I'm almost possitive that Neil Peart uses an electronic metronome of
some sort in concert for some songs. Only a few that he probably has so
many effects to accomplish in that he probably can't do it without it.
This could be a Click Track or something similar, but as far as I know
and from what Portnoy said in the clinic, a Click Track is something
similar to an electronic Metronome, but more sophisticated. What ever
the case may be, I found the clinic to be very imformative and I
personally learned and was inspired quite a bit. He's an AWESOME
teacher, but then that's probably because he knows the material so well!

Are you saying that a progressive metal singer is supposed to stay in the
lower registers? How is that progressive? The lack of vocal showmanship
on FII is the main reason why it can't touch Awake or I&W. Put Voices and
LTL up against anything on FII, anyday. On top of that, the vocal lines
like the beginning of New Millenium and the verses to You Not Me are
lifeless, and belong on a grunge album. FII has it's impressive points,
and I listen to it all the time, but vocally, FII leaves me wanting more.
That's when I throw on Awake, or I&W.

ok, this is how my music teacher explained it to me when we were recording
in his studio: a click track is basically where you sequence the basic
drumline of the song (sans fills or anything fancy, just the basic 'beat')
and use that as a metronome. Dunno if portnoy uses the term differently or
whatever, but that's how we used it. moo.

guys, a click track, is simply that... a metronome click fed through
monitor speakers... Not complicated... you can do it with a simple
drum machine. I use my QS6 synth for a click track when I record... I
just sequence the tempo, time sig, etc. and there you have it... just a
timekeeper fed through a monitor system is all, nothing fancy... I
don't see a use much more than headaches for playing live, but very
important(IMHO) when recording and practicing...

Didnt mike himself state that the 2nd Liquid tension experiment could only have the same lineup as the first because that was what LTE was?

are you sure? if ACOS had ended up on i&w, it would have knocked off 2-4 songs from the CD... What would I&W be without surrounded or ttt? wait, i'm not sure how long I&W is. the CDs right across the room, but i'm too lazy to go check. if i&w isn't the usual DT 78 minutes, like for example if it were to be, oh, 54 minutes, then you could probably fit ACOS on there too. Moo.

I agree that the comparisons are meek, being they are all totally different guitarists. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I don't see how you could compare even Neil Peart to Mike Portnoy for example. Yeah, there both stand-out drummers in R&R. Progressive R&R, which brings them even closer in comparison, but Mike learned a lot of techniques from Neil and Terry and god knows who else. He's had a whole different set of influences and circumstances to help develop his style, so it's hard to compare the two.

Hey all... Couple of things...
1. Lie Single: Does ANYONE know where I can get this. I have tried more times than I can count (well not really) to find this damn CD. I tried special order and the company that I wanted to go through went under about 2 weeks after I ordered it through Strawberries (the local record store). I tried Circuit City, no luck. Does anyone know where I can get this, or does someone have a spare copy that they wouldn't mind selling to me?
