This is probably the healthiest way to look at FII. The band's trying
something out. Give them a little patience, and we'll see how they react to
our reactions. It's the same thing as trying a new live jam, except that it
takes a good 6 months to a year to get the reaction, instead of 5 minutes.

Hey guys (including you little underage pubescent whippersnappers),
Due to a variety of reasons (never heard 'em, high praise on the Jam,
the need to fulfill my commitment to Columbia House before I can quit.
Again.) I picked up The Best of King's X.
While not as heavy or progressive as I was expecting, I found it to
be
a really good cd. Anyway, IMO!, they sound a lot like Extreme.
My questions are:
Does anyone else hear the similarities?
Who influenced who?
Is this cd really the best of King's X?
NDTC so private mail is ok. Forward it to the ET list while you're at
it. :)
The theme of this post is King's X and I'm sure Mike Bahr would agree,

I haven't yet worn earplugs to a concert, and I always regret it. Just
plugging your ears with your fingers makes it sound twice as good, but you
can't do that all night. Well, you could. But I wouldn't. I'd never get
to 'accidentally' fondle the chicks in front of me.
So I took a look at the drugstore, and they had 5 or 6 different types, all
basically soft foam that you squish into a little cylinder and cram into
your ear canal. They had the decibel reduction rating right on the
package; they all reduced the noise by 28-33 decibels.(decibles? I don't
think so, I know it's short for "deci" "bell"...) Anyway, that's enough to
prevent the following after concert situation:
guy1: cool concert, huh?
guy2:(looks at shirt) Thanks, I got it for christmas!
guy1: Go take a piss? I'll kick your ass, mothafo!

Hossa!!!
Ok, I just had to jump out of my hole and post something because
so many people were writing something about FII.
I can only say that I really love this album. I can't understand,
how somebody can say that this album isn't as good as Awake
or IaW. Of course, this is all a matter of taste and of course
everybody has to judge by himself what he/she thinks is best.
The only thing I don't like too much is the overall sound of the album.
But this again is just a matter of taste. Somehow the sound
fits to the songs though. And I like the songs as they are.
I'm not a big fan of CD's where some musicians just want to
show how fast they can play that scale on the guitar and
that roll on the drums. On FII are real songs and IMHO that
is it what music is about. There is feeling in the songs
and I like that. So I have not much to complain here. :)
I also really love Awake and IaW but for different
matters. IaW is for me an album where 5 incredible
musicians show how great music can be if you are
highly skilled on your instrument. Awake is more
heavy and I like it therefore. Every DT album has
its own soul somehow and I like each of it for different
reasons. And I'm sure that the next album will sound
different again and some people will like it and
some won't. DT shows, that they progress in their
"work" and maybe that's it what causes the changes
in songwriting and sound of an album. If they would
only release the same stuff every time, people would
probably loose their interest also. I can only say
that I like all of the albums. Amen. :)
Happy jamming. :)
Bye
Bernd
PS: For those who are interested in Superior: We're
mixing the songs at the moment and I think I can
say that we will get a killer sound for the new
album. Just to make you curious. :) I'll try to
put out the next Superior newsletter in 2 weeks
or so. If somebody is interested in it and not
yet on my list, just send me an email...

It must have been The Gene Krupa Band since Gene Krupa was the first
drummer to utilize double bass.
My thoughts about FII...
The album could have been better if the mix would have been done
properly.Not much, though.
New Millennium.
Kinda nice at first but it gets boring real quick.
You not me.
Cool song at first but it doesnīt stand up to many listens.
Peruvian Skies.
Again, a good song at first but gets boring after a few listens.
Hollow Years
unlistenable.Live it was kinda nice.
Burning my Soul.
One of the better songs in FII.It was great live.I still wouldnīt listen
this many times in a row.
Hellīs Kitchen.
Almost unlistenable.Sounds more like a free form jam than a complete
song.
Lines in the sand.
The best song in the album with very few(if any)boring parts.
Take Away my pain.
Listening this all the way through is a daunting task.I wonīt do it
voluntarily any more.
Just Let me Breathe
Best song after Lines in the sand. That little "discussion"between guitar
and keyboards is great.
Anna Lee
Unlistenable
Trial of Tears
This song was kinda good at first but now I donīt like it at all.Too
predictable and boring.

My name is Kevin Rackley. My bands name is Amythyst. Our URL is:

Our band is not prog, but it follows KISS with some Sevendust and Creed
(a little grunge sound) thrown in. We are based here in Richmond, VA and
are currently getting set up to play in the "shockoe bottom" area of
Richmond.
Thanks for the link. I have already had a link to UACM for several

Don't you think that traveling is also
one of the main themes of "Fly by night"?
Think of "Fly by night", "Making memories"
, "Rivendel" (Tolkien!!).

I would say that "Anthem" is about what he [Neil]

namely rational self-interest.
It is based on the Ayn Rand novella of the same name.

Wow, this Hank thing is REALLY taking off!!
When I sent the message the other day, he had about 300 and some votes and was sitting at #35. Now, he has over 3000 votes and it NUMBER 2!!
He's right behind Leonarde DiCraprio. He needs less than 1000 votes to take the lead. Please go to the following site and vote if you haven't done so already...
http://www.pathfinder.com/people/50most/1998/vote/index.html
Again, this is for People Magazines 50 Most Beatiful People list. Who knows if Hank will actually make it in the magazine (I'm sure they drop him as a joke candidate) but it'll certainly be fun to see him beat out that little punk DiCraprio. He's already passed Hanson and the Backdoor Boys. !! Gotta love him for that!
Make sure you get the name right, it's... Hank the Angry, Drunken Dwarf
Thanks to those who have voted already!!

Guess who wrote about Opeth?! :-)
Anyway, what I said was that they were the second biggest selling act from Century Media. They're not the biggest ones (which is Emperor). But I do know that The Gathering has a very big sales potential (it's obvious after one listens to "Mandylion").
