehow pretentious friends of mine. I'm really tolerant - so I used to think. But not so long ago my brother opened my eyes. He's heavily into techno music, and he's a DJ. Well, recently I had an argument with him, because he also composes techno music with his computer without even knowing basic facts in musical theory. I was running down techno music, telling him there was no feeling in it, telling him that every song sounded the same and that a "real musician" could only laugh at this dull noise techno fans call "music". He looked at me quietly and hurt, and finally he said: "I'm sorry but I can't see the difference between us. Your music means everything to you. So does my music mean everything to me. I would give my life for my music. So what gives you the right to think your music is better than mine?" I have never felt so ashamed before. I think I have learned my lesson.

The playing of J. Petrucci, J. Matheos and S. Rothery touches my soul so deeply that during their shows the tears keep on running down my cheeks. This is what music is about - it's the heart that knows what "real music" is about, not the mind. And as we all are different, we are touched by different kinds of music. To consider other musical tastes than ours as immature is the real immaturity (yes I do know you jammers meant it in a different way, I'm NOT referring to your mails, I just want to tell you why I don't like the verb "mature" when talking about music). As long as a piece of music moves the inside of just one single human being, it has fulfilled its aim - no matter if it's classical, jazzy, progressive, pop, rap or techno. Let's stop judging music by how it is composed - we better start judgin it by what it does to its listeners. If an Eros Ramazotti song does make someone feel the same way we feel when listening to Trial of Tears - so where is the difference? Let's face it: there is no difference. Let tolerance surround you,

    Barbara

    Hi,

    > WDADU is on a different label! Of course Elektra aren't going to mention it! > And Live at the Marquee is a European/Japanese release only! Hence it's > non-inclusion; this is an American company/web-site, remember?

What is up with this label? Why was LATM a Euro/Jap release only? Us UK (and Oz jammers) are complaining because FII is released later than anywhere else (if at all). But if LATM wasn't officialy released in the US, then that's just as bad. The label have got it wrong somewhere. Why not release everything everywhere where they have a definate fan base? How else are they going to attract new sales?

    > 'FII' hasn't even got/had/have a local release here so don't hold your > breathe for a tour just yet. > Without a release of their most recent product do you seriously think that > DT's record company will finance a tour here ? > What we can do is start hassling the record company about releasing it > here.

This also sucks. I am DYING to see DT live, and as a UK Jammer I have missed all opportunities to see them so far (and that's not many over here.) If they don't release the record, how do we expect them to tour? Luckily FII looks as though it will be out soon, so hopefully the tour won't be far behind. I've now moved from the North East of England (where DT would never play in a millenium) down south, so I now have a chance of seeing a London show. Let's just hope they play London this time. > Fuck the fan club. We have over 1000 people talking about Dream Theater > every single day of the year, including Christmas. Now that's a fan club. > I don't need to send someone my $15 to hear about DT 4 times a year.

Well you can't expect to get the CD then. :) It's been said before I'm sure, but over here the fan club news letters every 3 months is all we get to hear on DT (apart from the jam). So I for one am *VERY* grateful to the fan club for keeping us up to date and the free CDs are worth the subscription fee alone. Keep up the good work Neil!

    > Cover my Eyes: If DT are looking for a "hit" single, why on earth did they > pick YNM over this? IMO, this song has "hit" written all over it. They'd > just have to get rid of some of the high notes James sings, and make the > chorus a bit more catchy (so bring in Desmond Child for that), but overall, > I think it's a much more "radio friendly" song than YNM...

How on earth did people get access to these songs (CME and WAYN)? They are superb. I hope they get a full release soon. I agree, CME is an excellent track, but obviously the band (or the label) preffered YNM (which IMO is just as good). Cheers to all jammers who make this stuff available! It's thanks to them I've got to hear FII before it's released (even though it's taking up 70MB of hard disk space!) I have yet to dump it all to mini-disc until I get the CD.

Has any copies of the Japanese FII made it to the UK yet? Anybody seen one? I'm off to London this weekend so I hope to find a copy.

STILL waiting patiently for a "proper" copy of FII (and having to read you lot bitching about it!)...
