In case anyone is interested, http://cayman.ebay.com is auctioning an yngwie
signature model strat. Right now it's at about $225 and it ends tomorrow at
about 3:30 pacific time. I don't have that kinda money to blow or else I'd
think about it. Scalloped frets would be neato.

Every spring I watch the seeds in the air from the cotton wood trees on the
    banks of the river.
Some find their way to a home in the ground, some never seem to find
    anywhere.
Those in the earth, may they never stop growing, and those in the air may
    they fly free.
I'll be deep in the valley where the Boulder River is waiting for you to fly
    back to me.

Okay folks, I was wondering if anyone has heard the new White Willow album
and if so if it is any good. Also I want to know people's suggestions for
what Marillion albums to buy. I have already heard Disc 2 of The Thieving
Magpie (aka a good chunk of Misplaced Childhood -> which I LOVED!!!). Some
have said to get Misplaced Childhood, others have said This Engine. Any
    ideas?

            -Shane

PS: Could y'all please email me with the info?

However, Matthew, mi amigo, his first comment isn't actually a complete
sentence. 'Tis merely a sentence fragment. (-8

Well. While you're at it, I'll have to correct you in that you should have
capitalized the "t" in "this". That *was* a new sentence/idea, regardless
of the parentheses. Dank-oo veddy mach.

    Hello all,

I came home from work today and found two very interesting things in the mail. The first was my DT tickets for Irving Plaza . . . woo hoo! And the second, much to my surprise, was a Birthday greeting from DT. I was sooo psyched. All it was was a paper folded in half that has the bands pic on the front and on the inside it says Happy Birthday from Dream Theater and the International Fan Club. And then it's signed by all the band. They also included a little pin on button with the Majesty logo on it. Can I get an Amen for the band and Neil and the Fanclub?

Even though they were a week early on the gift (understandably, since it was sent from England) I couldn't care less . . . hell, they could have sent it a month early and I wouldn't have cared.

So I give much thanks to the Neil and the band . . . made my day.

    See y'all at Irving Plaza,

    -Brian Anderson

I've seen (of course) the funky new plates D-Man is talking about, and I agree that maybe the R looks kinda like the R in the DT font. But I would hardly say it's the same font. This Merlo guy just gets all excited as a hootananny over the silliest things, doesn't he? :)

O.k. I really hate to start yet another flame war here, but I've gotta say something. Is it REALLY necessary to take $15 from someone who wants some "Rare" Dream Theater material...when the cost is virtually minimal??? I have recently spent numerous hours downloading "Rare" DT MP3's from various sites on a VERY shitty 386 machine using merely a 14.4 modem...a TOTAL pain in the ass, so I can make myself a CD of "Rare" DT stuff...and I REALLY hate to tell you people this, but you can buy CD-R's for $1.50 at Sam's (in packs of 10). If a person has spent money on a CD burner...I seriously doubt they bought the thing with anyone other than themselves in mind, nad I've decided I have a serious problem with people who are allowing a fellow DT enthusiast to pay them more than the cost of a CD. So, here's what I'm going to do. I have a couple of friends who have CD burners, and allow me to burn whatever with them for FREE...I will talk with them about this, and see if they have a problem with helping a few fellow DT enthusiasts with the problem of "Ytserobbers" as I'm going to call them. I will select 10 of the poorest Ytsejammers who ask me to, and I will burn them a CD-R 100% playable on your normal everyday CD player for $1.50 plus whatever it will cost to ship it to wherever the hell you live, using whatever the hell mailing option you want. So all in all you can get the thing for like $3 I make NO profit, and all I get out of this is the self satisfaction of helping some poor people like myself out. So...if you are a broke DT enthusiast, who would like to listen to some cool DT stuff...send me E-mail, and I will tell you what's going on. Note...I will not allow you to give me anything more than the cost, and I WILL NOT let you pay me until the CD has been burned, and is ready to be sent the day after your payment arrives. Also...I will make it VERY clear on the CD itself...somehow...that the CD was made for only $1.50 so if you decide to sell it for a profit or something...people know what was REALLY spent on the damn thing! This is only a 1 time deal, and the greedy/rich/bootlegcollecting people need not bother with me!

DT IS alternative. They're an alternative to the disposable shit that has infested the album charts.

    --and--

    > I don't understand why so many people hate VH III. You should have known > well ahead of time that the fun party songs of Hagar/Roth era were gone.

For me, it's not the lack of "fun party songs" that's the problem. I don't mind more serious subject matter. "Right Now" is hardly a party song, nor is "Don't Tell Me What Love Can Do." The problem I have with the album is the alarming lack of hooks amoung the songs. They just don't seem to stick in your head. There are exceptions: "Without You" is on par with anything they've done in the past, as is "Dirty Water Dog." "One I Want" is decent, "Once" is pretty good, and "Ballot Or The Bullet" is actually growing on me. But the rest is entirely forgetable. "From Afar" is just plain weird, "A Year To The Day" wanders like a kid at a county fair, and "Fire In The Hole" is too bland.

    > Gary Cherone's vocal abilities are far better than Roth and Hagar > combined.

    I agree. He's also a great performer.

Extreme didn't put out fun party songs.

Do you have the first album?
