Most of us "kids" in southern CA have known about this for a long time.
Its usually the first thing us "kids" look for when we hear DT is touring.
I was surprised as hell, usually HOB has a real stick up their ass. But we
all know why, so no reason to rehash that thread. Most wouldnt want to
    hear about it anyway.

I cant help but think HOB made these two shows all ages because MP bitched
about it. If you did Mike, thanks.

    See all you "kids" there.

    Jam,

Does anyone know what the times of the SF show are? What time the doors
open, the opening act starts, and DT starts?

Also, where would you go to get good quality earplugs? THere was a thread
about it but I didn't see a positive answer. I'm guessing possibly the
Wherehouse(sp) might carry something, or maybe a drug store, but I just
    don't know where.

    Hey 'Jammers,

The latest update to the Jaxx Website no longer makes reference to OFB coming
in May. Oh well, Daytona's here we come! MP, see you there!

Bafu, why don't you answer? I feel so alone!!!!

Re: FII ratings>>> I love it all. I don't skip any songs. The whole thing
still kicks my ass. I can bang my head to NM & PS, sing the "poppy" harmonies
in YNM(still the better version), cry my eyes out at TAMP(the demo IS more
emotional, but has the tempo of watching ice melt), close my eyes and fly with
HK/LiTS(my personal favorite), rock out and thumb my nose with JLMB, reaffirm
my love for KJLB's vox with AL, and then respect the hell out of Mr. Myung's
ability to put together a song lyric(again) with ToT(another wonderful
'trilogy'). Oh yeah, HY: nothing wrong with this one either, I (again) love
    to sing along.
As for the ones left out, for the most part I think all of them would fit in
anywhere, but I'm very fond of TWIUTB(7/8 of it, anyway. It does sort of
    meander towards the end).
These are my opinions, so flames are unwelcome, but civil
    disagreement/agreement is always welcome.
    Thank you for your time.

Okay, now that I see this in context, I understand how my use of the word
"kids" might appear to be condescending. I'd like to point out that
regardless of the content of my post (all ages show), I was going to start
it off with the word "kids". Had I posted about how well I think FII has
aged, I'd have started it off with "kids". With that said, I apologize if
    I insulted anyone.

As for the content being rehashed, I just found out about the shows being
all-ages and don't recall seeing it posted before. Pardon me for having
overlooked the original thread and wasting your valuable time. I'm sorry I
tried to help when it wasn't needed in the first place.

    Greetings, all ye Jammer-faithful...

I just received my copy of "Traumatized," which is the very first CD by this
exceptionally talented new band, and I must say that it's quite an impressive
debut. After the first couple of listens, the only obvious influence I can
pick out is early Kansas; these guys already seem to have a sound and style of
their own. Sean Frazier's powerful, passionate vocals remind me of the young
Steve Walsh in their soulful intensity; Chris Ogburn's electric and acoustic
guitars are alternately textural and biting, and his solos are always tasty
and melodic; Michael Grimes' keyboards are the centerpiece of the band's
sound, and his playing is some of the best in the pure prog vein I've heard
this year; Craig Polson's bass work is strong without being overpowering, and
grooves tightly with Matthew Lipford's volcanic drumming. The songs (most of
which are quite long) are thoughtfully structured, intricately arranged, and
chock full of all those classic prog trademarks: crystalline vocal harmonies,
crisp Hammond organ, lots of Mini-Moog solos and melodies, and a rhythm
    section that just won't quit.

    Here's the track list:

The King Always Wins (Music by M. Grimes) 0:52
Relativity (Music by Puppet Show/Lyric by Polson) 11:57
As Ye Hath Sown (Music by Grimes, Johnson, Lipford, Ogburn & Polson/Lyric by
    Polson) 6:53
Marathon (Music by Puppet Show/Lyric by Frazier) 14:01
In the Heart of Man (Music by Grimes, Johnson, Lipford, Ogburn & Polson/Lyric
    by Polson) 12:05
The Ring of Truth (Music by Grimes, Johnson, Lipford, Ogburn & Polson/Lyric
    by Polson) 9:38

My only less-than-positive criticism of this album is that the drums aren't
quite as up front in the mix as they should be, overshadowed by vocals,
keyboards and guitars, but that's really a pretty minor flaw. Anyway, I
highly recommend that you visit their website (http://www.puppetshow.com/) and
link from there to Kinesis Records' site and order this CD either online or by
printing out a snail-mail order form as I did. I'm pretty certain you won't
    be disappointed. :^)

Obligatory DT content: I wonder if Mike Portnoy, who's a fan of Spock's
Beard, California's finest prog export (along with Enchant), has heard of this
band as well. I imagine that anyone who likes SB will probably also like
    Puppet Show.

