Hi all, The general concensus has been that this was a bad idea. They
can't all be winners. I called the radio station again tonight and they
do indeed have the track. The DJ I talked to had even listened to it
and liked it. She couldn't play it because it hadn't been added to the
rotation yet. I'm gonna call tomorrow while the programing director is
there and see what he has to say. I'm prepared to have all my friends
call up and request it if that's what it takes!

Amidst the talk about crappy radio stations and DJs, many people have
recommended tuning in to your local college stations. I just want to
remind those people that many mnay many college stations, including the
one at my college, only play the absolute worst in obscure alterna-freak
crap..you would more likely hear DT ona rap station than on a lot of
college stations.

Someone asked about Conception's latest 'Flow' and whether they had gone 'alternative' ? ROTFLMAO........................... No way maties, if you have heard some Conception, you know what to expect, comparing them to their two previous album's, 'Flow' flows (pardon the pun) along the same lines, still as heavy, a little more progressive and more keyboards and the songs are catchier, a few different things with the vocals. A great album, my fave of the year so far, along with Enchant's 'Time Lost', oh yeah, the Japanese import has a killer bonus song too.
I picked up the Jap import of Whitsnake's 'Restless Heart' on Friday. Well, I think Coverdale should give it away, this is a very average AOR/Blues album to say the least, Coverdale's voice is shot, he reaches those high notes sounding very strained indeed. No Steve Vai on this album to prop up the weaker songs, Coverdale himself has produced the album himself, another bad move. My advice: give it a damned good listen before you shell out the big bucks, don't know when the US release is, the UK version is out under the guise of 'David Coverdale's Whitesnake', with 3 less songs than my jap copy.

Hi! This "long songs" - thread may start to annoy some people, but just for the record: this habit of performing entire works of course comes from classical music, and ecolved out of progressive rocks fondness for imitating its ways. The first time this was done probably was when Deep Purple performed Jon Lords "Concerto for Group and Orchestra" in 1970.
..Eh, I just remembered: Moody Blues played the entire "Days of Future Passed" with an orchestra in 1967...that's probably the first.

Whoo-hoo! Only 3 weeks till FALLING INTO INFINITY...
I actually know a few people who might get it to me early, but this time I'm not gonna worry about it. The surprise will be kinda neat for a change. It was frustrating with both Awake and ACOS to try and get through the heads of people I knew that "this is the NEW Dream Theater!" and properly convey the importance and excitement. By the time the album came out, it was just a matter of buying artwork. Now, it's back to the "ooh-aah" of yesteryear.
I rented a few things I hadn't really checked out before... lasers of Beverly Hills Ninja and First Strike... and they were kinda cool! Actually they were both way fun to watch. Quite under-rated if you like action/comedy mixes. Also rented N64 Starfox and Blast Corps. Ah, if only I could afford to buy them, for both are good. Maybe I'll get one for an anniversary present in November. :) It's ironic really, when I quit collecting laserdiscs, the LD player was still the only CD player in my house (not counting CD-ROM drives). It's been kinda lonely lately. :) The only LDs I kept were Star Wars trilogy, Disney, and the Rush Five. I forgot entirely that I _could_ have just been renting movies this whole time, since I had kinda gotten out of the habit lately with the summer theater schedule being so sweet this year.
I found something interesting out about OFB (Our Favourite Band, Dream Theater, the same way the people in the Simpsons areas on the net refer to OFF, or Our Favourite Family, for the Simpson Five, and I honestly think the abbreviation is perfect!) I had time over this Labor Day weekend to burn a LOT of CDs, and didn't have many errands, so I listened through some of my 40 or so Images And Words tour tapes. I noticed an amazing consistency among the band members from show to show, including James. Now in KJLB's case it's a case of consistently struggling, but he never gets truly _bad_ no matter how late in the tour the tape is from, or if the tape is from the third or fourth night in a row. And this was back then, when the band was still rather raw at this! I'm more and more impressed with OFB every day. Mike's drums were some of the most interesting things to listen to. It seemed like every show he would add just one minor tweak to maybe one song, starting sometime in the middle of the tour. He's been doing it ever since, more obviously on the Awake and subsequent tours. By the end of the tour, songs sound vastly more advanced than they do on the album. But from show to show, it's like Indiana Jones discovering the Ark when you hear some nuance that you can _confirm_ was not there the night before. It's really quite a trip.
I think the song most changed in this manner happened on the later tours. Listen to "Lie" from the Fix for 96/97 tours... it's practically a different song, drum-wise! :) John Petrucci did this also to a lesser extent. Myung and Moore were impossible to hear most of the time due to the quality (or lack thereof) on many cassettes.
Anyway, my third annual "Thoughts" post, which this time will focus even more on OFB as we stand on the threshold of their new masterpiece (we hope), should be along sometime next week, right on schedule. I won't say when exactly, I'll just spring it on all of ya. Understand that I don't do it out of a sense of ego or obnoxiousness, I just like to do that annual esoteric ponderance to keep my own mind in motion and hopefully prod a few other minds back "awake" if I'm lucky, and of course because nothing gives me greater pleasure than making people laugh. If someone can laugh at me, then they can't possibly hate me, and that's pretty cool. And finally because it looks like Jam content is improving somewhat lately, and I want try to help continue the trend in the only way I know how. Take care everyone!
