last sunday I was watching Mtv (we get latin Mtv) and the VJ was talking
about Page and Plant and like nothing he said...well...next video is Hollow
years from Dream Theater, I just jumped from the coach to tape it but my
VCR wasnt carrying any video so I decided I could only watch...anyway, the
video is ok, but I though it was directed by portnoy and according to the
video is was directed by another person (dont remember his name)
I was very happy about this (Mtv playing Hollow Years ) and I told my
little cousin about that (he's 13 years old and Mtv is his favorite
    channel...yuck!)
and he told me they play the video more less often....so i think this is
    pretty interesting...
    anyone else has latin Mtv?
    let me know

Hiya, Well, the St. Louis Gathering is gettting rather large. If we can all agree on a place, I'll make the reservations for a large table and all that jazz.

I've been asked how much the tickets for the show are, I'm not sure but I'll call Metrotix tomorrow and find out how much and when they go on sale.

    List as of now:

St Louis DT Jammers: Seth Hatlelid (and girlfriend, and 3 other friends) <srhatlel@artsci.wustl.edu> Dale R. Newberry <drnewb@spiff.net> Tom Cox (and girlfriend) Nugetman (and five or so friends) <lexine@rollanet.org>

    Bottom line:

Anyone who tells you that Mesa blows Marshall away, is talking out of their ass. There's no way around that. Why do I say this? Because Marshall is a very inconsistent amp company, and some of their amps have legendary tone, while others suck. You can have any Marshall mod'ed (any TUBE Marshall) to get it to rip, big time. Mesa is great... I use all Mesa stuff right now... but I am very wary of people just saying that one kills the other... the tone Kiko gets on Angra's Holy Live isn't Mesa, and I LOVE it. Most of my favorite tones aren't Mesa. Mesa IS a pretty consistent amp company. Comparing to another consistent company, I would not have bought my TriAxis and 2:90... Bogner, IMO makes a better line of amps. But it's all taste. Don't let someone raving about one kind of amp stop you from checking out several.

Found another 7 string company (TimTone). I'm gonna have to compile a list.

Ok I'm just a bit confused here, so I hope someone (Mike) can clear this up. There was a tentative date set for Salt Lake City on the preliminary leg of the tour, but it was cancelled. We were all ok with that because DT promised that for the main leg they'd be a lot more thorough and hit a lot more places. Here's what I don't understand: Not only is DT not coming within a 12 hour drive of SLC, but their "main" leg is turning out to be quite a bit shorter than the preliminary leg. I live in Idaho and will be driving to Los Angeles to see DT. This is fine with me, but I really don't understand why they'd skip the whole western half of the US other than Cali. I figured they'd at least hit Arizona for crying out loud. Doesn't Megadeth play like 15 shows there every month just because they know that Arizona loves metal? Sheesh. Sorry about this, but I still haven't seen DT live and it's killing me.

    Hi everyone...

The shocking news of Cozy Powell's untimely death at the age of 50 this past Sunday is greatly saddening to me. He has been one of my favorite drummers ever since I first heard him on Rainbow's masterful "Live on Stage" album, and since then I've admired his work with The Michael Schenker Group, Emerson, Lake & Powell, Black Sabbath and, most recently, Yngwie Malmsteen. I'll always remember him as the definitive power drummer, a player ofimmense strength and presence onstage. His double bass drum-heavy style was so unique and distinctive that you always knew it was him from the moment he started playing, no matter which band he happened to be with at the time. This singular "voice" is probably the most difficult thing for any musician to achieve on his or her instrument, and it's what I'll always remember most about him. Cozy spoke through his drums with one of the most authoritative and self-assured styles ever heard in the world of heavy rock, and that world is a much poorer place for his absence now and forever more.

Thank you, Cozy Powell, for all the wonderful music you helped bring to life (such as "Gates of Babylon," from Rainbow's classic "Long Live Rock and Roll" album, which Dream Theater used to play in concert back when they were still called Majesty; Mike Portnoy played every part *exactly* as Cozy did). You will be sorely missed. *sigh* :^(

-- Jeff (thankful for his Emerson, Lake & Powell 1986 and Rainbow 1977 concert videos)

the thing with milli vanilli is that they did playback because they werent into cheesy pop music, they were prog rockers, so now they are using some children to do what they did on the 80s, they took some pop boys and who are in fact singing are the guys of milli vanilli, so I guess there wont be empty tremor anymore....

Friends, Got three CD's from cheap-cds.com within the last three days you might be interested in.

Jason Becker: Perpetual Burn At last, I have this disc! I had no idea just how emotional and multifacetted Becker is. It fucking sucks that he can't play anymore. His classical chops are just as impressive as his picking. To me, he's kind of a combination of Nuno Bettencourt, Steve Vai, and Paul Gilbert.

Mahavishnu Orchestra: Inner Mounting Flame My first Mahavishnu disc and all I can say is ah yeeeeeah! No wonder where Steve Morse got all his ideas. I was scared that Mclaughlin might have soundid like he did on Love, Devotion, and Surrender, but he sounds much better and just sweet. Very awesome stuff if you like the Dregs especially.

The Hellecasters: Escape from Holywood Perhaps my favorite disc of all. Sure, these guys don't have the picking, sweeping, or tapping chops of some people, but not even Steve Vai uses a whammy bar with such impressive skill. Not only that, but few guitarists can match the emotion and love for music which went into this disc. Kind of country/surf instrumentals with beautiful melodies and all clean. They kick serious ass! I think Michael Lee Firkins probably got a lot of ideas from these guys. A must get.

Hope you enjoyed these reviews and they open some doors. Be well. Matt B