Well, I just have to jump on this bandwagon, cuz this is about the only
place i can talk about the album....Now, first I'm going to talk about
my first listen, which wasn't in depth, just kind of a test run..:)
Afterwards, I listened more closely, and boy did those first opinions
change...:) So don't be upset with me...:)

When New Millenium first started, I didn't care for it...as a person
already jilted by most of Queensryche's Hear in the Now Frontier, I
didn't want my other fav band to even tilt toward much change. You Not
Me confirmed this even more, and I was really getting disgusted.
Things started to look up with Peruvian Skies, I liked the flow of it,
has some fabulous work by Petrucci, but the song as a whole didn't
blow me away, it was just decent. Hollow Years really impressed me
from the start, I loved the intro, I've always liked Petrucci with an
acoustic sound(that's one of my fav parts in LTL). Yes, it sounded
lighter, but hell, Light can be good, I'm not into DT because they're
heavy metal, i'm into them because they're a progressive rock band.
Just Let Me Breath caught me with that deep groove, the lyrics were
excellent, it sounded a little too MTV for me, but later on, I realize
it's supposed to...:) Anna Lee, I started it, and then I skipped it, i
couldn't listen to much of it, too bland at first...

Burning My Soul was good, but not great, It was catchy, but not much
past that...Hell's Kitchen is when my whole attitude toward the album
changed....I loved it, is it just me or do i sense a bit of Pink Floyd
influence in hell's kitchen and Trial of Tears??? Lines in the Sand
just totally blew me away, as it still does...Take Away my Pain was
another song that I skipped at first, i didn't know the history of it,
so i just skipped it..stupid me... Trial of Tears is another one that
blew me away, the solos, and the choruses were outstanding, DT sure
knows how to finish an album....

Now, that was my first listen, next message is my current feelings...:)

well, as you see, i wasn't so pleased with the album at first...however, certain songs, mostly in the second half, made me keep listening, and now, I listen to that album constantly STILL, and I'd say it's my fav DT album, the groove is excellent, the production is superb, and I really like Derek Sherinian on Keyboards, he adds a whole different dimension than Kevin Moore did(not knocking Kevin or anything)

New Millenium at first got a C from me, now I give it an A-, once again, the keyboards are great, and the instrumental work as a whole continues to blow me away, and I like LaBrie with a calmer voice, he's not the Mariah Carey of IAW, and not the James Hetfield of Awake(sorry, just had to make those comparisons..hehe) You Not Me got a D- from me then, Although I like it more now, I still give it a C-, because it is one i will skip sometimes, it's decent, just not the DT sound i really like...Peruvian Skies got a B- and now gets a B, I like the lyrics, and I also really appreciate Petrucci on this one, he carries this song... Hollowed Years first got a B+, and now gets an A- from me, I like the lyrics, and I like the subtlety of the tune...it's not their best song, but I really like the chord progressions in it.... Just Let Me Breath at first got a B- from me, now gets an A, the groove is magnificent, and the lyrics are wonderful. Petrucci does some good work, and I think that this song could have been their break thru song, more than Hollowed Years. Anna Lee finally got thru to me, though at first I'd give it an F, I now give it a C+, i still tend to skip it, but sometimes I feel like listening to the guys pour their hearts out, there is some nice feeling in it... Burning My Soul at first got a B from me, now it gets a C...It's the only song I'm really tired of, the only one that I liked less with repetition, although I liked the intro, the song as a whole felt repetitive, the lyrics did not impress me, and it just falls flat now...Hells Kitchen starts the finest hour or so of DT i've ever heard. I love the work both Sherinian and Petrucci do here, they interact well, and they get a nice feel thru the whole thing. before, A, now A+. Lines in the Sand has grown on me, and that seems hard to believe, since I loved it from the start, Portnoy and Myung lay some phenomenal rhythms, and this is probably the most "groovin" DT song i've ever heard...the lyrics are excellent, and Petrucci gets a really fine solo in there....their masterpiece as far as I'm concerned...before A+, now A+++++++++++++++++ Take Away My Pain tears me up now, the heart and soul that went into this song are felt throughout, and I love it. The lyrics are very touching, and Petrucci puts in some wonderful fills and does a fine solo...This is another one where the chord progression catches me, and the melody as a whole is really nice...while before, on an incomplete listen, it got a D from me, I now give it an A...Trial of Tears, my second fav on the album, has so much atmosphere I feel like I'm experiencing everything in it. I really love the song, from the solos, to all that Derek does in it. I really like LaBrie's singing in it as well, he does a fine job....before, A, now, A++++ now, overall, the album is my most ever listened to album, I place it above IAW for a few reasons, #1, LaBrie has matured a lot in his singing, he's much more subtle now. #2, Myung is so much more audible in the mix, this very talented bassist is often underheard in the albums. #3 is I really love how Petrucci has developed, he's gotten very singular in his style, not worrying about speed as much as feel and tastefulness....He used to leave me cold sometimes, but not anymore... My biggest problem with the album continues to be the lack of a lot of drum solos, although i really like Portnoy throughout the album...He also plays with a fine groove, and I think it's some of his most controlled, yet free, playing....sorry for rambling so much, but all this is a lot of stuff i've never been able to say before cuz nobody else i know likes DT.... -- Geaux Tigers!!!! http://www.angelfire.com/la/qryche/index.html "I Know If I Try, I'll Get Where I'm Going/ Keeping My Eyes On the Sky" -"Some People Fly" by Queensryche

I'm pissed off about the Empty Tremor mail list by my self. But it has NOTHING to do wih the band. They are INNOCENT.

They have only send ONE messaged to some Prog fans (about 150-200) to present the Fan Clun Site.

Now some of these prog fans would like to send a message to the band but instead of using their email address, they just reply to the whole list. This sucks and I just hope that they have now learned how to send an email.

I'm reading enthusiastically all the replies (I mean ALL of them) to my huge posts about FII. I don't know about all of you, but I have REALLY looked forward to today's Jams. Not because I wanted to read something that I started, but because I was totally wired on finding out what people THOUGHT of the ideas.

I must say I was stunned by the response to Hollow Years. To me, a song has to have value of its own merit and it seemed like this song's main merit had been financial. I heard it, thought it was better than your runamuck Mariah Carey song, but it was just "too VH-1". However I'm going to think a little differently about it the next time I listen to it, based on what people like Chris Merlo and Kevin Loechner, and others, had posted. Like Rush said with the entire Moving Pictures album, it's all about "perspective". The idea that the song might have real value as it sits, with no meta-market considerations, intrigues and challenges me.

As for most other opinions, even those diametrically opposite mine, I applaud your reasoning behind them and that has been the true value of the posts. This is the most fun I've had in a while, and it's gonna be a couple days before my next shipment of blanks (had to change suppliers, news on my web page in a week), so I'm gonna post some more if that's cool with everyone. Let me know if I annoy.

Now playing: Rammstein "Sehnsucht". "DU HAST! DU HAST MICH!!!" This is the coolest German metal CD I've EVER heard.

does anybody out there like the band Tiles? Well here's your chance to get a promo copy of their last album 'Clear The Fence' for free - nullo - zilch. First come, first served and European jammers preferred (to keep the postal costs down). Just drop me an e-mail.

The double bass thingy - I know for certain that Keith 'Madman' Moon (RIP) was using double bass back in 1970. Also the man responsible for the name Led Zeppelin.

The aging of 'Falling Into Infinity' - I had very mixed feelings about it when it first came out, and I still do, even about the 'edited' copy I burned for myself (no 'Anna Lee', 'Take Away My Pain' etc.). To be honest, I don't think I've played it once in the last 6 weeks, whereas 'Awake' has been getting it's usual heavy rotation.

Somebody recently wrote something about Opeth, saying they were the biggest selling artist with Century Media. Almost certainly wrong - don't forget that The Gathering and Tiamat are also with Century Media.

    Releases to look forward to:

Therion - Vovin (4th May. Better than 'Theli' - I've got a promo copy) Theatre Of Tragedy - Aegis (11th May) Elend - The Umbersun (?)

stay safe and happy listening Neil Gallop (nga@software-ag.de) Currently playing: Liv Kristine - Deus Ex Machina
